Yeah, you are the first one saying clearly that an optical snoot can be used with a strobe light as long as the condenser chamber is large enough to host the flash buld and the pilot lamp. Thank you sir !
i just pulled the trigger on the Godox SA-17 and the Sutefoto P80RGB a few days ago, and used them in my Holiday shoot last night.....Mannnnnnn that was one of my best purchases in a while, definitely stepped my game up! will be posting some BTS soon... Thank you!!!
Hey Manuel, thank you for your video. I've actually never taken photos with a Canon before and I ordered the Canon 50mm for my opticalspot. I was about to send it back because I couldn't set the manual focus. But then I saw you pull the lens out! :D You saved the day for my shooting tomorrow! :) Thank you! best regards from Germany
Thanks, Manny. I recently purchased the SA-17 and a bunch of accessories initially based on your video. I use it pretty often, it does, however, get super hot, as you mention here. The cropping blades and the Gobo holder on the Optical Spot look much easier to use, but I don't know if I can justify the price difference to upgrade.
I love the projectors. I"m glad to see they are finally producing these at an affordable cost vs having to search the internet for the Profoto one and making it fit your strobe. Love the looks you get using the projector.
Man don’t know why your not at a million subscribers your knowledge and inspiration is energetic and transforming as well as motivating, I never thought about photography the way I do now I was just going do video and cinematography but I’m now invested in this cause of your knowledge
Good tip with the 50mm canon lens for the Optical Spot. I have that one from Rollei. And the beam really is far too small. I tried this holding my Sony 50mm in front, but that did not work, absolutely nothing to see. Why would it be different with the canon 50mm?
Hi Manny, Firstly thank you for all the content you share... I got very useful ideas from your video. Particularly this one help me to find the perfect snoot for my Godox 600 pro, with the external lamp. Thank you from Spain. 🙂
I love this and want to buy a kit, but I’m so confused. I’m totally new to mounts and how they work. I am currently working with the Fuji X-H2, 16-55mm, a Westcott fj80ii, and a Westcott Octa-M Rapid Box. Can you please provide a link (s) to what exactly I must buy? Any help is greatly appreciated!
It'd be great to get a comparison with the Strobe Pro projection modifier. That accommodates strobes, so we can shoot at f10 and 200 ISO. You can use Canon or Nikon lenses on it.
Looks great manny- I love the optical spot and want to buy it! - At "19" seconds into video-What side blue lights are those? I like how saturated and love to know what LED they are? Thanks so much!
Would love to see you get your hands on the Tamron 35-150 f2/2.8! I'll likely buy one but until I can afford it, your opinion and review could likely increase my excitement to get it
0:54 - Dude! Thought you were gonna break the glass dome there 😶 Already have this product on my wishlist to pair it though with a constant light though. What I wanted go ask about, it says on the website that it handles only 100w COB LEDs and 600w strobes. Is it BS the ratings when it comes to constant lighting?
Manny, I have SK400II lights from godox, and I feel like the modeling bulbs will fit, but I'm curious if you happen to have those lights and had happened to try that combo
I have the godox version and buying it without knowing it wouldn’t fit my FJ400 was a shock…bought the FJ200 and it works great. Biggest complaint is the GOBO holder it’s a horrible design and never threads right. Having said that being able to use hard light like this though opens up so many possibilities in the studio and is so much fun.
HI Manny! Thank you very much for this very informative insight. Would you use a continue light source on the gobo and flash on the other lights or do you think it can also be used in a great way if used with flash? Thank you :)
Can we consider the Godox AD600pro all in one ? can we use it indoor and outdoor, flash and continuous light ? Does the snoot of Godox AS-17 works with AD600Pro? which do you advice the AD600Pro or AD400pro or AD300 PRO thank you so much which better snoot for AD600pro or AD400Pro
Hi Manny I'm using the Westcott optical spot, which shorter focal length canon ef lens do you recommend for smaller distances in the studio? The 150mm that comes with it requires too much distance for me for some applications, and I bought a cheap canon manual focus lens 35-80mm but the glass width is so small it blocks a lot of light.
Great Video and comparison. I have the Rollei version which looks pretty much the same like the Westcott. Now my question, are the gobos from Westcott and Godox are the same diameter? Do the godox once fit into the Westcott mounting ring? Want to order some more gobos and don’t know if they fit. Would highly appreciate your recommendation.
lights become hot thats standard, even barnyards do get hot. In my univeristy, when working with lights you need gloves to protect yourself from hot surfaces
@@reneweisz9157 it's not really the Bowens mount, thats an issue. It's more an issue of recessed (e.g. some Profoto, don't know who else) vs. exposed/domed flash-tubes.
@@andikunar7183 sorry for the confusion, you are correct it has nothing to do with the mount, mine happens to be a bowens mount but it is the flash head that it to large and doesn't fit

Great video, thanks. Any comparison of the two on their light-loss? I use the Godox with a Bowens to Profoto adapter on Profoto flashes. And it „costs“ approx. 3.5 stops. Any thoughts on the Westcott with a 50mm? How moch light do you lose?
Is there anyway you could make a video if u haven’t already on what is main or cheap version of a beginner camera bag and studio and cheap stuff to do kool things with and lighting that cost less? By chance thank you love ur videos❤
PSA: if you are going to use Canon glass on the Optical Spot just know the lens has a memory. So, the last aperture setting you used is what will remain. The Optical Spot will not work well unless the the lens attached was last used WIDE OPEN on the Canon. f8; f10; f14 etc will not allow enough light through the spot for it to work properly. Manny: quick question... using gobos with the Optical Spot I'm not sure I followed your comment, is the gobo holder loose in the Optical Spot ? Thanks
I have pretty much the same thing and I can answer your question (bought this thing like a year ago on amazon for 230 euros). Gobo holder is loose. I thought this is a problem, but worked out for the better because it's possible to change gobo angle on the fly. you can change the angle by about 80 degrees to the right and about 80 degrees to the left
