As the drummer forced to be the sound tech/engineer it's like you read my mind. Got me up and running in a minutes instead of days, answered all my questions. Pure gold. Thanks a million for this superb little walkthru.
Seriously appreciate the feedback, thank you! If you have any more questions, it would be great to have you in my Facebook group where I am active every day to answer people's questions: bit.ly/MPEgroup
FYI for anyone wondering about the 'input' on the track - on my version of Reaper it doesn't show until you click on the red button with the white circle to the left. This "arms" the track and then brings up the dropdown to click on (input: mono, input: stereo, input: MIDI, input: none).
This is exactly what i need in a tutorial. I am a complete beginner to recording. Thanks for breaking it down into an easily understandable way. Great job. Thanks again
Thank you so much for the lovely comment, really appreciate it! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with, my contact links are in the description.
I am moving into making music on Windows and Reaper from GarageBand, and honestly was nervous about "starting over" - thanks for assuaging those fears with a simple and straightforward tutorial! Subscribed.
Thanks, man. My recording journey has begun before I turn 50, and you have helped with it. Don't worry about your guitar skills - we all criticize ourselves in that area... such an easy-to-learn instrument, and yet so hard to master.
Thank you for the simple and concise video that is truly directed to the beginner. There are way to many videographers out there that remind me of my math teacher. To them it's easy, so they just rush through figuring that you understand a lot of what's being taught already. I don't, that's the definition of a beginner! Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!
I really wanted to record my guitar playing and I always thought it would be hard to do but watching this video helped a lot and it seems easy. Thank you so much subscribed and liked your helpful video.
Great tutorial thank you. I only recently connected my piano to my PC just for fun, so this is a whole new world. You are the first person I have seen to talk to me at the right level (simply) so things can only get better.
i recorded my guitar, electric guitar everything sounds quiet, flat and warm even though i rendered it to stereo mp3 it still sounds like mono what am i doing wrong? thanks
So awesome 👍 Thank you. I have finally placed an order for the Indian version of the cheapest audio interface available on the planet, the Teyun q12. In our India, it is called SRK something something. So, in preparation for it's arrival I'm watching your tutorial and I feel it has armed with with enough to make the first few trials real fun in a meaningful manner 😃so, thanks. Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄
knowing things and teaching things are very different things and you my friend has just done it really well with this video and just earned yourself a Sub ;) will definately be following your video dude , keep up the good work.
Thank u very much! I was looking two days for software to record. I've struggled thru Ableton, Protools First -what a daunting experience it was. But I heard about Reaper, clicked on this n' was recording within minutes! Blessings Mate!
You only skipped over half of what I needed to learn to hook up to Reaper. Not one single thing you did worked or looked any where near the same on my reaper. Thanks for nothing
Have just downloaded a copy of Reaper, as I've heard good things about it.This is a very good introduction to first steps in recording with it, and is just what I needed. Thanks :)
Really appreciate the feedback, Colin! Thank you. Get in touch if there is anything else I can help with, I’m active inside my Facebook group every day to answer questions, it would be great to have you in there: bit.ly/MPEgroup
Im lost. It doesn't even pickup any sound in the daw. However whenever when i play guitar i see the green on the scarlet 2i4 that sound does get in. It also plays music over my speakers. Just not any guitar sound i play... i updated the 2i4 drivers, redownloaded etc. Nothing. It's also setup as my audio device in Reaper. But same result on Amplitube 4. Even says no device connected...
I have a umc202hd and i plug it in but it doesn't appear in the audio device tab, also when I arm a trach it seems to be picking up sound from the mic but if i record it records nothing???
Help! I'm recording vocals, and everything went well. Suddenly i can't save my recorded item anymore. I record, and then have to click save or delete or rename. I click on save. Then the recording is gone and leaves an empty item. How can i fix this? I recorded 3 items in 1 track. First 2 went well, but then the probem occurred. Please help me.
while editing in REAPER i couldnt upload the video that i had transferred from the computer via bluetooth. the file is missing. it displayed “offline”. even the song from phone to computer too. anyone can help out?
Good Evening. I have been facing the following problem for a few days now. For the recordings of the guitar I use the Reaper but the sound is heard only from one monitor, ie track and guitar as I play from a speaker. The paradox is that on RUclips or any other media player both monitors are heard only when I open Reaper it becomes monophonic. Obviously he wants some adjustment, I have searched, I have broken my head but I have not found anything. I use an audio interface the Behringer umc 204HD and the driver I downloaded for this particular card was the Behringer 4.59, does he want another driver? Anyone who knows something please welcome help. Thank you!
how come i am only getting clean tone? I DL a VST plugin and cant do anything with it. tse audio is the plug in, but i cant get distortion or even adjust volume other then through my scarlett .
Thanks you! Your instruction are clear and concise. Since I want to use this to record an audio book I think this video has shown me that this software seems perfect for my requirements.
for some reason when I play a note on my guitar i first hear the sound of the note coming out of the guitar like if it was unplugged, and barely after I hear it on the speakers. Does anyone know how to fix it?
I’m having trouble. I am using a neural dsp plug in for guitar but all that gets recording is a flat non crunchy guitar sound. I went to insert track->virtual instrument and added the plug in but it doesn’t catch the sound
Why when I record on the 2nd track guitar, first track is the drums. I can't see the guitar on the track and the drums record not the guitar on 2nd track.

Thanks a bunch for your tutorial. I've shunned programs like Cubase, ProTools, etc for years since there are tons of stuff to get familiar with before you can even start recording. Well, I'll be downloading Reaper and give it a try. Thanks again!
if you havent figured it out yet: you have to toggle the track to record by clicking the red button with a circle in it on the track itself (record arm/disarm button)
Some one please help everything disappeared except for the play pause record bottom and the tool bar I would like everything back to the way reaper came I tried reinstalling it but it came back the same I am stressed out please help
Hi mate I'm using a Zoom R16 for my audio interface but it's now not talking to my Reaper software. I can't assign tracks and I'm not even getting a mic signal. I have been recording fine getting amazing results and now it's not working. Can u please help? I've even updated to latest version that was worse so reverted back. When I did it before I recorded and assigned track 1 for bass, electric guitar and track 5 for mic for vocals and recording guitar with my rhkde mic. Now the drop down menu when clicking for assigning tracks is not there. Your help would greatly appreciated. Steven
So... you disarmed the guitar track before you recorded your voice. Is that how you were able to hear what you played while you recorded your voice? That's my current issue; hearing what I just played so that I may layer on a separate track.
Hi John, thanks for uploading the video. It really helped me get started on Reaper. I was wondering if you have created more videos on how to use the other options within this DAW. Would like to get an indepth perspective on it.
I’m glad this was helpful! I haven’t got any further Reaper resources yet, but I will certainly post here on the channel when I do. What would you like to learn?
Hi can you help. Its fine when i record the guitar using line pod go. But when i play the recorded track the sounds is stutter or latency i dont know it pauses.
being a novice i am thinking of trying reaper after using Mixcraft but i can not believe you had to download effects for the guitar. Mixcraft has effects already installed in the software
Hello Mr Holt… I enjoyed your reaper tutorial. ….. Would you have any experience with thunderbolt connections… I had a new machine built with thunderbolt three and four input connectors ,in the back….. My focusrite clarett is fairly old (2015) and clearly has a thunderbolt one and two output…. I downloaded thunderbolt three and four drivers for this new machine….. I cannot get any channel input on the meter…. Do you suppose I need to erase the drivers for three and four and download ones for one and two ?….thanks for your time, Pete K.
Thanks for this, the problem is when i record the vocal and guitar at the same time, the sound of input 1 absorbed the input 2 How to set it separate the input sound of each instruments? Anyone can help me?? Thanks in advance
