I'm a Korean raised in LA and been all over the world. The realest people I know are LA Chicanos
Gracias se aprecia mucho
What do you mean exactly by being the realest people? And with all due respect to you and to the LA Chicanos, I doubt you've been all over the world..
@@SenpaiDaT I'm not going to waste time explaining myself or try to convince you. All due respect
@Amuro Ray not really actually. I didn't know about chicanos before this video. I'm not from the US that's why. It's just that this guy pretend he has been all over the world and have seen it all and that's a little bit too much of bullshit. I have only respect for you guys even If I don't know you that much.
Gracias hermano
Nike Cortez are the West Coast version of the Air Force 1- For Example (Most Popluar Kicks people wear in New York are Timbs & Air Force 1 and in LA are Chucks & Cortez)
Have to reverse that. Cortez were out first.
Cortez is the most gangster shoe
They both are shitty shoes
Yeah but in Cali back in the 90s its not like everyone was wearing Cortez, people were scared to wear Cortez cause they were associated with gang members, alot of people that act like they were wearing cortez back then, really weren't. Taggers mainly stuck to Reebok Classic and the occasional tag banger might wear Cortez. But Cortez were mainly a gang thing in Cali . But now days everyone wearing cortez , since the gang violence at what it used to be.
For some but for others it cost people there life’s so you’ll see Me rocking af1s in the west
I’m from a country called Bhutan 🇧🇹 but love Chicano culture.

Thats why most Chicanos will forever fuck with Pac... He seen beyond the bullshit. Beyond the shit that tries to devide our Cultures. He showed Mexican Americans love and respect. Black love, Brown Pride!
Agree homie, I’m a Mexican American, we absolutely love 2Pac, black and brown together, we are unstoppable, and we make beautiful babies 😉 🤜🏿🤛🏽
Pac had love for us spanish people...he loved Puerto Ricans when he was in NY & shouted us out in "Old School" from the Me Against the World CD & told Angie Martinez the same in their legendary interview...& obviously Mexicans in "Live & Die in L.A."
@@lucianoloya703 2pac had love for Mexicans not manny black rappers say that
My very first pair of NIKE's were Cortez... Loved them ever since childhood. Makes me proud of the culture behind the shoe.
I was born in east LA but had moved when I was young my father is Mexican American and my mother is white ever since I was young I had seen the black and grey tattoos, lowriders, Dickies, Cortez and white tee as normal but I had gone to a all white school my whole life and was discriminated against for the way I had dressed and they never understood. I love my culture and I am not ashamed of where I am from.
I’m Asian and grew up in the Mission in San Francisco in the late 70’s. Yes, I became a cholo around 1978 with all my homies after we watched Blvd. Nights. I didn’t live on the projects but I hung out there and there was one a half block from my house. I got out of the scene bc it started getting rough and friends were getting more into the gangs and doing the stuff that young gangsters did back then. So after 3 /4 years of being a homeboy, I got out. Plus the rest of the world was going GQ and I said to myself, even tho non of my friends were going GQ, I went for it and changed my image. Of course my friends didn’t understand my change and went from Dickies to designer jeans. So I got a pair of white, red and blue Cortez around 1982. My old homies were like what the fk is up with your new look and what kind of shoes are those?’ Funny now that the Cortez is the Homies choice sneakers in the 90’s.
So I say, don’t let ppl. judge you and your style bc 10 years later, they might be claiming that these are the dope shoes that reps the hood. Not easy being different and trying to be original. Same with being GQ, 8 to 10 years later, I started seeing the homies starting to get GQ.
Yo, Mission D representing, pretty much the same years but different details. Those where the good ol' days before gentrification !
Man the Chicano life style is fresh I grew up around Chicanos much respect and love to how y'all keep it real
People quick to jock los angeles chicano stilo/culture but dont want to stop and truly understand the daily chicano lifestyle/struggles like police discrimination and prejudices and negative stereotypes and profiling and constantly getting rejected from society. Not all of us chicanos have negative attitudes, self hate, we aren't all stupid street thugs/bullies/drug addicts, etc. A lot of us search/strive for a good woman to love us for who and what we are, a happy family household, a well paying 9-5 full time job, and we strive for peace, love, respect, and unity in our barrios/communities. 1 love
You can go just show much respect

Sounds like the every struggle of black folks who have been through worse

Especially black people. Every one copy us, especially the gang culture side, but don't know what living in tha hoodz like.
Damn I miss South Central Los Angeles East Los Angeles born and raised but moved to Arizona in 1998 I wanted to do the family thing but every chance I get I go out there and show my kids where I came from and I try to show them my heritage a lot of people hate on L.A out here but they don't understand and they never will I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT LOS ANGELES STILL REPPING OUT HERE IN BUCKEYE ARIZONA WITH MY 501 JEANS WHITE TEE
🔥🔥🔥WAS IT REALLY THAT HARD??!! FINALLY MEXICANS/CHICANOS GET THEIR PROPS!!! I'm STILL waiting for NWA to get called out!!
I’m proud to be first generation Mexican American in LOS ÁNGELES ! My parents worked 2 jobs to give us what we had . Loved this 💜

Been into the Chicano styles since early 90’s. Being Aussie n all every body was listening to Cypress Hill but didn’t know truly where they came from. My Bro ran his Hiphop shop in the early 2000 distributing Tribal Gear clothing n Beyond the DVD’s, Has G
I'm from Durban 🇿🇦 but damn the LA dress code is hard to let go, from the 90s growing up. Now I battle to get clothes like good All Stars Van's Dickies and Levi's. I wish I could hook up with someone who can send them down so i can sell them online, partnership obviously.
Mr. Cartoon should have a WHOLE line of Nike Cortezs. His art style to me is on par with Warhol, Basquiat and other World reknown artists. I've loved his style since I first saw one of his articles in a tattoo magazine in my teens. After watching the Netflix special about him and Estevan grew a greater appreciation for both. If given one man to give me a tattoo it would be Mr. Cartoon.
I just bought a new pair today. OG Cortez 🏁

These artists are amazing. I wish they could bring the art to our community
Our cultura is so beautiful!
I was 12 when I got my first pair of G Nikes. I was the only Flip weren’t them back in NorCal. But all the homies were Chicano. Fast forward 32 year later I’m still rocking them and buy multiple color ways.
I remember just last year going into a footlocker. This young white employee comes up to me and said I see you like cortezs.
I said fool these G Nikes and these are like my 100th pair in black and white homeboy lol
Did you feel funny about buying them? At first I avoided buying them due to the association they had, but eventually I did.
Nope I was a banger back then so I already knew I had to have them. But I still rock them . Now mainly when I run tot he store etc. I even got the stranger thing in red and white leather.
But if I’m going out or anywhere I normally put in some fresh J’s
@@DitchPickler yeah, they looked g.. The funny thing ppl were already associating them as "Mexican" in the early 90's n I was embarrassed to buy them, but then I saw the black homegirl wearing them n felt like that was obviously a stupid thing to think. Eventually I felt the same, had to have them n they were my favorite kicks for awhile.
I’ll love G Nike’s till I died and love them even more when the Nike outlets have them for $39.99 lmao
No denying chicanos put a stamp on the them and started a style. But they didn’t event the shoe. I mean I didn’t go buy all Ben Davis, dickies and flannels either.
White American is easy to judge a book by its cover. But I don’t blame them cus normally when you do a see a person that looks like a banger outside Cali even in Cali they are lmao
@@DitchPickler it ain't even just Gringos tho.. Sometimes it's even Mexicans themselves judging. I ended up liking the whole style, with khakis, Pendletons, etc..
Thank you for paving a way for the raza and for the future 🤎💯 Raza Unida Brown Pride Till I Die Love & respect from Ariza 🔥 🌵

Too bad most youngsters nowadays wanna be something they’re not. I understand times change and styles do too, but we should never be ashamed of what we are. ✊🏽
This is the problem i have, im 15 and i dress like this becase it makes me feel comfortable and i feel like myself when i dress like this.I know ill get shit because of it but i want people to respect me by who i am and not because of how i dress. But it seems alot of kids now think im a wanna be cholo or something like that when in reality i Dont bother anyone and im just myself.
@@korbz34 I was referring to the youngsters that are ashamed of our culture and try to be something they aren’t. Keep your head up carnality.

Beautiful work
I watched you in an interview say how much you loved doing what you do and it’s very inspiring as if we don’t love what we do creatively, it should not be an option especially when you have learned the life lesson of this already.
I love what you do with the palm trees because there must be more in El Sereno than Beverly Hills or at least it felt that way for some years back
Thank you for sharing your work as you really do something that is heartfelt if I were famous I’d want you to tell my story.

Nicely done Mr. Oriol, cool azz footage. Salute from that Lone Star State to all the Raza out in Cali! No doubt LA is known for that Chicano Lowrider/Arte scene. Here in TeXas, we Chicanos got down in our own TeXas way.
Csnt hate .. no matter what u want to say . I'm not from Cali.. biut ido appreciate things that make me who I am today . .... Chicano is a brother hood.. I love my people..
Can someone please tell me every song that came out on this documentary
They said the return of the Cortez! The Cortez has never gone anywhere, it’s always been here for the chicanos/chicanas from the north to the south, this shoe knows no colors! It’s new to all the little hipsters trying to look cool and fit in. This shoe is definitely and will always be a Classico✊🏽
I Appreciate that this was well put together and well presented. Nicely done.
😉👌
The good ol days stop dressing like that long ago about 2 yrs ago found some of my old G style clothes trashed it all except for my Wayne Gretzky LA Kings hockey jersey kept that probably a collector's item , honestly I hope the style never dies I used to like Ben Davis over Dickies any day, Ben Davis creases were hard and Dickies were thin and all your damn change would fall out your pocket when you sit down , orale from the (559) Fresno shaaaaaaaaow!
Good call on the Dickie's. Never understood why they make the front pockets so shallow.
I live in Phoenix Arizona I got them to my birthday when I was like 23 years old .
Does anyone know the song at 4:32
County red lines baby, miss all my home boys, and girls, East Los.
Thank you mr cartoon and Spanto and 2Tone
i used to live in south gate the best year of my miserable life. independence and otis just north of the tracks and a beautiful home. one my first wife lived at to.
Chicano culture influenced me to rock with Dickies & Ben Davis pants and flannel shirts.💥💥💥
Cortez were made to run fast and comfortable...from cops we turn into track runners. That's what the shoe was made for...
I love black and grey tattoos and big white tees😂

This is what RUclips is all about. Quality content.
Its funny in LA in the 90's only gang bangers would really wear Cortez , now taggers and everyone acting like they used to wear them back in the days. Gangsters wore Cortez and taggers wore Reebok Classics.

I was a tagger and I wore Cortez, Chucks, Filas, Adidas, Pumas and Kswiss

Amen been wearing my Cortes since middle school in Illinois even though I get checked down in Chicago because they consider it gang related but homie I was born in LA and I will never change them I’m Chicano I’m proud of it and but in the Illinois they are too but here they don’t consider them selfs that some don’t even know what it means Il be back in Cali soon

Love Cortez’s.... will always want one will always own one ❤️
Big fan of Estevan and being Mexica a descendent of the Mayans and later the great Aztecas, just wished the Chicanos or the ones comming up growing up know that the Cortez shoe is named after the guy who conquered us... Let's not forget to pass our knowledge in history. Still we wear them. I never understood that. Just my opinion carnales y carnalas
Growing up in the 80's thru the 90's was the best yrs of my life .. wouldn't change it for the world ...thanks for the video...

Funny how a pair of trainers or a style can associate where you come from. Me I come from Manchester England and us Manc's wear polo type tshirts, but the top button must be closed, you cant have the top button open, also a lot of Adidas Samba type trainers. I own a few cortez trainers they are so cool and comfy.
