I guarantee from the day Eglinton crosstown opens, within a few months it'll be suffering from overcrowding. The fact Sheppard will have a complete subway from Sheppard West to potentially Morningside, while Toronto's main east west midtown route will have a glorified streetcar is absolutely hilarious. This should have been a subway from day one. A city like Toronto can't rely on "LRTs"...yes the streetcars can be used as a feeder system, but Eglinton is going to prove LRTs simply can't work in a city like Toronto.
The problems with Eglinton aren't ending, they're only beginning.

man if Mike Harris didn’t let the construction of a tunnel at Eglinton West be filled in even if the line was cancelled, the Crosstown would’ve been a subway with these major grade separation and having smaller tunnels.
Funny that a store in Eglinton Square for wall designs for a subway stations that will never get built in Scarborough while also having served by almost three surface stops. That weird island in between O’Connor, Eglinton, and Victoria Park would’ve been a perfect bus interchange station

A first metro line in HCMC, Vietnam has recently opened in late 2024. The metro has also faced numerous delays due to financing as construction began in 2012 but I'm very surprised that it was managed to be completed before this Eglinton crosstown LRT, despite constructing in 2011. The HCMC metro looks way nicer as the stations are more modern, consists platform screen doors, travels 20km/h faster and the fact it is less than 1/4 the construction cost of Eglinton crosstown is an absolute joke. Most of HCMC metro stations are elevated with some being underground. I don't know if I can call Eglinton crosstown a metro or subway, because it runs like existing streetcar in downtown Toronto. The only thing similar between those 2 railway lines is they're both similar in terms of length.
Clearly Canada is far wealthier than Vietnam. Why can't Toronto construct more metro lines that are elevated in the first place, as they're more efficient of traveling as faster speeds and handling more passengers compared to street cars. And the fact a city in a high income country constructs a construction project slower than a low income country is embarrassing to a whole other level.

I don't think you can confidently assert that the surface section of line 5 will be faster than the bus it's replacing. Finch West is now expected to be just as fast as the bus on that corridor was before construction started, of course with half as many stops, dedicated lanes, and signal priority, which are all lacking for the bus. And in general, surface trams have a pretty hard average speed limit of 19km/h, with very few systems exceeding that value
