12:42 is still my favorite. They were just so damn _proud_ of their #1 status, and the music reflected that--simple and yet building to a triumphant crescendo.
I'm aware of the fact that ABC used to have a record company. ABC Records had distinguished artists on its roster, such as pianists Ferrante and Teicher, legendary rock group Three Dog Night, country icon Barbara Mandrell, and opera singer Beverly Sills.
“Watched by more people than any other television network.” During the 1970s-and, I expect, other times-ABC was third. The statement seems to not match the facts. (Ah, but who worries about ratings numbers, anyway?)

Is that the reason why they had that one for a couple years?

ABC was born from one of the two NBC networks. This is America’s Broadcasting Company.
They should bring back the "colonial" style logo with the eagle & lightning bolt in its beak when ABC celebrates it's 80th anniversary in 2026. 🥳

Tommy Roe and early Steely Dan were on abc records. There was also ABC Dunhilll that had Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, and The Grass Roots.
ABC also dabbled in the movie business back in the 50's with Paramount Theaters. Didn't last long, though.
