      They are not my friends. Just randoms on a normal match-made Onslaught run. Nobody was on a Well of Radiance so I’m not sure why they felt the need to put themselves in bad positions.

    • @TLHGONZO
      @TLHGONZO  7 месяцев назад +6

      I understand that but I don’t think our issue was a lack of damage but lack of defense. In the absence of a WoR, there’s nowhere to safely dump all of your damage on the boss without getting shredded by the surrounding adds. Also, it’s boring to run the same meta BS every time.

      @@TLHGONZO That first thing is the host's problem, should've checked for well or a warlock
      Second, the meta makes things easier and faster, idk about you but doing things fast and easy sounds good to me. I think most people would not find it fun to take more time in clearing something with the added factor of not running a good loadout

    • @TLHGONZO
      @TLHGONZO  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@daveadams8712 - 1. This was a normal run, not Legend. There’s no “host” because it was a match-made activity. 2. Grand Overture w/Mask of Bakris on a Machine Gun surge is pretty “meta.” 3. I can’t speak for other people but I would rather do something slowly and enjoy the activity than to run the meta over and over just to speed run an activity.
      I enjoy Onslaugt. I think it’s a fun activity. I don’t view it as a chore that I need to get through as quickly as possible to get loot. The activity itself is the reward. The loot is the cherry on top. I have amazing rolls of all of the Brave weapons but I keep playing Onslaught because I genuinely like it. That’s just me, though. You do you.

    If you are queueing with randos you can't *expect* them to be competent. He can run whatever he wants, esp if he is the one clutching it out. Author also said he wasn't trying for the meta loadout, he was trying something fun.
    With that said, for those trying to get the best loadout possible, his loadout was def missing something, namely add clear in an activity where the three bigest things you need are survivability, add clear, and major clear, in that order. Grand Overture is for majors/bosses, and stasis can help with survivability/add clear, but doesn't handle it fully on its own due to cooldowns and lack of healing/dr, so you need something else to bridge the gap, which is missing. If he was running Forbearance instead of the glaive, that would help cover the gap, although the glaive isn't really the weakest point, which I would give to the pulse rifle. Personally if I were to change only one aspect of his build, I would exchange the pulse for a headstone or kinetic tremors autorifle. Still handles overload (although the amount of slow that stasis hunters have in their kit should handle it anyways), range should still be good enough, but much easier to get headshot final blows for headstone due to decreased recoil, and much easier to spray down a bunch of adds at once. Just my thoughts though.

    • @TLHGONZO
      @TLHGONZO  7 месяцев назад

      For sure. There’s a reason I was running the weapons that I was, however, but it’s a personal dumb reason that I won’t bore you with. I will say that I’ve never had any trouble clearing out adds. The glaive melee took care of that very easily. It also deals with orange bars very effectively. I’m not arguing that it’s the best thing a person can run but “best” is subjective. I always pull my own weight and very rarely die so I know what I’m doing. With that being said, you have a good take and it’s good advice people can take.

    • @hydraslayer8469
      @hydraslayer8469 7 месяцев назад

      @@TLHGONZO I would have thought that the melee from the glaive wouldn't work very well for add clear due to 1) needing to get in close which can be dangerous, and 2) still needing at least one melee per kill, but I gave up on glaives pretty soon after they released, so you would know better than me XD. Not surprised it works well for majors though, I just never figured out how to survive trying it XD.
      As for how to reason through how to improve a loadout, I have a friend who is on the autism spectrum who I try to help with Destiny 2, so I pay attention for videos which explain how to improve. Credit for the nuggets in here goes to a youtuber named Pit of Heresy Enjoyer who did a weapons masterclass video I thought was excellent. I agree that "best" is subjective, although more often than not you can say "better" if you are talking about hardest of the hard content like speedruns, lowmans, solo flawlesses, etc, respective to the given activity type, which is based off how Aegis ranks stuff for his videos (he is a speedrunner, but his vids are great for any time you are at the limits of your capacity). Both of those youtubers will give you much better advice than some random youtube commentor for those trying to improve XD
      Thanks for the vid and the comment!

      @@hydraslayer8469 - I appreciate the advice and the thoughtful response. I will say that I’m very well versed in the meta and meta builds. But I tend not to run them often because I don’t find their gameplay loop particularly fun or interesting on average. I like to use builds and/or weapons that people seldom use and I take pride in succeeding with them, oftentimes surpassing those using “meta” builds.
      Two things to keep in mind: 1. The survivability of glaives rests in knowing when to guard, who to fight with the melee attack, and when to use the ranged attack. It helps to supplement it with other survivability tools (in my case, Recuperation, the DR from Whisper of Chains, and the blink escape provided by Mask of Bakris). 2. This was a normal run (not Legend) with a Glaive and MG surge, thus increasing the potency of the glaive’s ranged attack which-coupled with Bakris-made very quick work of orange bar enemies. Thanks for watching!

    Glaives if anything are too strong at this point. People just refuse to use them for some reason. I've probably single handedly saved a dozen onslaught runs exactly like you just did by either buying time or maneuvering to grab a rez and bodyblock the wave of projectiles coming for the guy trapped in animation. If you've got a team full of killers there may be better choices for burst or sustained dps but in a group with players of unknown skill the 10% loss in personal damage potential is more than made up for by your ability to stand toe to toe with that Kridis lookalike final boss or a wave 49 tormentor spawn when the rest of your team insists on only running explosive type weapons.
    Keep glaiving.

    • @TLHGONZO
      @TLHGONZO  7 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly! DPS is not everything! People forget that not every encounter in this game entails you standing in a WoR damaging a boss. What’s the point of all of that DPS if you won’t make it to the boss!? Survivability is also important and in a matchmade activity with people of unknown skill and abilities, I bring survivability in addition to good damage.

    How are they so mad about that glaive usage? You're using a glaive at its best potential! Strong defence with a bit of offense! The whole loadout was playing some solid synergies here. If anything, why is that fella seemingly using a sunshot and still struggling with enemies on a normal mode onslaught? AS A WARLOCK TOO! Well or no Well super, warlocks got amazing crowd control potential and he ain't doing shit?

      The fallen suck, they are faster, and the invis marauders are a PITA. Also, brigs are hard to deal with. Most people find Hive significantly easier than Fallen if they are going for 50 waves. Not sure why you would do that with randos rather than LFGs though, you are going to have more variation in randos than you get with Hive vs Fallen anyways.
