My “problem” -in theory since I haven’t seen and tried them yet- with the T200 is that the shorter irons are stronger lofted than the P790. This requires an additional wedge in the bag for me. PW is 43* followed by 48 degrees to which I would have to add a 52, 56 and 60 degree. That’s five wedges! One too many. The P790 only requires 4 wedges at 45, 50, 54 and 58 degrees. This isn’t a cost issue for me - only the thing that I have to eliminate one of my woods. Granted - I can have the T200 bent weaker but I believe the original gapping and lofts have a purpose. Having had two versions of the P790 and presently playing a combo set with P770 and P790, I’m afraid (regretfully) that I’m getting the P790 next year.
I tested both and purchased the T200s due to a better feel and looks for me. I have played two dozen rounds and could not be happier. You can't go wrong with either set.
Hit both clubs with steel shafts, then put in the steal fiber shafts in both. The P-790 excelled IMO opinion with those shafts, the feel was so much different as was the distance substantially different also. I purchased the P-790 with the fiber shaft over the T200.
I have tried out both the T200 and P790 at the PGA Superstore I go to with Foresight GC Hawk launch monitors and screens so I can get hard data. One of the biggest improvements in the T200 is they got rid of that cheap looking and feeling plastic badge on the back and it now looks like a solid iron. I did not like the AMT shaft and hit the T200 with a Nippon NS Pro 950 GH R flex 94.5 gram shaft. I hit the P790 with a Dynamic Gold 95 R300 flex 96 gram shaft. I preferred the P790. I also hit the T150 and actually got better results with it than with the T200. I think anyone who likes Titleist irons and is thinking about the T200 should also give the T150 a try.
On looks alone it's the p790s I'm not a fan of chrome on sunny days . But definitely going to try both for feel sound and dispersion when I get fitted Andy. By the way the reds are going well 🤞
I’ve really got my eye on the t200’s. I hit them and they feel amazing! The biggest thing is they look awesome and are much smaller and the top line is very small compared to the p790.
Haven't hit the TM P790 2023 but I've hit the Titleist t200 and they feel good.. Until I pick up my PXG gen 6 0311P's and those are still king in my book (as of right now). Good stuff AVG :)
I have a blend set of T200 for the 4/5 irons and then T150 for the rest - superb performance & feel - my choice came down to the top line - I preferred the smaller appearance of the Titleist
Player's distance irons can be played by handicaps 5-35. Which helps explain their popularity. In my opinion, I would be going with the TaylorMade all day as it seems like it is much more efficient at generating ball speed given clubhead speed was down by 4 mph. Either that, or your strikes weren't that pure with the Titleist. In my videos, I always select shots that will give me a club speed average approximately the same, maybe consider that for next time Andy.
Nice video. I tested both these irons today (also T150 and Paradym) and came away quite happy with the T200 - so much so I purchased a 5-PW set in Mitsubishi Blue shaft. This surprised me a bit since I went in thinking I'd get the P790. For me it came down to the swing feel and impact were better for me with the T200 than the others and I generally hit it better (smash factor) than the others. I'm looking forward to playing with them soon.
I had the last version of the T200s and currently have the 2021 P790s. I love the P790s and found them easier overall to hit than the T200s. I do agree the T200 look a lot smaller and the P790s a bit chunkier at the ball.
Titleist T200 at £1249 4-W or Wilson D9 FORGED at £779 saving of £470!!!! It's a no-brainer . Superb build quality and custom fit. Ok last years irons but will match any numbers of the lastest irons out. SO its a case of pay £1249 for the lastest irons and be one of the " I've got the lastest irons" but still shoot the same scores (probably) or save yourself £470
Just got fitted- thought I would get the 2023 P790s as I play the 2019 version and I do prefer the look. For whatever reason I was a 10-12 yards longer on the T200s with more consistent distances so that’s what I went with. These will be my first Titleist irons.
The T200 has a stronger loft that's why. Even Callaway has a stronger loft than P790. it wasn't a fair match. If it's the same loft I believe P.790 would be much longer.
I agree that manufacturers may be self limtiing by calling these irons "player's distance". Maybe Player's Plus or Player's Preferred might be a better term as they really are talking more about preference for bit stronger loft and a bit more MOI rather than restricting these products to a handicap range.
Andy, In your testing of these clubs, did you also hit a fair amount of full wedge shots, partial shots, pitches and chips. Which irons do you like better for those shots? Thanks, Joe
You must have your club data wrong at the 7:40 mark. You are swinging the Titleist iron 4.6mph faster with the same results (in terms of distance) from the P790? If that were true...the 790's are much, much, much "hotter" off the face.
Technically there is a 0.5 degree loft difference between the 2 clubs. Would be interesting to get them on a loft/lie machine because that could mean an actual loft difference of anything between 0-1.5 degree lofts. The club head speed difference of 4.5 mph is, as Andy said in the video, odd. Doubly odd because it did not translate to more ball speed, height, carry. It is almost as though it was a consistent misread.
Andy, I'm still struggling a bit with the difference in the club head speed with a similar swing effort. Did you get a chance to check the swingweight or the head weight of the two irons?
Can't go wrong with either set. I hit both great, but the P790 felt better and looks better IMO. T200s are a solid club for sure though. My only real complaint is they're too shiny.
Hey i can get a new set of Taylormade P-790's 6 - PW , AW for ( 950 Canadian ) ( 675 US ) a smoking deal i think 700 discount but i am trying to choose between them vs the PXG BLACK OPS 5 - PW , AW ( 1100 canadian ) vs the TAKOMO 101's 4 - PW ( 850 canadian ) what are your thoughts for distance , foregivness , feel thx I appreciate picking your brain and getting your opinion I will be 60 in March and am an 8 handicap thx again for taking the time to give me your welcomed input cheers from Canada

P790’s, love um! Went 6-W with a 5 hybrid. I like the 45’ PW, feels nice loft gap into my 50/54/58 wedges

Zero chance he’s getting more ball speed and better smash. The p790 has a 1.46 smash which about what I see for my 2 hybrid.

That club speed difference and efficiency is interesting. If those are equal, the TM likely performs better.
Always great content and I know you read comments..... History lesson. Mizuno was the 1st many years before PXG and then Taylor Made ...

Are the forged still available ?
@paulmcgee1867 yes still available... I got custom fitted.. arrived direct from Wilson 10 days later
t200 see way more distance, atleast for me.
Lol make others feel guilty cos they may want the “latest irons”

Curious how you feel the Titleist T350 compare to TaylorMade P790 ?
What kind of shoes are you wearing? nice
Would the size of the T350 be about the size of the P790?
Thx
Still prefer the pxg 0311p gen6 irons. Black hawk edition
4.6 mph faster clubhead speed with t200? But the same ball speed? Weird
Pretty sure that is what I said🤷♂️
Titleist 350 and ping 430 as a match.
Always dressed to impress 🎉
