As someone that grew watching beauty influencers, it has taken me years to realize that I don’t have to use 1/2 of the amount of foundation/concealer they use, but to use 1/10 of the product they use!! I don’t know how they use so much!!
i love the way that robert points out stuff. like he’s not attacking the person or saying that what their doing is completely wrong, he’s just giving ACTUAL constructive criticism and understanding that some things might just look weird bc of things that are out of control of the beauty guru like lighting, etc.
I think a big difference between Koreans and Americans is that Koreans focus and invest a lot in skincare so that they don’t have to use as much makeup. Americans tend to not really think about skincare because it’s not as exciting as makeup (but because of this, they need more makeup to cover their skin). Does that make sense? I don’t know.
Yes, and i believe it has to do with what you eat as well - like chinese have good skin and hair because of the food and herbs they eat - but like indian/pakistani skin is more prone to acne, has large pores and is oily due to the oily food we eat.
Actually the Chinese hair and skin are not that great. Lived there for a year and was astonished how unhealthy the scalps and people’s complexion looked in Beijing. Only the richest look flawless there. When I went to Korea though I felt like in the land of beautiful robots from the future lol
I could feel Robert's soul getting out of his body while he was watching James, why did you guys made him see this? 😂😂 Poor Robert, you will need a lot of videos of Pony doing her makeup to recover your brain of this mess.
I accidentally stumbled across Robert 2 months ago and I learned soo much, he's a really great teacher. Edit: I could listen to his voice all day, it's so calming
I love it how he mentioned that James Charles doesn't need any contouring. Of course!! He has a great face structure! People do contouring to try to look like that
I think the difference is Koreans (or Asian) makeup trends seem to encourage you to show off your skin and enhance what is already there. American/Western makeup trends seem to make it a point to cover up what's there.
We kinda got it from you? I don't know. But in Asia, I can say for a lot of Asia ppl we really want flawless skin so we do cover up a lot and whenever I am on tik tok I can see a lot of ppl trying to sell their high-coverage foundation/cushion that claims to be able to cover everything from scar to freckles and acnes.
Koreans do the most number of cosmetic surgeries to change and enhance their look, nothing wrong with it but makeup isn't a race and ethnicity thing, it's universal and human behavior influenced from media and norms
Don't know about Asia, but Bobby Brown has a Master Class where she teaches that if you have an even skin, you don't need foundation. Or you can use a small amount of foundation only in places where you need it the most. I do that sometimes, I'll use foundation only on the center of my face, where I have some redness and pores and it looks great, you just have to use the right color for you.
The judging and elimination system on the show is hot garbage, if Robert were a judge he'd make it sooo much better. The current judges seem to make random decisions and never give tangible reasons for liking or disliking something, or say how the MUA could improve for next time.
The problem with beauty gurus is that they're, for the most part self taught. Nothing wrong with that, but you can tell the difference between someone who's a professional and has been properly taught and the beauty gurus.
You can also really tell that beauty gurus often do makeup for the same situation. From what I've seen they do a lot of full glam that looks good on camera, so there's a lot of stuff that just doesn't translate to anything else. They're no doubt often creative and have a good grasp on things like colour but it just never feels like something I could or would apply to myself without looking like an absolute clown
@@stinks7065 This! They are used to working with their face either all the time or most of the time. Vs someone who has worked with all skin tones/types in all different lighting and has a wider grasp on what will work and when. Omg that is so like me. It takes me years to figure out what's best for me. I stopped baking my face. Esp my under my eyes, the end of last year, and my make up is not cakey, and looked natural. I just brush powder lightly on my whole face minus my undereyes.
@@RobertWelsh hey bro from down under . Don't and have never worn makeup. Just absolutley love to watch and expert who knows their shit.. talk. Love the vids . My guilty pleasure on every flight back home to the UK xxx
Pony was one of the earliest beauty influencer, I remember she came up around the same time as Michelle Phan but specific to korean blog before jumping to RUclips. I really love her tips. She and Michelle actually encouraged me to take care of my skin in order to get good results with makeup. No need for lasers, surgery, filler or botox. Just basic skin care. Make up should compliment the natural you, not covering you up completely and turn you to someone else. Violette and WayneGoss too. Seriously, stop with the baking and caking for everyday look. Your face is not a bakery shop.
I am not into makeup so much but I would never tell anyone to stop baking for their everyday look. If there's a certain way they want to wear their makeup (drag, gore, natural, etc), then so be it. Personally, I only wear very minimal makeup on a daily basis (eyebrow pencil for my sparse brows, concealer for my dark under eye circles, and tinted lip balm for my very pale lips lol). Anyway, just an additional information, baking has been existing for as early as ancient egypt :0 surprising, right?

i love the way that robert points out stuff. like he’s not attacking the person or saying that what their doing is completely wrong, he’s just giving ACTUAL constructive criticism and understanding that some things might just look weird bc of things that are out of control of the beauty guru like lighting, etc.
When you watch a clip, immediately turn to the camera and say “Erm.. don’t do that” 😂
Best believe I am never ever going to do that.

First of all, he’s a man and second it’s a scar.

OH!! That just made soooo much sense ! Thank You
I think the American makeup look is just starting to go out of style
Actually the Chinese hair and skin are not that great. Lived there for a year and was astonished how unhealthy the scalps and people’s complexion looked in Beijing. Only the richest look flawless there. When I went to Korea though I felt like in the land of beautiful robots from the future lol
I think it's more about standing out and creativity
“Makeup has a theory” needs to be on a shirt, mug etc.
😂😂 that’s a great idea!
I’d wear that 😭🙌🏼
I smell a merch idea! Lol
I would genuinely buy that 👏😂

Do you know what video he was watching I wanna know the song that was in the video
I could feel Robert's soul getting out of his body while he was watching James, why did you guys made him see this? 😂😂
Poor Robert, you will need a lot of videos of Pony doing her makeup to recover your brain of this mess.
I accidentally stumbled across Robert 2 months ago and I learned soo much, he's a really great teacher.
Edit: I could listen to his voice all day, it's so calming

I love it how he mentioned that James Charles doesn't need any contouring. Of course!! He has a great face structure! People do contouring to try to look like that
yeah
Nikkie smacking foundation on her face and Robert's heart almost chocked.
They use tape and contacts and they bleach their skin.....not all but some
Scar wax on the nose?
Koreans do the most number of cosmetic surgeries to change and enhance their look, nothing wrong with it but makeup isn't a race and ethnicity thing, it's universal and human behavior influenced from media and norms
Don't know about Asia, but Bobby Brown has a Master Class where she teaches that if you have an even skin, you don't need foundation. Or you can use a small amount of foundation only in places where you need it the most. I do that sometimes, I'll use foundation only on the center of my face, where I have some redness and pores and it looks great, you just have to use the right color for you.
Petition for Netflix-Glow to take Robert as one of the judges, or guest judges, or at least the host 🙌
Monica Silalahi you mean Glow Up right? Although I think it’d be fun to see him in a show about women’s wrestling in the 80’s too! 😂
@@jemorjerrica yup. Glow up. I'm hooked with all the talents in the first season (though I wish Belinda picked as the top three instead of niki 🙄)
@@kaylani550 ive never seen anything about that show!! Ill look for it! Thanks!!!!❤😙😉😍
No shade to influencers, but unless you look like them and have a similar body chemistry you can't take their advice at face value- no pun intended
How can anyone be sick and still look this good...

Omg that is so like me. It takes me years to figure out what's best for me. I stopped baking my face. Esp my under my eyes, the end of last year, and my make up is not cakey, and looked natural. I just brush powder lightly on my whole face minus my undereyes.

You should really do a "dummies guide to contour" like showing how to enhance the different shapes of faces, I personally would love it ❤❤
Asia De Martino yes please! Cause I don't even know what face shape I have 😅
he did one video about brozing maybe even contour(I dont remember) for different face shapes
omg agreed!
YES PLEASE
Pony was one of the earliest beauty influencer, I remember she came up around the same time as Michelle Phan but specific to korean blog before jumping to RUclips. I really love her tips. She and Michelle actually encouraged me to take care of my skin in order to get good results with makeup. No need for lasers, surgery, filler or botox. Just basic skin care. Make up should compliment the natural you, not covering you up completely and turn you to someone else. Violette and WayneGoss too. Seriously, stop with the baking and caking for everyday look. Your face is not a bakery shop.
missfairuzadotcom it's funny that you say tha cause I'm looking at the video and her eyelid looks like it was done by surgery
@Flower Petal makes sense
@@mzhao7650 cosmetic surgery is huge in Korea but they seem to do it really well. I saw a doco where lots of parents buy their child surgery (especially eyelid and nose) when they turn 18 so they get better jobs and marriage prospects.

Alaa Atari 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 I totally agree!! He can’t even match his foundation! 🤣 n like not even where it’s just a lil off. It’s always SOOOOO different than the rest of his body! 🤦♀️ I have heard him admit he can’t do it well n tries to just hide his neck so it’s not as noticeable but still - don’t act like ur the most amazing MUA when u can’t even match ur foundation shade. 🤦♀️
N, like u said, he edits his photos so much that it’s flawless n looks amazing, but it’s never really like that!
