    I like the Barracuda, but i'm surely biased because i love the old 1016. People despise 'clomages' and oftentimes correctly, but i believe that long discontinued watches (or references, in this case) shouldn't be treated like that since the real ones are essentially unobtainable today anyway.

    Great vid. I like your approach comparing them on their own merits vs any sort of point system like some reviewers do. I do really like the patina of the WMT. Not sure I'd buy it as my only Explorer homage though, at least not that version. The Smiths is great as well. I like the Islander, esp if you prefer an 'inspired by' approach rather than a strong homage. I bought an 36mm Alpha for cheap and... it was OK, but just feels relatively cheap. It's fine on wrist but when handling it, it is pretty subpar. No Miyota stutter on mine. Then I got a Tisell a while back. I went for the 39mm. They are creeping up in price. Mine was $225 when I bought it. Some may say it is too derivative but it doesn't say 'Rolex' so I prefer to think of it as a very close homage. Great bracelet and clasp as well though I usually wear it on a grey vintage leather strap. It's a top five watch for me. Maybe top three.

    I love the explorer and one day I will own one. My personal favorites that are in my collection that fit in the place of the explorer are the Tudor BB36 mines in blue but the black version would probably be a better explorer alternative. The Lorier Falcon I have the gen 2 but the new Gen 3 is good alternative. And out of left field is my Sinn 556. It can go anywhere and do anything, wonderful quality and impressive specs, 200m, high and low pressure resistant, and anti magnetic. The bracelet even comes with a dive extension even though its not a diver. But there's tons of options because the explorer is a legend and is probably favorite Rolex model.

    • @igorz.3972

      Which Sinn would you recommend 556i or 556a ?

    • @jmount411
      @jmount411 Год назад +1

      @@igorz.3972 I currently own the Sinn 556 A RS and I've also owned the Sinn 556IB blue dial with applied markers which I regret selling. Even though they are the same watch having both didn't seem repetitive because they looked so different. I sold the 556IB because I just got the Tudor BB36 in blue as well as a Lorier Falcon 2 in blue and I didn't want 3 similar watches but now that I have the BB36 in blue and it is a gorgeous watch I think the Sinn 556IB really did give it a run for it's money. The specs are better. The brushed finish with that dial and fine link bracelet had amazing light play. I personally think its better looking than the Oyster Perpetual as well. The Sinn 556A RS is like my "explorerish" watch that I take with me on my weekend outdoor/vacation stuff. Regular people don't know what it is so I don't have a chance of getting stalked and robbed over having a nice watch on and it's up to any task. The 556 can literally go anywhere do anything the bracelet even has a dive extension. If you want a more dressy watch I'd get the one with applied indices and a wicked dial. If you want a under the radar rock solid tool watch get the Regular 556A or 556I. I liked the 556A RS because I like 3,6,9 dials because it's easy to tell the time at a very quick glance and in the dark due to it having more lume. The red seconds hand throws in just a pop of color.

      I have a San Martin Explorer homage and have an Islander Manhasset on the way. I think the San Martin is too much of a direct copy of the Rolex. I also barely wear mine because it’s 40mm, not the size i’d like. Personally after having multiple San Martins and Islanders, I prefer Islander. Imo the only thing San Martin does better is their beautiful case finishing.
