I picked up D1 when I was 12 near the end of year 1. This is the game that got me into gaming, and just watching this video reminded me of so many fond memories. It was truly an experience to play D1 in its prime.
I started playing after Taken King and before Rise of Iron. What an exceptional time to join the community. There was so much content, and the stories and quests were phenomenal. I could spend all day exploring Venus and Mars, especially the areas underground.
"Some people getting motion sick from the tight fov and 30fps" as a gamer who played the crap out of Halo 1-Reach back in the day, I almost choked on my coffee

I just got into Destiny 2 a few weeks ago after not having played Destiny 1 in several years. I actually had no idea D1 was still live AND active. Those days of the original Destiny release were so hype and I’m glad people are still able to go back and experience D1.
I've been playing somewhat consistently since the D1 beta. I think D1 was amazing for the time. I actually think I have more hours in that game than the 2nd, and I've played a lot of D2... However I do think D2 is the better game. Destiny 1 can't be matched in the context of when the game came out. But live service and power fantasy wise, D2 improved on every aspect of the first game. Like you said though, the original game has its own identity. The somewhat mysterious gritty tone, slower paced tight gameplay & the unknown potential what the game could be someday helped D1 make its mark. It's a very good game still to this day and I highly recommend playing if you haven't.
@@V3RAC1TY Only your first point is valid. For 1, what you consider to be p2w can be different for the next person. For 2, It's mostly a psychological thing, unless you play the game at a serious level, since there will always be a bunch of people better than you are, pay to win/progress faster or not. For 3, I play Destiny 2 very casually and don't even know what the pay2win is supposed to look like, nor do I care since I'm still playing through the campaigns, which I'm having fun with. I have no idea how that would affect me which already tells me it's either a psychological thing or something you might experience later in the game. Maybe in the future I'll be able to actually be affected by the game allegedly being p2w, we'll see.
Never played Destiny 2 but I remember playing Destiny 1 and the alpha version of the game on Xbox. The community and gameplay was ridiculously good. I really felt immersed in this game, it was a great experience during High School.
I have the fondest memories in my whole gaming career in this game. I wish I could go back and relive them but none of my friends want to go back since they think D2 is better in every way but I’m still stuck on this game for it’s atmosphere, art direction and my ice breaker
+ Destiny 1 is more rewarding to the player. + It felt less of a grind despite it being a big grind (Weird I know). + Art direction, honestly I think they did a better job with D1 I like the style they've got. It's aged very well. + Music/Sound I think that is another aspect which D1 has clearly done better than D2. + Level design and the world itself, the places within D1 felt more atmospheric partly due to the above point. We've not had better PVP maps with D2 and to back up my argument, they're bringing back all the old strikes, raids and world spaces from D1 for a reason. + Kinda going back to the rewarding aspect, the guns that we got were amazing most of them. Whilst with D2 they dumbed them down and catered too much for balancing reasons. The PVP is partly to fault with them trying to make what should be a casual fun PVP game into a sweaty E-Sport wannabe. + Destiny 1 PVP was and still is better, maybe for people who enjoy a sweat you'll prefer D2. What made PVP on D1 successful was its approach to not take things too seriously and where it started to go South is when it catered to the people complaining about everything. Its just unfortunate that the original vision for Destiny was ruined from the get-go with Destiny 2. They did do their best to reverse the horrible double primary decision which I must state the community people within the boards and content creators are largely at fault for this. I don't think you ever see the OG D1 team make such a huge blunder like that but as we know most of them are gone and that's why the quality isn't what it use to be.
I'm gonna be that guy that dies on the hill saying Destiny 1 is better than Destiny 2.. Wish they released this on PC though, but the FOV and FPS doesn't bother me too much, least recently since I've been playing a ton of Xbox 360 so I'm used to it. Gonna re install this on PS5 today.
Bungie ain't releasing D1 on PC in fear of being out done by the mod community. Brah you know what the mudding community could do with D1? It would be grand.
D1 is my favorite game ever. I think it's tight fov and 30 fps actually enhance the game. The art style was amazing and the gunplay is leagues above D2. The raids, the strikes, the story. It's all just perfect. I wish D2 was as good, but I never felt like I was able to get into it as much as I did with D1.
I started playing Destiny since the Beta. My daughter was 2. Now I’m ready for The Final Shape, and my daughter will be starting middle school in August. So many memories and good times.
Might sound dumb but, 1 thing i miss from D1 is how the ammo looked, with no black boxes but more like translucesnt. And also the lightning as well as the day/night cycle
I've been playing Destiny 1 for so many years. I remember picking the game up officially on my Xbox 360 one week before the taken King. Down the road I got an Xbox one then I got the destiny collection on Xbox One. Then my son was old enough for him to have my Xbox account and then I started with PlayStation picked up Destiny 1 on PS3 and been playing it all the way through only a few weeks ago. In a few weeks ago I picked up the destiny 1 collection on my PS4. Yes I do have Destiny 2 I do play that a lot as well but I've always been playing Destiny 1 Faithfully
So I just watched this video and immediately realized what I had been missing in D2 for years. Some of these early D1 missions get lumped in with D2 in my mind. Its like I forgot where the first ended and the second began. But seeing this gameplay again makes me realize that everything I love about destiny existed in D1. I must go back and play haha. May the IceBreaker rule forever ;)
I just want to say that peak Destiny content was listening to you on the podcast back in the day. I’m grateful for all of your contributions to the community and to my early adulthood. It’s nice hearing from a buddy again!
I tried getting back into Destiny 1 I think about half a year ago or more from when I'm making this comment. But I specifically remember playing a Warlock main, so I wanted to go Hunter, but not buy any fast leveling. I saw plenty of players in the tower and while on patrol, but the main kicker was that almost nobody was doing any campaign objective strikes. So I was for the most part playing every single strike for every campaign in the story completely solo and lemme tell ya, it's certainly no walk in the park. Biggest roadblock was likely in the Taken King DLC with the Shield Brothers who by all means do not mess around, and the Sunless Cell plunging you head first into a horror genre. I had to develop entire strategies against these specific fights because of how much they make you realize why there's a matchmaking system because of how difficult and stress-inducing they can really be when there's only 1 player.
The cursed thralls in the sunless cell boss room are what constantly killed me. Since I was the only player, the boss would only chase me when it got enraged. Running away from him, while also trying to shoot him and dodge the thralls is so difficult by yourself.
@@Ray565. ikr. Shield brothers did massive amounts of damage by themselves, and it was especially worse with all the ads that spawn in mid-fight. I had to constantly run and jump around the middle pillar non-stop, avoiding the bosses, and managing ad killing at the same time, while hoping and praying that I didn't get shot at long enough to regen health.
@sMa-ch3wu ya I'm on PS5 and there's always people in the tower, there's also Discords for Destiny 1 that have people running strikes, campaigns and raids 👍
Still play to this date. I stopped playing around the time Destiny 2 came out, but I never actually got Rise of Iron even though all my friends did when it was still relevant. So I've been enjoying that and have been thinking of doing the Wrath of The Machine Raid eventually because we'll never know if it's going to come to Destiny 2.
I finished getting Ace of Spades in D1 a year ago and there was rumble supremacy and I just tore everyone up. This is so much more fun after all these years.
D1 i have so many memories with this game. Thanks to D1, I met so many people and did a lot of raiding. I love doing the raids ,pvp ,nightfall, and trials. With D2, tbh it's not the same anymore. D1 , play all the time D2, play sometimes
i miss doing the d1 raids. i remember trying really hard to solo crotas end on hard and only ever being able to do it once after tons of attempts. id hop on again if my ps4 didnt take a crap a few months ago. destiny 1 was really special. its been a long time now but remember the 1st time people find the alternate path in that daily heroic mission for that powerful sniper rifle? or the insane community quest to figure out how to get that insane burst rifle from the siva raid? damn what a good time that was.
As a Destiny veteran I always say this when my friends who haven't played it ask me: Destiny 1 has better visual design and weapon customization than Destiny 2.
i love d1 i still go back and play 2s when its weekly and do a few raids cause they average only 30 mins. i found out about this game before it had come out and the hype was great. the passion people had was huge. i was in school back then during the golden days of d1 so content drought never was a problem for me, id just hop on and have a good time with the boys. even after the last update the game is still fun and playable years later doing the same old missions and pvp and it got me into wanting to give d2 a try cause the new season is out. i think Activision had a different idea in mind for what destiny should be and i think it helped and also hurt the game. a lot of people quit destiny and moved on because of the various issues over the years which sucks, and i cant really say if d2 redeemed itself or not because everyones opinion is vastly different. i just like to shoot at stuff and go to different planets and actually hate spaceship missions so destiny is still the same for me. only thing i hate about d1 is the sunset for og trials and raid gear even after the end game. i think i understand why but at the same time could help thinking if we had maxed gear why not let us do a quest letting us infuse our gear that was sunset maybe giving the ol gunsmith a purpose. anyways just some late night thoughts d1 was a great game and the raids and missions felt like they mattered and getting the gear was actually really exciting and sometimes challenging.
Started playing just before TDB. I miss the D1 days, running strikes with my buddies every night or soloing nightfalls by cheesing boss encounters. I don’t know where you are at these days boys, but I miss ya.
The only problem that I've been having when I'm playing Destiny 1 is when I'm trying to load into a specific strike and I can rarely get any other players.
I know back then some people hated the content droughts we had, but I honestly liked it. It gave me a chance to play other games while they were working on the next dlc, without feeling like im missing out. Now destiny 2 is like a full time job if you want to keep up week to week
i've never played a game that made it so much fun to just hang out in tower and put a 6 man raid together. we had some great times. the guns and art were top shelf. the community made the game what it was.
Do you think it’s worth it to pick up? I jumped in on D2 very late like right before light fall and I haven’t really felt too attached to the game like I wanted to. Is multiplayer still active?
I’ve recently started playing D1 again and I enjoy it more because it’s simpler, no unnecessary gameplay baggage, and alot easier to navigate in the menus. I feel like the graphics are more genuine and less cartoon like. And the music is on another level. D2 music was good, but not quite as good. On another note, in my opinion, some of the “plot twist’s” in D2 really were just cans of worms that were opened and since what’s done is done, it’s un recoverable. Similar to how 343 messed up the halo franchise.
I've been replaying the game, and it has been a great experience- mostly. I suffer from two big problems, there are basically no players in my country, so I have to solo most strikes, which takes like 4 times the time to actually finish them, at least with the unoptimized gear that I have, and, for some reason, I am always getting kicked out of the social spaces like 10 minutes after I turn on the game. Something about peer connections or something like that, but it only happens on the ps5, I can get into social spaces just fine on Ps4
It's crazy to think that new players will never know what it was like to be "forever" lvl 29!! The ABSOLUTE GRIND to get to lvl 32 was insane. The fact you NEEDED to have 3 characters to grind to get materials to lvl up. Was it tiring absolutely but playing with friends was amazing.
I just started playing on my old Titan again initially just to have a nostalgia trip though the campaign levels with a buddy... As much as I still enjoy the core of D2, jesus did I get sucked in and I'm dashing through the game and taking advantage of Xbox's LFG system to replay all of the raids and finish DECADE old loot grinds I never got around to finishing. Eventually, I'm going to hit a content wall once I've gotten everything I've ever wanted from the old dog, but perhaps that's one of the reason's it's so refreshing compared to D2's constant state of flux that is difficult to stay on top of. The aesthetics, the music, the simplified gameplay, so much just feels like home. D2 is still a great game with lots of QoL updates that were DESPERATELY needed, but I'm shocked to find out D1 is still alive and rocking for a handful of us!
You can kind of play at 60 fps. With some new TVs (I own one) you can use the smooth motion option with game mode on, and it feels like 60fps and no input latency.
Love this video! I would LOVE to go back, but I can’t ruin that OG experience!!! Especially because as I’ve grown older, I’ve grown very adjusted to modern FOV sliders I could get by with the 30 FPS
I dipped out of Destiny 2 when they started sunsetting everything… A few days ago I installed destiny one again. I have been having a blast! I hate hate 30 FPS, but I can do it for Destiny. I have matchmaking teams on strikes. It’s been a lot of fun.
I’m actually considering picking up D1 on the PlayStation since I played D2 on PC, I’m hoping anyone on comment section can be friend and play D1 together for my first experience.
The biggest problem I have with Destiny 1 is the queque times. At first, I thought finding just 12 people out of tens, maybe hundreds, wasn't that hard, but apparently It is, it just takes forever.
Ive seriously considered buying this game because i missed out and d2 has been such a rollercoaster. I wish people would all agree to go back to d1 lol. Would be cool to see.
Recently played through halo mcc with buddies and once we got to halo 3 we started laughing as we realized brutes with jump packs are just the cabal and after that. We would make atleast one destiny comment each play session. To the point where we just finished halo 4 and we were saying, "man. We wish destiny 1 was on pc." After a few hours of mentioning the vault of glass. The vex, and the taken with everything we bumped into in halo 4.
I absolutely adored D1, the game was my whole life for those 3 years. I played d2 from the beta but after Curse of Osiris I dropped the game, and now it seems wayyyy too complex and I don’t wanna jump back in until the next game (reset)
It’s just gone on sale on the PS store for the first time in a while and I’ve finally picked it up 😁. I’m a new light in D2 so looking forward to playing through the first game
I’m actually considering picking up since I just got a PS5 and saw it now $20, but I don’t have any friend to play D1 on PlayStation, was wondering if we can, maybe, play together sometime for PVE or Strike? I spend so much time playing D2 on pc back then, but I wanna try D1 and also come back on D2.
I recently deleted all my characters and progress, Valt everything so I can play d1 without the nostalgic weapons and just play the game as is. I had forgotten how much better d1 was in some aspects compared to d2. 6000hr on d1 vs 900 on d2. I'm 200hr in on my certified fresh run.

Or just optimise it for the lastest gen consoles an add an fov slider.
@@kamaara9140 idk how to do that lmao also might just move to pc consoles may be good now but I have a very old Xbox that crashes everything now it’s lame af
Why does it look so much better! The environments, the lighting, styling.. so much more than the generic feel of D2.
I’ve just started D1 again on a new account and it’s so much fun, it feels like a game with a lot more care and passion put into it.
You'd be surprised what you can get used to when you're too busy having absolutely fun. 😁
5:25 I feel exactly the same way. It was such a special time and I get to think about it over and over again. That's why I love to see guys like you making videos on that ❤
D1 *experience* will never be equaled.
It was rad for sure
Halo 3
Well said!
I’m in the same boat.
Destiny 1 when taken king came out was just an absolute amazing game... but I do miss the vault of glass and the vex mythoclast
This game was always better
It really has some special magic that's for sure
That's some major copium
@@BowlOfStainlessSoupPeople always call the older game better because of either nostalgia or asking for attention.
@@DBTHEPLUG its better by simply these 2 things.
1. they didn't take away entire expansions that you paid for
2. the game wasnt p2w as fuck like d2 is
@@V3RAC1TY Only your first point is valid.
I`ll definitely ask a dear friend of mine to come back to D1 for some nostalgic Moment.. I miss the destiny 1 mysterious atmosphere too..
Nice! I'd be curious to hear how the population is on the PlayStation side, my gut would think it's doing a little better than Xbox
@@BBKDRAGOON Honestly probably wouldn't be too much of a difference nowadays, a small handful more maybe. if that.
Bungie ain't releasing D1 on PC in fear of being out done by the mod community.
Brah you know what the mudding community could do with D1? It would be grand.
dude youre not alone, D1 is easily better than the dumpster fire of D2
I agree. Maybe it’s nostalgia but D1 was the greatest gaming experience of my life so far
Miss this game and all the friends i made on lfg sites where we would play for hours doing raids on all three characters
D1 will forever have a place in my heart, it was all so new to us. Like exploring a brand new world.
Level 20 vanguard list - no players on PS4 on the weekend. Tried about x10 times.
Fingers crossed for lv40.
Just made a new titan a few weeks ago and I’m always blown away at how full the tower is every day of the week😂
what console is it full in cause on ps4 cant find shit😂
@@ATHEONch3wu I play Xbox series x lol
@sMa-ch3wu ya I'm on PS5 and there's always people in the tower, there's also Discords for Destiny 1 that have people running strikes, campaigns and raids 👍
As someone who never finished my og play through until after having played d2(red war), I can't wait to give it a go on my ps5 in 2024.
D1 , play all the time
D2, play sometimes
i miss doing the d1 raids. i remember trying really hard to solo crotas end on hard and only ever being able to do it once after tons of attempts. id hop on again if my ps4 didnt take a crap a few months ago. destiny 1 was really special. its been a long time now but remember the 1st time people find the alternate path in that daily heroic mission for that powerful sniper rifle? or the insane community quest to figure out how to get that insane burst rifle from the siva raid? damn what a good time that was.
As a Destiny veteran I always say this when my friends who haven't played it ask me:
Destiny 1 has better visual design and weapon customization than Destiny 2.
i love d1 i still go back and play 2s when its weekly and do a few raids cause they average only 30 mins. i found out about this game before it had come out and the hype was great. the passion people had was huge. i was in school back then during the golden days of d1 so content drought never was a problem for me, id just hop on and have a good time with the boys. even after the last update the game is still fun and playable years later doing the same old missions and pvp and it got me into wanting to give d2 a try cause the new season is out. i think Activision had a different idea in mind for what destiny should be and i think it helped and also hurt the game. a lot of people quit destiny and moved on because of the various issues over the years which sucks, and i cant really say if d2 redeemed itself or not because everyones opinion is vastly different. i just like to shoot at stuff and go to different planets and actually hate spaceship missions so destiny is still the same for me. only thing i hate about d1 is the sunset for og trials and raid gear even after the end game. i think i understand why but at the same time could help thinking if we had maxed gear why not let us do a quest letting us infuse our gear that was sunset maybe giving the ol gunsmith a purpose. anyways just some late night thoughts d1 was a great game and the raids and missions felt like they mattered and getting the gear was actually really exciting and sometimes challenging.
Besides that, for me Destiny 1 is still just as amazing as it was when it launched
I know back then some people hated the content droughts we had, but I honestly liked it. It gave me a chance to play other games while they were working on the next dlc, without feeling like im missing out. Now destiny 2 is like a full time job if you want to keep up week to week
Im a new player and i have been playing since 9 momths and it is too addictive
That's really awesome to hear. Have you played any of the raids yet?
I still have D1 on my PS5 and still go back to play every now and then. But, I do get motion sickness myself because of the tight fov and 30 fps.
Can anyone explain why the lighting in D1 looks so much more realistic?
i've never played a game that made it so much fun to just hang out in tower and put a 6 man raid together. we had some great times. the guns and art were top shelf. the community made the game what it was.
Watching this makes me want to redownload the game. I felt like a god with my void warlock and Tlaloc in the crucible.
All Destiny 1 needs is a 60fps update and it'll breathe more life into it
So we really did get destinys ten year plan after all
I'm replaying it right now. I like how all the old content is still there, unspoiled. What a novel concept
Do you think it’s worth it to pick up? I jumped in on D2 very late like right before light fall and I haven’t really felt too attached to the game like I wanted to. Is multiplayer still active?
@Prezboy98 Yes, much slower than it used to be but you can still get into clash matches pretty consistently
I just got it for 20 bucks on xbox.i played it on ps4 back when it released and I have to say that I am enjoying going through d1 again.
That's awesome, enjoy!
10 years wow.. My last era of me gaming 🙌🏾. I miss my clan 😢
I copped it on sale and instantly met a fireteam like the old day 😅 this game has such value still
You can kind of play at 60 fps. With some new TVs (I own one) you can use the smooth motion option with game mode on, and it feels like 60fps and no input latency.
Pity this isn't on PC..with the state of D2, I'd jump on it.
I'm considering getting into the series. Been a huge Borderlands fan since 2009 and would love to get into something similar
Used to play every day my freshman year. i miss it so much, especially playing hunter and killing the taken king
D1 is home, especially Archer's Line. Good times had and it's lightning in a bottle
Let’s take second to acknowledge how clean that NLB headshot was
This game looks better than d2…I find that insane
Love this video!
I would LOVE to go back, but I can’t ruin that OG experience!!!
Especially because as I’ve grown older, I’ve grown very adjusted to modern FOV sliders
I could get by with the 30 FPS
I've just gone back to Destiny 2 after many years away. It's still great!
I still go back to D1 from time to time and always find it enjoyable.
Miss the tower. Miss PVP map sizes. Love the deserted feel of the world while exploring what felt like a once thriving world. Just nailed it.
D1 is better than d2
Facts
I loved this game but was plagued by connection/network issues that I could never get rid of. I miss it so much
I dipped out of Destiny 2 when they started sunsetting everything… A few days ago I installed destiny one again.
40 power level!? Its insane to think just how powerful our guardians have become
A resolution/fps upgrade on newer consoles would be monumental but they wont do it because d1 would become more popular than d2
I absolutely adored D1, the game was my whole life for those 3 years. I played d2 from the beta but after Curse of Osiris I dropped the game, and now it seems wayyyy too complex and I don’t wanna jump back in until the next game (reset)
when u made this video i started playing d1 again and found so many nice ppl. i don`t even want to play TFS
I lost my D1 progress years back and I'm wondering, is it worth regrinding?
30fps might actually be the new thing again because of the streamability
A testament to how good D1 was... they ported a lot of the content into D2.
I still play it to this day. I’m a die hard sweat that’s for sure😭
Alive is an incredibly strong word
Man I miss that 2014-2015 era
d1 but cross-platform and 60 fps would be a daily game for me again
hell, i still log on on ps4 for some crucible from time to time
All i ever played of destiny 1 was prison of the elders (i think thats what it was called) on my dads account so now im going back to actually play the campaign and its so fun
Never played it back in the day. So after watching this, am going to pick a copy up and dive in
What you on? If ps5 I'll play with you 👍
I'm enjoying doing wall glitches to the super captain for nostalgia sake!
DTS nostalgia 😍
Thanks! I miss that show, it was such a fun time.
Damn , so sad there isnt a PC version of this game.
