Is there any DAW that doesn't need a subscription

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад

@@Roses_R_redeR do you mean needing to sing up and register? Or do you mean a monthly subscription fee? Most do not have a monthly subscription fee. Pro Tools is the only that I can think of where people think that it is subscription based but you can actually buy a licence for it and avoid the subscription.
If you mean a DAW where you don’t have to sign up and register. Audacity and LMMS might be the only ones. If you’re on a Mac or have an iPhone or iPad you can use GarageBand. It’s built in and doesn’t require you to register it.

@@AudioTechTV yes I mean the fee the $200 a month or more for reason but I'm really considering reaper now . You know with the times being as crazy as they are... and I've got a bunch of kids and I'm not made of money..

Hello. Ableton Live Lite user here. I know I'm late to the party, looking at some of the comments dates, but I had to comment on Reaper. Ableton has been crashing, a lot, so I've been on the look out for something else. First of all, Reaper is fast, really fast. I had an old home built PC with 6g of memory and that's the reason for Ableton crashing. Reaper just go's and go's and go's, with zero crashing. I'm hooked. Thanks to Zane and That Metal Head over at SpectreSoundStudios. You guys rock.

If you haven’t installed the Asio driver for your audio interface or if your audio interface doesn’t have an Asio driver then you can use a different driver type or use Asio4all which is an emulated Asio driver.
Visit the manufacturers website for your audio interface to see if they have an Asio driver that you can install. It will not be the default driver that installs when you first connect it. Asio drivers need to be manually installed.

Great video Zane. having to double-click to drop a midi note in the piano roll is kinda excessive though. I wonder why single clicking wasn't enough. ? for audio tech tv (btw thanks for this awesome tutorial as I just downloaded it) When I talk or record (keep in mind I did not set up my interface while recording to test so not sure if that makes a difference, as I just plugged in my midi keyboard ) but when I played back recordings I could hear this annoying echo and screetching sound throughout and just poor quality throughout. (I just talked into my audio speakers with no mic or anything) I am not sure how or what to adjust in setting to get ride of that.
Also when I plugged in my midi and pulled up my synth in virtual instruments it was set at default and could only use basic boring default sounds (no matter what synth I picked) and the default sounds sounded strong but when I adjusted it to special synthesizers it stayed at default, so I had to pull up hybrid3 (the plug -in) separately outside of adding a virtual instrument to get the sound into reaper recording and when I played it back, it sounded very low and horrible, so not sure what is up with that or how I can get specific synths sounds (and not the default piano sound) in repear to sound like they do when playing them (strong and magnetic) Besides default there is only one or 2 other things to change it to and that did not seem to make a difference.
Lastly, if I have 3 tracks and I only want to listen to track 2 and mute 1 and 3, something is still not working right and I normally cannot hear sound on any of them and can only hear the really bad sound when I unmute all of them.
Please keep in mind I am a super beginner and I do have a scarlett 2i2 but I do not know if that would make a difference or not with the issues I described above if I set up the interface with it
Any insight you could share would be great. Thank you so much again for answering my ?s and your tutorials are by far the best.

For some reason I am having issues scrolling in/close up for a track. I cannot figure it out. I created an envelope underneath the track and I cannot zoom in on my mouse despite using the Z command and googling it. Any suggestions on how to zoom in and did you ever do a video on creating an envelope to adjust the volume for a track? Thanks

They usually recommend -18DB maximum for recording anything.
Some recommend -12DB though as well.
That is with the volume fader at its default position.

Im about to buy StudioOne for 80, but wanted to checkout Reaper first. Have you tried both and if so which one has better flow for you?

I haven’t really got too deep into Studio One. But I used to use Reaper quite a bit. So it’s kind of an unfair comparison from me just because I know Reaper better. But Studio one seems to be really nice. I like the single page workflow and I can see that it’s really geared toward a speedy workflow.

Thanks for your demo, you did exactly what I had tried on my own. Looks so simple and reasonable, but in reality it is not.
I am not understanding why MY setup (simple piano VST with MIDI, ASIO4All) is not working:
my VSTs work fine in standalone mode or in players like Falcon,Kontakt etc.. In order to record the audio I need to use a DAW, e.g. these Reaper tracks. All MIDI settings are correct, yet NONE of my VSTs produces sound in Reaper when playing on the keyboard (i.e. they do not 'see' the MIDI signals). When playing on the virtual keyboard of the VST (some have that feature) inside Reaper, audio output of the VST IS reaching the Reaper track. Clearly it is the MIDI part that is not working. Somehow it is 'stolen' by Reaper and not sensed by the VST window inside this DAW. Reaper seems to not handle my MIDI channels, despite MIDI being enabled in the settings as you show,.
I hoped to see how to correctly set it up, but in your case it simply works, in my case it simply doesn't. That's why I came here.
How to debug this mess, why is it so difficult to do such a basic thing, i.e. record a VST instrument? Very vew VSTs offer a built-in recorder, sadly, so a DAW is needed. I do have an older Cubase , but it does not even see my newer VSTs, while Reaper picks all of them up nicely during installation. I am stuck.
    Thanks!

good video, very informative. I'm using Mt Power Drumkit2 plug in for E-drums, I managed to make it work, however, since the Reaper is controlling my drum module and sound card , I'm struggling to play Yt along the Drumkit2 plug in.Normally I would use input to plug any other music source device but currently I'm using laptop output for headphones so YT seems like a good music source to play along.
How to make it both work=plug in and YT as it's either way at the moment?
