Fancy covered walls cost money. Since TTC doesn't want to significantly increase fares and deal with fare evasion, taxes will need to be increased even more in order to pay for fancy walls on subway stations.
@@djm5687 the cost of tiles is insignificant compared to the entire cost of the project . Look at how bad the Sheppard stations look. Or how the otherwise beautiful stations on the York extension will look. This is like buying a house and not getting furniture.
@@youbetcha6880 Concrete costs less to maintain. If neccessary, the concrete walls can be covered up at a later time. I doubt that anyone avoids public transit because of ugly walls.

I drove the entirety of the line this week and it’s disheartening to see how far behind the project is. I live in the western most part so it feels like it’s almost finished here, but the central portion of the line looks like the west end 2-3 years ago. 😔

from what ive seen kennedy, science center, keelesdale and mount dennis are the only near-complete underground stations. the rest are either holes in the ground or just got their skeletons built
@@Skyfoogle I agree. I had to drive my mom to a doctors appointment today and we drove past the stations Bathurst, Oakwood and Dufferin. With the exception of Bathurst, the skeleton at those stations were up and being worked on. This was a big improvement over what I saw last week. Once the station skeletons go up, it makes a bigger impact. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looks.
If you go on the crosstown website it tells you which stations have public washrooms. I’m not sure about this one but the interchange stations have washrooms.
Anyone know what's gonna happen to the 32 Eglinton West bus once Line 5 Eglinton opens? Will it end up looping between Mt. Dennis Stn & Renforth Stn? It wouldn't really make much sense to remain as is like the existing 85 Sheppard East bus & the Line 4 Subway. It probably wouldn't also make sense for the 34 Eglinton East bus to remain as is because the whole idea of the Eglinton Crosstown is to get from one part of Eglinton Avenue to the next more than 50% faster than existing bus service on both 32 & 34.

@@danny200mph5 it should've been light metro. building the eastern portion elevated instead of at street level would've only added around $200M to the cost and would improve the entire line substantially.

I disagree. They got the names bang on, as far as I’m concerned. I did a highschool urban geography project in the 90s which included the Eglinton Subway and I gave the stations similar names to what we have now… keelesdale, Fairbank, Forrest hill… the names are perfect.
Whatever, “Keelesdale” Is better than nothing (I guess) but Fairbank should be called “Dufferin North” and “Forest Hill” should be called “Bathurst North”

Why such a mammoth station for what is basically a streetcar stop? Seems like a colossal waste of money, not to mention a huge incongruous eyesore in the neighbourhood.
@@Skyfoogle I'd rather have parking there than bikes lanes. Parking is helpful to the small businesses on Eglinton. But if the city desperately wants bike lanes, they should do something similar to what they did on Danforth. But this area is rly far from downtown so I don't really see the need for bike lanes.

Are you talking about the surface level stops east of Science Centre or the underground stops east of Bathurst?

Living in Ottawa… low floor rail stations, even when they’re underground, just do not feel as substantial as regular rail.
Pretty common in Europe. Just look at Porto in Portugal etc
