Is there any DAW that doesn't need a subscription

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад

@@Roses_R_redeR do you mean needing to sing up and register? Or do you mean a monthly subscription fee? Most do not have a monthly subscription fee. Pro Tools is the only that I can think of where people think that it is subscription based but you can actually buy a licence for it and avoid the subscription.
If you mean a DAW where you don’t have to sign up and register. Audacity and LMMS might be the only ones. If you’re on a Mac or have an iPhone or iPad you can use GarageBand. It’s built in and doesn’t require you to register it.

@@user-pl3sk1es3o Ya 4 sure....it's amazing especially for me who has almost no DAW or recording experience. I was recording drum and guitar tracks in a couple of hours after buying it (watched a few youtube videos). I downloaded stephen slate drums 5 for free and imported drums to put with my guitar. I was in the same boat as you and I did some research and from what I have been told Reaper is the easiest to learn and use.

Hello. Ableton Live Lite user here. I know I'm late to the party, looking at some of the comments dates, but I had to comment on Reaper. Ableton has been crashing, a lot, so I've been on the look out for something else. First of all, Reaper is fast, really fast. I had an old home built PC with 6g of memory and that's the reason for Ableton crashing. Reaper just go's and go's and go's, with zero crashing. I'm hooked. Thanks to Zane and That Metal Head over at SpectreSoundStudios. You guys rock.

? for audio tech tv (btw thanks for this awesome tutorial as I just downloaded it) When I talk or record (keep in mind I did not set up my interface while recording to test so not sure if that makes a difference, as I just plugged in my midi keyboard ) but when I played back recordings I could hear this annoying echo and screetching sound throughout and just poor quality throughout. (I just talked into my audio speakers with no mic or anything) I am not sure how or what to adjust in setting to get ride of that.
Also when I plugged in my midi and pulled up my synth in virtual instruments it was set at default and could only use basic boring default sounds (no matter what synth I picked) and the default sounds sounded strong but when I adjusted it to special synthesizers it stayed at default, so I had to pull up hybrid3 (the plug -in) separately outside of adding a virtual instrument to get the sound into reaper recording and when I played it back, it sounded very low and horrible, so not sure what is up with that or how I can get specific synths sounds (and not the default piano sound) in repear to sound like they do when playing them (strong and magnetic) Besides default there is only one or 2 other things to change it to and that did not seem to make a difference.
Lastly, if I have 3 tracks and I only want to listen to track 2 and mute 1 and 3, something is still not working right and I normally cannot hear sound on any of them and can only hear the really bad sound when I unmute all of them.
Please keep in mind I am a super beginner and I do have a scarlett 2i2 but I do not know if that would make a difference or not with the issues I described above if I set up the interface with it
Any insight you could share would be great. Thank you so much again for answering my ?s and your tutorials are by far the best.

I'll probably stick with cakewalk since I don't see any step sequencer that's as simple to use as that one. Though I'll definitely be recording my microphone audio elsewhere cause for some reason Cakewalk chipmunks my voice.

You rendered a sequence with muted tracks, would this stop those tracks being included> not clear from result.. Good stuff anyway....

Any tracks that are muted will not be included in the rendered audio.

@@AudioTechTV thanks for prompt reply. I am loving Reaper, after years with Protools. I have an Akai MPK49 which keeps losing midi control even though enabled. Have to restart Win 10 to get it back. Thanks for your great tutorials.

I find that turning OFF the Record Monitoring for electric, I have better results, otherwise there’s a strange phasing sound that is incredibly annoying.

I hope you can help me with this problem. I have downloaded instruments like VSTi DSK The Grand Piano for example. This one and all others give me this message '' Cannot find any instrument''. The name of the instrument appears on the chosen track, but it is not active. What did I do wrong? By the way I like your lessons, you are easy to understand and I am a subscriber. 🎸🎷🎹

Thanks for your demo, you did exactly what I had tried on my own. Looks so simple and reasonable, but in reality it is not.
I am not understanding why MY setup (simple piano VST with MIDI, ASIO4All) is not working:
my VSTs work fine in standalone mode or in players like Falcon,Kontakt etc.. In order to record the audio I need to use a DAW, e.g. these Reaper tracks. All MIDI settings are correct, yet NONE of my VSTs produces sound in Reaper when playing on the keyboard (i.e. they do not 'see' the MIDI signals). When playing on the virtual keyboard of the VST (some have that feature) inside Reaper, audio output of the VST IS reaching the Reaper track. Clearly it is the MIDI part that is not working. Somehow it is 'stolen' by Reaper and not sensed by the VST window inside this DAW. Reaper seems to not handle my MIDI channels, despite MIDI being enabled in the settings as you show,.
I hoped to see how to correctly set it up, but in your case it simply works, in my case it simply doesn't. That's why I came here.
How to debug this mess, why is it so difficult to do such a basic thing, i.e. record a VST instrument? Very vew VSTs offer a built-in recorder, sadly, so a DAW is needed. I do have an older Cubase , but it does not even see my newer VSTs, while Reaper picks all of them up nicely during installation. I am stuck.
    Thanks!
