    I like this product, but Godox has had this technology and similar attachments for years, not to mention for a cheaper price. i would highly recommend looking into the Godox versions and review them. I think you would like them just as much.

      @FStoppers  2 года назад +4

      Yeah I'd love to try it as well. These "technology" isn't really new as the greats have been using them in the 80s and 90s but I just loved having a reasonably priced one for Profoto. -P

      @FStoppers  2 года назад +3

      @@JeffBennionPhotography yeah I read that article! Always good to get opinions from someone who has them both side by side. I can’t imagine using the Godox one if the Gobo isn’t easily tweakable like you suggest. That “V” image you created is so awesome! -P

      @@FStoppers I have the gobo kit and lenses for the godox attachments. It's extremely easy to create that V effect, and they have multiple patterns to use on as a gobo. The Lindsay Adler version sounds pretty cool though with the Canon Ef mount, which means I can get the Metabones Adapter and use all of my Sony lenses with it. Definitely interested in trying out some day. Maybe I will make a video using the Godox Version that I have.

    • @JeffBennionPhotography

      @@RyanLImagery The part that was the most difficult for me was getting it done precisely with a subject who would move slightly and then suddenly, it's not where it needs to be. So, if yo are shooting people, being able to have them stand still for 5 seconds vs 20 seconds is a big issue. The Godox and Westcott gobos are interchangeable though. Exact same size.

  • @DerrellDover
    @DerrellDover Год назад

    Have you looked at the Paul C Buff version? Only capability they don't have is using the Canon lens and the "barn doors" are not permanently attached. They come with the Gobos and color gels included and much cheaper ($380.00). With the Link & Celestial units, color domes, one of my favorite light modifier.

    • @rockroom777room3
      @rockroom777room3 Год назад

      The draw back is Buff's mounting system - the adapters for a bowens mounts etc - don't fit exactly - I sold all my Buff lighting and modifiers because of the weak mounting system Buff has.

    Btw if you are using foam core and you want a sharp edge, bring your light closer to the foam core or bring the Foam core closer to the subject.

    you might want to learn more industry standard names for the things you are talking about. by the time you said "Gobo" i was surprised you knew the term.

    • @kurtlindner
      @kurtlindner 2 года назад +2

      Gobo and cookie (cookie is short for cucoloris) are both long industry standard terms.
      You might hear cookie more often when referring to something larger, in the 2'x3' or 4'x4' range but they are the same thing.
      You could even use a plant _as_ a cookie or gobo and it's not incorrect terminology -but it's still a plant.

    I had an old 75-300 EF lens that I used instead of the lens that shipped with the unit and that allowed me change the zoom in/out the projected mask images to fit my needs. I also used an inexpensive extension tube which allows me to get very close to the subject (i.e. I used the extension tube to shrink the size of the heart shape mask onto a models face and highlight her T zones). All in all very handy particularly in product photography.

    thanks for the detail of this optical spot. question: for adding the color gels, does it snap on or screw on to the end of the included 150mm lens? also, if i have EF mount Canon lenses, what mm size is the adapter for the color gel? i get the impression it likely can be used on other EF mount lenses, but would need to be the same size as the color gel adapter.

    Also have this on my wishlist, but I've read that supposedly it's meant to withstand only a 100w COB constant light, but I've seen people like Manny Ortiz mount this on a 300w COB light.
    I'm curious if there is a tested limit it can withstand because I'd like to mess with this with a 500w if possible, not at full power always, but maybe above 250w and not worry about melting or breaking the lens.

    • @kurtlindner
      @kurtlindner 2 года назад

      If you're using steel gobos it should be able to handle a 500w cob light -but it will get too hot to adjust with your hands, have oven mits with you, regular grip gloves might not be adequate.
      The only real concern is the lens cracking due to the temperature differences, but it's easily replaced for minor expense.

    • @JeffBennionPhotography
      @JeffBennionPhotography 2 года назад

      Curious to see what you would do with 300w or 500w that you couldn't do with 100. When I tested the godox one, I used a 60 watt light, but now I use a 100w light and I don't really feel that I need more than that. I was shooting at 1.8 though, so maybe if you need to have a different depth of field, but I've never really seen an image where you are covering half of it in shadow patterns and everything needs to be in in the focus plane you'd get at f/8. I think also hitting a model with 300w of light is pretty harsh for a constant light.
