LRT in Toronto. Amazing. Remember the time when the subway can only go as far as Eglinton and you can drag your cow further north across the road with nobody honking !
Congratulations on your test run. By watching this video, I want to say that I'm super excited to see when this project is fully finish. Big shout outs the Metrolink and the team for doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
Any one remember when this project started??? It take so long to get here. People's from the Eglinton and surounding are very happy to have the normal live back.
Great job, Crosstown Team! Looking forward to catching a glimpse of a test train when I’m next in T-dots-and I look forward to hopping aboard a Line 5 light rail vehicle when the line is finally in service. (-:
Okay so when will this be ready? When the construction first began; signs ALL OVER Eglinton stated Sept 2021, but I read that they’ve constantly postponed the opening, and now it’s in 2022. Is this true?
Are there plans to fill the track bed with either gravel or grass? Many cities that have rapid transit routes on the surface don't leave it bare concrete, unless it's a bridge or something.
New York already has a robust subway system, so there is no need for streetcars. Busses are also cheaper, more versatile and use *existing roads* without the need for extensive "testing".
Loose nails, damaged steel, the weight of trains vs. the road, bad installations, and signage + visual issues between cars and pedestrians need to be tested. On top of that, the trains need to be pushed and TTC operators + dispatch have to be in sync before opening with a required amount of hours recommended by the manufacturer.
Why did the vehicle need to be delivered by truck instead of being driven right on to the line? Are the tracks not completed all the way to the Eglinton Maintenance Facility?
The rolling stock had to be tested and then shipped from Kingston, the rolling stock was not built in Toronto so truck was the only way for them to get there.
Wait, what? I toured that facility a few years ago with my family, and also toured a couple of trains parked there. So, if these are the first vehicles delivered, what trains did we tour back then?
Do you know another Eglinton Crosstown? I think I know this countries big (and smaller) cities well enough to know main or important streets. There are only a handful of citiesij Canada that have LRT’s.
These vehicles are simply black Flexity streetcars. Line 5 should be the 505 streetcar, and the existing 505 Dundas streetcar should be renamed 513 or 514
I suspect as the line is not yet (officially) active the other track was probably not availlable for whatever reason. So, it´s no big deal running a single unit against the regular direction. In particular if track blocks and signals are not active yet. No danger for anyone ...
Even after this is constructed and traffic can resume as normal on Eglinton, I am scared of all the condo development that is going to happen along the LRT line. It will be another decade until things feel a bit normal and not like your on a construction site surrounded by immense traffic all the time.
The vehicles are grey because they are owned by Mextrolinx, not the TTC. Also, Metrolinx wants them to resemble "LRT subways", rather than what they really are: streetcars.
Look at how small they are. Guys, am I wrong or are these the a little too similar to the current rammed-to-capacity streetcars in the city. I know that have a some increased capacity, but is this really the vehicle that is going to provide the service needs this city needs in the future? As someone that crams themselves on the to St Clair streetcar daily, I'm concerned that the more densely populated Eglinton line will overwhelm these LRT's in its first year, nevermind decades into the future.
The trains will be coupled (2).. and if the demand is there, the platforms have been built for future extensions to make them into 3 coupled train sets.
@@nanaokyere7141 Yes, and unless I've also overlooked something that means there will be a capacity of less than 500 people per vehicle. Not gonna lie but that seems very, very low to me. I think also there is the comfort level that's being lost here. Obviously I haven't been on these new vehicles, but the current streetcar vehicles are the least comfortable vehicles in the TTC fleet, somehow taking a step backwards from the older fleet they replaced. Again, I'm hopeful they these LRT's don't follow that trend, but from the few interior shots I've seen it doesn't look promising.
@@Humulator If 500 people is the capacity for a car, or 15,000 people/hour is the cap, then that's not remotely future-proofed enough for the growth of this city.
Adding a roof is unneeded, because it's more expensive, makes maintenance harder, and the electronics are designed to be unharmed by water or dust. It looks the same on the streetcars. I think it looks cool personally, but not many people will get to see it anyway due to how high these vehicles are.
It essentially is just a streetcar. The stations are not as close as a typical streetcar line, many stations are underground, and most of the route is on a dedicated right of way. Other than that, "Line 5" is essentially just another streetcar line.
@@hippocreation well that one isn't concicered as light rail but as suspension railway. To see if the vehicles are fit for service.

the tracks are done to fairbank, but it doesn't continue to somewhere where the laird portal is.
Cedarvale and Eglinton Stations are still just “holes in the ground”.
