Thanks for the review. Finding a review on this one is quite difficult, as most of the results in google show the old e7440.

Good review. I received my ultralight chassis today after upgrading my 3yr old 7400 2-1. I went a little higher spec than the one you reviewed; QHD+ (2560x1600) touch screen (same), i7-1365U, 32gb LPDDR5, 1TB M2, 5MP i-red camera (same) 5G WWAN /e-sim & 65w charger. First impressions are great, except I like the smaller screen bezel on the 7400. Paid $3,500 AUD or $2,385 USD. The heat after running it 7 hours on battery is much less noticeable than my 7400 but in all honestly the weight saving is not as noticeable as I had expected. Shame it misses out on the micro SD card port as my 7400. Happy none the less & will roll these out to our executive team. I went 7000 Vs 9000 series to retain the legacy USB ports & cost savings.

The Dell Latitude 7440 Ultralight laptop seems pretty much decked out as far as having a great display, all day battery life, great webcam quality, good internal mics, great sounding speakers, good port selection. Having said that, it is not without its negatives from no Micro SD Card reader, soldered RAM and 60Hz Refresh Rate. This is a business portable laptop and as such, it will get the job done at the end of the day. Great review Andrew!! 👍😁

Andrew, another superb video. You asked for comments about the webcam: picture was good, but audio volume was much too low.

Nice laptop for those who it is designed for. Camera and mics are good. 16 gigs of ram is enough for most people. Since this unit is geared for users traveling they will mostly likely use it for email and office type of applications and not be their machine to do more in house uses such as video editing etc.. Speakers sounded good. Display good. Great review.

Great review! Really nice laptop. Finally, they switch to a 16:10 display like their 9XX0 series. I also need one of these 60w minuscule power bricks. I'm also surprised by the move to 2242 for the SSD. rather than the 2230 format they are using with their 9XX0 series. They are finally selling fast and more affordable third part 2230 SSDs.

That power adapter design is good. Cables on both ends are detachable. I bought one to replace my broken thinkpad adapter :) Hoping they make the 90w/100w model with the same design and maybe dual usb c ports is a plus :)

I tested the laptop in the store and when i placed my hands on it and typed the laptop tilted under the pressure/weight of my hands. The rubber feet are placed too centrally so the laptop does not stay in balance. Very bad. I would rather go with the non-ultralight version which should be more stable.

Yes! Also, the HP EliteBook 840 G10. Only issue with HPE 840 G10 is the brightness is still low (250 nits) for most available options. You have to get it customized to get it to 400 nits max.

I bought the 7440. A few big issues for which I'm considering to return it:
    1) It has an M.2 2230 disk. Yes, a ridicously small 22mm x 30mm disk, which a) costs a fortune to replace and b) due to its size lacks DRAM cache so the sustained speeds are awful, specially for writing. This is the type of SSD people buy for their Steamdecks.... but Dell decided it would work fine for a business grade laptop. For comparison, it throws 180MB/s in a sintetic test for writing (1GB file test). Compare that to 1900MB/s obtained on a 7420 with an M.2 2280 drive. 10x faster than the M.2 2230 which goes down to mechanical drive range of speeds.
    2) The keyboard is horrible. Very hard to press, uneven pressure required, and the keys at the right side make a lot of noise, probably due to a faulty screw positioning design.
    3) Its webcam does not work in Linux. In 2023...
Other than that very fast, quiet and cool laptop. But the above may be deal breakers, specially the awful awful keyboard. For comparison I also own a 7420, which is far better.

I agree on the SSD part. M2 2230 are just not as powerful as NVME 2280 SSDs.
Checked Amazon, and the best replacement at M2 2230 is Western Digital SN770M with 5150 MB/s read speed and 4900 write speed. For the M2 2280 Samsung 990 Pro, you get 7450 read speed and 6900 write speed.

Wifi technology is changing the fastest - and for years - so having that service hard-soldered is a big negative to me. It's a powerful machine for basically a Chromebook: "get rid of it every 2 years." Ugh.

Iris Xe Graphics in 2023 is ridiculous...

    • @akin242002
      @akin242002 Год назад +1

True, but the laptop isn't designed for heavy GPU users. This is for office supply administrators, accountants, mortgage/medical underwriters, data analysts, and supervisors/managers. Same for college students majoring in accounting, finance, or economics. All are heavy Microsoft Excel users. Not heavy GPU users.
Dell XPS or Asus ZenBook Pro are better suited for heavy GPU needs. Honorable mention 2023 LG Gram 16-inch.

@@akin242002 I'm trying to find a good device that would replace my old laptop, but it's so difficult to have it all. Either the laptop is light and portable, but not providing performance, then bigger laptops that are heavier and bulkier typically provide more GPU at a cost of mobility. Then there are these amazing 2 in 1 devices, that can serve as a tablet, but again performance... Also 60 Hz for 1500 EUR is bad and everyone will use the screen regardless (unless docked) 😉

      - Graphics and video editing: MacBooks Pros 14-16 inches, Asus ZenBook Pro 14, or Dell XPS 15-17 inches.
      - Business travelers: HP Dragonfly G3/G4, X1 Carbon Gen 11, Surface Pro 9, or M2 MacBook Air 13.5 inches

      - Gaming: Lenovo Legion 5 or 7, Dell Alienware, Asus ROG Zephyrus, or Razer Blade.
