Christian Funny thing is: As a After Forever fan as Tarja left Nightwish the first thing I thought was: The only singer able to make old Nightwish songs her own and sing on her level would be Floor.

Maybe, but she is so professional it wouldn't matter who is in the audience she won't be affected by it. I'm sure her parents have heard her sing many many times before but if it was their 1st NW gig with her yes I guess you're quite right.
Oh right! This is also the performance you can see in her 'Nightwish - Floor Jansen's Rockacademy Story (Full)' at the end! I thought I recognised the stage and her outfit etc. You can see how she feels about that in this sort of documentary about her (it's a Dutch TV show called 'The Reunion').
Floor's parents seem really cool from what I saw on an interview of them on this channel. They were about to see her perform wish Nightwish for the first time.
Floor is the probably most versatile female singer in metal music. Always exploring new directions like growling and still maintaining her classical and "normal" singing skills. And last but not least she really enjoys what she is doing. You can see with how much efford and heartblood she is into this. Hope this constellation of Nightwish will bring out much more beautiful music.
I'm posting this reply after the news of Marko's departure. We don't know what the future holds for Nightwish, but I do want to say, after long consideration and listening to a ton of music, I think Floor is the greatest vocalist of the recorded era. Her only rivals are Freddie Mercury and Dimash Kudaibergen, and Dimash has not tried himself in many of the genres Floor has conquered. Yma Sumac had a bigger range, but not nearly Floor's quality or power. Yes, the great opera stars can sing opera better than Floor, but there is no record of any of them doing pop, country, metal, salsa etc. even halfway decently. One of a kind!

@@hiawatha.g Problem with the great opera singers is that they train so long, hard and intensive on opera technique, that they lose the power to sing in other "normal" registers, like chest, belt, mixed etc... Anything they do always sounds like opera

@@hiawatha.g Indeed, Dimash is one of the few comparable to Floor in that he also can pierce the soul just by singing. He has a much higher range than Floor but doesn't do symphonic metal. His specialty is neoclassic. He certainly possesses the power and charism that Floor has. In my opinion he is the only singer alive today that compares. See SOS, Sinful Passion and Adagio.
I must admit that Floor is getting better every year. She is even gaining that opera feel in songs that require it. Outstanding performance.

WOW! As much as I loved Floor's versatility, her full and powerful voice and all she represents on the stage.... hearing this, this is the very FIRST time she pulls off something that only Tarja EVER managed to do. I am sitting here, shivering, having goose-bumps... and it is not because I am cold. Actually the opposite, this makes me feel warm inside. This is SO MUCH MORE than music. This is a little piece of heaven on earth.
The audio quality is WAY better here than in the videos from Wembley.

Ivan Bassanini And the CD album of songs from Wembley also sounds like mud. The Tampere show sounds even better than Wacken 2013.
They've had problems with sound mixing (or whatever it was) in Wembley show. That's why they've had postponed the release of the dvd in Europe two times.
Tuomas must be on absolute cloud nine these days. You can just see it in his face! He can finally bring back all these amazing songs he wrote back in the day which, after Tarja left, he may have thought would never see the stage again.

They are all happy to play all the songs with Floor. Seriously I can't remember them smiling back in the days when playing with Tarja or Anette. Floor brightened the whole band up. She's an amazing element to this band.

The difference is that Tarja can only sing with operatic voice. Floor can sing whatever way she wants.
Tarja has been getting a lot better lately on the non operatic vocals. Just check out some of her recent live clips.

I wouldn't say Tarja is "learning" from Floor. If anything, Floor should be learning from Tarja, as she is the one singing Tarja's pieces. lol That being said, the two women take vastly different approaches to singing. Tarja is the better vocalist (as far as technique goes), but I don't quite understand her newer "chestier" style. Her lower chest voice is beautiful, though. It's clear, though, that Floor is much more comfortable singing in a contemporary style, while Tarja's voice still blooms in more classical roles.
Floors voice...pitch perfect...timing perfect...strong...great range and control, could listen to her all day...!!! Well Done NW..!!!!

ThatOnePerson Wonder if Floor will ever be more natural playing with the crowd. It always feels clumsy. But damn, I don't care she easily has the most versatile, wonderful voice in metal/rock.

Larisa Bleav In Anette's defense, (I do agree that she would not have been capable of singing it though), NW never really played this song outside of the Oceanborn tour when Tarja was around neither. It was played 55 times during Oceanborn's era. It remained off the sets during Wishmaster's and Century Child's. Only to come back for 5 festival gigs during Once tour. So when Floor said it was off for ten years she could have said 15 and still being accurate. Anette probably didn't help into bringing this song back but the band didn't have a real interest into it neither...
How can someone say that NW is over? They're more alive than ever! I can't wait to see the DVD and that wonderful performance of The Greatest Show on Earth in Tampere.

As far as I am concern Tarja was and still is one and only, but Floor Jansen has a special and magic, unique voice and a great power on stage. She sings and brings songs on a very special way, the way she stands, performs and gives to fans what they want to hear. It can only be done by a few people and she is definitely where she is suppose to be. No doubts about it. Carry on !!!

SBTB is beautiful, but not even close to these.
Years ago, Tuomas used to write lyrics in a more beautiful way, more poetic, with a bunch of metaphores and allegories that indeed sound beautiful. Now, he still uses that but some of them sound forced.
Don't get me wrong. I love SBTB, the theme of the song is by far the most beautiful to talk about(that beautiful moment when you find epiphany/spiritual revelation through communion with nature) but the lyrics where just, simple. That's about lyrics. Now, if we talk about melodies, well I'm not an expert to talk about the complexity of it but, I've noticed he relies so much more in orchestrations ala Zimmer, Howard or Elfmann, which is not bad, but I personally found more beauty in a simplier melody.
But that's just my opinion, with a couple of arguments. Not meant to argue, at the end I still kind of enjoy NW.

Amazing performance. Floor does not only have the vocal versatility to sing Annete's and Tarja's songs but also she's tall and beautiful, has a superb presence in the stage. Absolutely fantastic to hear and see!! The band is better than ever!! :D

I agree! She has a beautiful voice, but, as Matt said, Slow, Love, Slow doesn't fit her powerful voice, in my opinion. It needs the softness of Anette's voice, and that's coming from someone that didn't enjoy Anette in the band really much, lol.
Have you seen her vehicle of spirit bonus performance of Poet and the Pendulum? if not look it up. You want slow and soft...you have there the best example.Cheers!
Floor is fucking unstoppable. Nightwish finally found their vocal identity. The prior incarnations were exceptionally good, but greatness is here now. I hope Marko returns to good health and returns to the band as I see his voice as integral to their sound as well as their stage identity.
They just announced the new bassist Jukka as a permanent member so I don't see Marko returning for awhile.

There was one here in Sao Paulo a few years ago. I skipped it because I didn't know Floor joined the band and I didn't want to hear you-know-who singing the oldies.

PB-Trinity I heard it at Himos Park last summer, it was fantastic!!! I've loved the song since DPP was released, but thought that Anette's voice wasn't the best for it, especially not in live concert... She sang well in studio, but still it felt like some parts of the song needed a stronger voice.

I'm kind of impressed by this performance, I love, LOVE, Floor, maybe even more than Tarja, but never thought she could sing the songs from Oceanbron, since they sound too specific for Tarja's voice. And here she just blown my mind, addapting her voice in a impressive manner.

@@Aurinkohirvi You are wrong. Floor has been trained in lyrical singing but doesn't do it all the time. Her strength is her versatility, but she sings classical very well. Don't judge music if you know so little about it. This performance was not mixed very well for DVD in my opinion but her performance was excellent. She also pronounces English much better than Tarja ever did, which means this version sounds more the way it's supposed to.

@@Yuri7Fleischhauer Kai is a great musician and nice person as well. Too bad we can't have both. In my opinion Jukka is fine already, but he can't backstab his friend and master. Leaving Nightwish would be a huge set back in his life, and Jukka knows that. He got used to the backstage, doesn't bother him that bad, and his income is safe, the same could not be said of Kai. This just proves how big Jukka heart is. But we need a couple songs with Jukka now and then.

Floor seems to be challenged with this one, Tarja basically sang this effortlessly, while Floor is kind of muffled below Tarja's sound frequency.
And it sounds like she's got a bad wobble also and she seems to go off key a lot.

This was the first Nightwish song I ever heard back in the day, and it's always been one of my favorites. She has given it new life, and I am living.

I like stargazers with Tarja but sometimes i have the feeling that it is missing something...i could be that Floor is singing in a lower register but how she sings that song adds so much to it for me that i never get bored by listening to it...it feels like flying to the stars .
