Actually Fabian Strategy's per Front Lines used to be; "This weapon has increased handling, stability and rate of fire when enemies are close." The buffed version of Front Lines; "This weapon has increased handling, stability and rate of fire when enemies are close. Kills automatically reload a portion of the mag", didn't come about until after Rise of Iron and patch 2.4.0.
You're a Destiny historian, man. For guys like me who got their start with vanilla D2, I love hearing about how impactful some of the D1 expansion content was. Makes me nostalgic for something I never participated in, if that makes sense.
This was the expansion that got me into this game. I was just playing vanilla destiny with my step dad. Still remember him inviting me to a fireteam randomly to do kings fall for the first time.
Your so blessed, my dad can’t play video games due to motion sickness. Video games are my passion. Not many (if anyone) in my life enjoys them like I do. I feel like I’m speaking a different language anytime I’m talking about how cool a game is or how much I enjoy them. Oh well, we continue the journey. Heads up, Guardian.
This dlc really helped me get through a tough time while my mum having cancer and gave me that escape I needed. Was my favourite time in gaming. This dlc was the best ever released for destiny.
I’m glad you had something like this to help you through that. Gaming really is an outlet for a lot of people - of course for a lot of people it just creates stress, but for those that it doesn’t, it’s really good to keep you mindful. Having something to take you elsewhere so you can forget about the real world for a bit, and the Taken King did something right to make people feel needed. I hope you’re doing well now man, whatever happens, no matter how dark the day is, you’ll always smile again :)
Interestingly enough, it also helped me when my mother got a TBI (Traumatic brain injury) which caused her to be bed ridden for about 2 years, crazy how much destiny has touched and helped the kids/teens/people that have played it.
Oryx had a presence like no other. That first mission was (in my opinion) the best introduction to a villain that destiny has EVER had. He showed up swinging and boy, was he swung HARD.
TTK and Foresaken were absolute peak points in Destiny history. Kinda crazy how nostalgic it is thinking back on both those periods and all the memories I associate with them.
This dlc introduced me to the best fireteam I had ever met. Sadly we all split ways when d2 launched but next week we are all going to get back together to hopefully do kings fall in d2 for old times sake
@@rayly7291 Which is a *damn* shame. It's nice that they brought some of the missions back, but Forsaken was just... it was built different, and the short little summary missions just don't capture that feeling. It's a nice nostalgia trip for sure, but it's not the same at all.
Good lord! 8 years! Where did all the time go? TTK was my first step into Destiny as a whole. Now I’m a massive lore nerd and a lover of the Hive and the Taken wherever they spring up. *Long live Oryx! Long live the Taken King!*
Ahh, yes the SAVIOR of the Destiny franchise! And my favorite expansion of Destiny 1&2. This brings back so many memories, good times they were. Gaming was in a much better spot than it is today.
Switched to at the time’s next gen for this, from 360 to PS4, fresh restart on everything, And i still think this is the single best expansion I’ve played across any video game in recent time. Such a baller DLC that brought so much fresh and new after such a, tumultuous first year. Also! When it leaked on the roadmap, Taken King I remember was called “Comet: Plague of Darkness” if I remember right? Waaay before it was called TTK.
Seeing that first mission to The Taken King gives off major Alien: Isolation and Dead Space vibes. Something is hunting former enemies that not you or they know truly what it is.
D1 was such a monumental part of my early adult years. From being a late teen to my early 20s, Destiny gave me some of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had since Halo. God how I miss having those first experiences in this gem of a game.
TTK and the End of D1 are my 2 absolute favourite eras of this franchise. So much content and so much to do on a weekly basis but nothing ever felt overwhelming
That's because Bungie is still yet to realize that endgame content and seasonal activities are super cool and all but the thing that gets people enamored with the game is strong playlist activities. Destiny has always been at its best when the strike playlist and casual crucible were at their strongest.
The best expansion in destiny history in my opinion. There was just nothing like it. So great, the soundtrack, strikes, missions, the raid, trials...EVERYTHING!
Trials is bogus Should be about whose the best not wo spent a yar farming something that shouldn't even be in the game let alone pvp Shits utterly ridiculous and a joke Cod literally bans Hella weapons from comp Destiny says hey you got a fan boat shit cannon flame thrower that causes earthquakes and bsods the other player Bring it on Best of the best of the best Absolutely atrocious
as a vanilla d1 player taken king by far was the WORST expansion in the game. it was good for new players. but for vets? literal slap in the face. every single piece of gear got sunset. every single exotic got sunset. raids and prison got sunset. and they just made it in house for everything to be brought up to light just to reverse it next expansion. even the raid kings fall was garbage. fun raid with cool loot. but the loot itself? absolutely terrible and useless. worse than any world drop weapons by far. taken king actually made me quit for months until rise saved it.
@Eiferssucht No one really gives a shit bout destiny campaigns tho, everyone plays it once for each character and forgets bout em. And don't go telling me witch queen campaign was good, it was average but looks like a masterpiece compared to the rest of the dogshit. Taken king does everything better than any other dlc besides probably forsaken but I can't give my opinion on that dlc since I didn't play it on release
Thank you so much for this video and all your content. I got into Destiny during Taken King and have so many good memories of it. Your video inspired me to re-download it on my PS5 to experience the story again!
the camera backing away from a warsat then through a massive asteroid and them going to the dreadnaught while looking smaller and smaller and smaller is such a good shot to show the perspective of what were up against
My dad got me into Destiny in the middle of TTK. D1 was the first of two games I played when I got a PS4. A few months later he and his clan took me through my first raid, Kings Fall. To this day The Taken King is my favorite destiny expansion of all time.
I played Destiny since release, but only with the taken king I actually started loving the game. the best expansion, the greatest story, it's just so good.
Eight years. Damn... it's been that long? That long since I picked up a controller and became a Guardian? I thank you for covering this, as this was the expansion that drew me into the game. Probably the best expansion across both games, too.
TTK had the BEST campaign in all of Destiny: part 1 was introducing and prepping to take one Oryx, part 2 was the best quest line(s), the Taken War and Kings Fall, both parts dramatically exploring the rich world and lore of Destiny even deeper from the Fallen, Cabal, Vex, Rasputin, Hive, etc. Oryx felt like the final boss of D1, giving a tangible form or avatar to the Darkness faction, hell Id argue he's a better Destiny villain than the Witness.
It's not even close. Oryx actually did shit. The Witness has just talked shit and did a couple of cool things in a cutscene. He better have a MAJOR presence in Final Shape.
it also had some of the best gameplay that they just can't recreate, missions like lost to light and last rites were just so unique and cool, like the fake mission ending overlay in lost to light than the fact we went back to crotas throne world but it had the deathsingers in it plus oryx's ship was in the skybox instead of crotas oversoul, just such a cool campaign
Still my favorite time through this game. Forsaken a close second. Just spent hours in the dreadnaught exploring. So much fun. Great raid. Awesome pvp. Court of oryx, new strikes. It’s was just awesome. Getting sleeper was great
I haven't played since 2020, but my favorite memories are of the Taken King/Rise of Iron and Forsaken in D2. This was an awesome reminder of why I loved this game so much.
THE TAKEN KING was thee King of DLC's in the Destiny series, if you ask me. IT was the greatest time, I've ever had playing a social game with all of it's glorious experiences with the game and friends. Man, we'd meet every Tuesday for Raid night and have an f'n blast until we got all 3 raids done. One for each character. Man, oh man was it fun. The days of the G-horn craze were the best as well. It took me 10 months before it finally dropped for me after a hard mode NightFall. It seemed like everyone of my friends had it for months except for me. Finally one night while helping a random guy complete his nightfall on my worst character, it finally dropped for me at 3:00am. I think i screamed so loud that my neighbors asked me the next day, "Is everything alright over there, we heard screams". hahahahahaha. I told them why and they just rolled their eyes. They couldn't digest it at all. LOL. I loved The Taken King. Such great memories.
bro i cannot wait for the Destiny History video of the crafted weapons glitch. Hopefully you're planning on making one. Truly one of the wildest stretch of days in Destiny History. You gotta make it, Evan. it must be documented.
If I can remember correctly there was a timed version of the Phobos mission, which I also thought was the cherry on top that was missing from an already cool mission ❤
I will never forget hearing regicide for the first time. 8 years later and there is no other music or song that plays in my head whenever a big villain is revealed. And I don't think it will ever be dethroned (pun slightly intended) for it is way too good. And everytime I face down oryx, I remember just how powerful his existence is to me.
My biggest gaming regret ever is not playing D1 because I listened to Angry Joe. I missed out on so many great memories, man. I never listened to reviews ever again after that, I play whatever I want to play and make my own judgements.
This is probably my favorite video from you Evan! We still haven't had a Villain as awesome or as captivating like Oryx imo. So many things I wish would come back into D2 from TTK probably won't like the Dreadnaught location or good strikes.
Thank you for Documenting Destiny the way you do, you put so much thought into this. And I really feel like Im back in 2015 watching this. I miss when Bungie just blew their load and gave us what we wanted instead of making excuses about “over delivery” but none the less great video man!
I may have stopped playing destiny but I will never forget the experience that TTK was. It was my favorite gameplay and had the best loop imo. Glory to the olden days
This DLC still remains my favorite without question, it was when i got into destiny, and kings fall was my first raid i ever did. and it actually felt like an MMO for the first and only time in the franchise
The Taken King was by far the most excited I had ever been for any piece of gaming media ever. I still remember watching the ViDoc for the first time on either the bus that my class was on for our 8th Grade DC field trip or sometime before that.
PSA: If you play D1 on xbox 360 or ps3, legacy consoles never got the rise of iron dlc so they're forever stuck in the ttk meta. But sadly it takes like a half hour to find a lobby online if theres one at all
The Taken King was what truly got me into Destiny. I started playing between Crota and House of Wolves but never truly got into the game until Taken King. Oryx is still by far my favorite villain in all of Destiny. Going into his lore, he's such a fascinating character. Loved exploring The Dreadnought, I spent several weeks doing King's Fall for the first time. I'm glad they brought it back for D2. Thx for this amazing retrospective.
The first mission gave me goosebumps man this was a good time. Taken king is 100% what got me fully in love in the game the vanilla game was cool but something was different once TTK dropped Destiny felt like a “serious” game something you could run to the guys who only played madden and tell em to get on
The Taken King undeniably has the best introduction mission to any campaign. One of the things that has really disappointed me with the recent expansions is the lack of power/force felt from our enemies. The only loss I felt going into Beyond Light was the loss of content. Mara and Eris had to essentially trap the Dreadnaught just so we wouldn't get invaded. The Witness and Xivu pretty much just sat here doing nothing for two expansions. Xivu killed Sagira, dipped for a year, failed to capture/kill Savathun, dipped for a year, failed to take advantage of Rasputin's Warsats, dipped for a few months. The Witness didn't do anything but free Eramis. There isn't a logical explanation for why we haven't been annihilated already. Its admittedly a small detail, but attention to detail is what makes lore feel like it matters.
Bro did not disrespect High Moon studio saying that the make "Deadpool???" and "Transformers???" Deadpool is a gem and Transformer War and Fall of Cybertron are GOAT. You should play them
I still to this day have my destiny edition white ps4. I got the bundle that came with destiny and taken king. Amazing video thank you for a trip down memory lane
I played d1 for the first time this year, had so much fun, love how the snipers feel in d1 over d2, and my favorite cayde line is, "get your rock, off my map"
The Books of sorrow are some of, if not, the best lore in all of Destiny. All the Hive and Worm gods turn Hive into gods and Fundament is all such incredible lore. I always tell people to watch Byf's borrow of sorrows 3 part series. It's so incredible and he did a wonderful job with voice acting and painting a brilliant picture for us to enjoy.
Looking back, the only thing I didn't like about TTK was the sunsetting. My year one character's loot and fashion was gorgeous. It was hard to find anything that really filled the void. At least I could still take my felwinters, shadow of veils and against all odds etc into crucible though. Rise of iron did good by bringing back a lot of those old guns and armours.
i Wasn't Sleeping nor did i get to play taken king or much of D1 i jst love destiny and your content is the best that summarizes for us who missed out but make it feel like we experienced it ourselves. Appreciate the love BRo
8 years already? Damn I’m old. I have so many fond memories of TTK, it’s probably in my top 5 gaming experiences. Everything from the storytelling to the raid was peak gaming. Sucks that I never got into D2 even though I loved D1.
This dlc was everything. Even thought for me before taken king was probably the most fun I had with friends once taken king came out it was just awesome. All the missions the secret missions killing oryx and starting the sword missions. Doing the strikes and killing the elemental knight for the sword your trying to get. The dreadnought itself was fantastic. So many good hours spent there. Even the quest for the touch of malice was fun even if it was long and a lot of grinding. Using your swords to block the poison floors to get those chest. Looking for those materials it was just awesome. The raid was great. The only issues I had was the moment reached maxed level the content wasn’t harder than your light level. Year 1 destiny everything was always more powerful than your light level. So content took so much more longer to beat. But just listening to the music for taken king brings me back to that time grinding for those items I wanted. At this time of the game a few of my friends I played with daily stopped playing as much or at all. The first few weeks of taken king was flooded with all my friends then they all fell off. Leaving me alone to play. This is why year 1 destiny meant more to me even thought the game was way better in year 2. The friends I ran home after work and played the game with was just such a great time. I lost a good friend to covid years later so when I hear certain sound tracks to the game it reminds me of that time we had playing every night from 9pm till 4am just having a great time. It also haunts me knowing that time playing with friends are gone forever. That’s what made the game for me. It wasn’t always about the content. It was more about the time with friends playing the game every night. Looking forward to getting home jumping on and doing strikes missions waiting for the wolves to spawn on planets and raids. I still play till this day destiny but it never compares to what the game was the first two years for me. That’s my love hate relationship with this game. I hate playing it but I don’t want to see the game I spend so much time on and all the nostalgia that comes along with the game disappear. So even thought I might take breaks from the game time to time saying I had enough. I’m always jumping back into the game looking for that same feeling the game once gave me in the first year of destiny.
This expansion is what really hooked me on destiny. The return of kingsfall in d2 as a day one raid is my fav day one in d2. The nostalgia tied to this content is so strong
imo this TTK is possibly one of the very short amount of times where it actually felt like the story was consistent and had a structure in Crota's End you go down to the Hellmouth you kill Crota and he lets out a cry before dying and TTK is literally Oryx arriving for revenge
This video brought me back to highschool days chilling killing some taken, discovering every little secret possible. I didnt mind the grind back then i just wanted MORE. Sadly i cant say that too much now a days but im not the most frequent player so when i come back theres always something to do.
Can't believe the best story Destiny has told is 8 years old, feels like so long ago. I never played OG Destiny but Taken King got me interested in the franchise and launched the Hive to the top of my enemy factions list for a lot of stuff. Here's hoping The Final Shape is good and that we can one day explore the Dreadnaught again.
The last raid my Guardian ever saw. My team and I passed through nearly the entire raid, faced Oryx himself, then after a single wipe had a teammate rage quit that caused all the others to leave as well.
I love how in the end he tells people to wake up if we were watching this and falling asleep and I definitely woke the hell up after he said something 😂😂 love this guy man
you know that cabal called ta'aun put a smile on my face because the weapon R.Y.N.O. from the ratchet and clank saga is translated as T.A.U.N. in spanish
You were spot on with saying how if I watched that far the taken king was my favourite. I was in middle school if I remember correctly when it came out and I probably put like 4000 hours into just that expansion, never mind the base game + the first dlc. The game instantly died for me though when they dropped 360 for the SAME game just the new expansion. Me being a poor middle school kid in a fairly low-middle class family we couldn’t afford a XBone. I will always long for the days back then grinding destiny non-stop, exotic farming, Trials of Osiris, raid week grinding.
I actually just went through D1 all the way up and through TTK's year of content on a completely fresh character. I had more fun in it than I had in the past **while** of D2.... It just felt so much more grounded, the lighting was better, not everything looked so much more reflective....
I seriously hope you guys like this one, up next is rise of iron ❤️

Loved exploring The Dreadnought, I spent several weeks doing King's Fall for the first time. I'm glad they brought it back for D2. Thx for this amazing retrospective.
I remember staying home from school and waiting all night to play the campaign with my boys. So much fun
Great job telling the story EvanF1997. I love your Destiny history videos. Thank you
Such a good time in the franchise. My first son was born and Oryx was wreaking havoc. Great video. Great memories.
Amazing video thank you for a trip down memory lane
the taken king is still the best period to ever play Destiny BY FAR. Everything felt fresh and kept you coming back.
I remember how hype this was, even if I couldn't play due to being poor at the time.
I played d1 for the first time this year, had so much fun, love how the snipers feel in d1 over d2, and my favorite cayde line is, "get your rock, off my map"
Kind of crazy to see how much more content DLC used to bring
Rise of iron did good by bringing back a lot of those old guns and armours.
at first I didn't either, then eventually it just felt nice to use new weapons
i Wasn't Sleeping nor did i get to play taken king or much of D1 i jst love destiny and your content is the best that summarizes for us who missed out but make it feel like we experienced it ourselves. Appreciate the love BRo
I had so much fun with this expansion, I still listen to the soundtrack frequently in the car when I’m doing errands.
The taken king was so good. So many good times, thanks for this
And now we wait for Evan to make a video about this legendary weekend
8 years already? Damn I’m old.
I have so many fond memories of TTK, it’s probably in my top 5 gaming experiences. Everything from the storytelling to the raid was peak gaming. Sucks that I never got into D2 even though I loved D1.
I ran taken king with my 2 friends. Man the good times and the grind. This dlc made me interested in destiny lore
34:40 he didn't ascend he took himself
Taken King's strikes are seriously God tier. The shield Brothers and Alak huul nightfall got my blood pumping like no other while playing them man.
taken king one of the greatest moments in gaming you just had to be there
BROOOOO IT CAME OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY! NO WONDER I LOVED IT SO MUCH😭😭 I miss these times.
This expansion is what really hooked me on destiny. The return of kingsfall in d2 as a day one raid is my fav day one in d2. The nostalgia tied to this content is so strong
And unfortunately all d2 can do is nostalgia bait because they will never get to that level again
@@ChickenJoe-tq6xd I know brothaman… it sucks ass
You absolutely should do an episode on forgotten exotics
Omfg I had forgotten all about Riffle gaming. That intro was immediately so recognizable
OH MY GOD, THAT RIFLE GAMING INTRO TOOK ME WAYYYYY BACK
I don’t often watch Evanf videos but when i do it has something to do with d1 content
imo this TTK is possibly one of the very short amount of times where it actually felt like the story was consistent and had a structure
in Crota's End you go down to the Hellmouth you kill Crota and he lets out a cry before dying and TTK is literally Oryx arriving for revenge
I rose up and saluted when the he said to rise up for the taken king theme
i jus wish Evan would get loads more views ya know, he puts so much effort into his vids and i know who watches them loves them
This video brought me back to highschool days chilling killing some taken, discovering every little secret possible. I didnt mind the grind back then i just wanted MORE. Sadly i cant say that too much now a days but im not the most frequent player so when i come back theres always something to do.
9:41 You can make the ship rotate both ways if you focus. Crazy optical illusion!
Lol final shape is not going to be good, don’t get your hopes up
Shared alot of incredible memories from this game, but nothing got me more motivated to go slay some enemies than this dlc
The last raid my Guardian ever saw. My team and I passed through nearly the entire raid, faced Oryx himself, then after a single wipe had a teammate rage quit that caused all the others to leave as well.
I love how in the end he tells people to wake up if we were watching this and falling asleep and I definitely woke the hell up after he said something 😂😂 love this guy man
22:45 Who likes the Dreaming City more than the Dreadnaught? They need to be arrested!
you know that cabal called ta'aun put a smile on my face because the weapon R.Y.N.O. from the ratchet and clank saga is translated as T.A.U.N. in spanish
Man I remember the trailer would always play on Spotify
This video makes me want to start a new character in D1 and run the whole thing over again.
We've gone from some of the best strikes in the game to crappy seasonal activities being added to the strike and night fall activities
YES, it's a good day when evan is talking about my favorite DLC.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ooo nostalgia trip while at work?? Thank you Evan for the video!
8 years man, time goes fast
My absolute favourite time in all of Destiny! Great video thank you Evan 👌
I was a xbox 360 Player and played taking King from 2016 to 2020
19:11 this is the same knight that we killed in the patrol to get the exotic swords
I love how the idea behind Oryx getting revenge for Crota goes against the entire concept of the sword logic…
I wish they added both the dreadnought and ishtar sink into destiny 2
I actually just went through D1 all the way up and through TTK's year of content on a completely fresh character. I had more fun in it than I had in the past **while** of D2.... It just felt so much more grounded, the lighting was better, not everything looked so much more reflective....
8 years since the tanken king damn
the nostalgia is something else man 😭
This is peak Destiny. It will never come close to this ever again.
Video on forgotten exotics? Yes please~
My favourite antagonist so far
