As an Instinct 1 Solar guy, I’d def consider upgrading to an Instinct 2x, especially due to the flashlight, that is killer. That and having the barometer/altimeter holes up higher and not in the dirt/sweat zone where it gets clogged regularly.
@@CoachMak I actually did! This is my review from ExpertVoice, a few things that caught me by surprise with this watch: 5mo Update: It seems my skin issues have subsided a bit so I’m cropping this up to a me issue and improved the rating. Perhaps it’s just something to get used to. But the sharp ridge is for sure a design improvement and for that I cannot give it a full 5star rating. 4mo Update: The ridge on the optical sensor is irritating my skin much more than the original Instinct Solar. Where that watch had a nicely molded optical lense with large radius, this 2X has a sharper ridge where the body plastic ends and dips down to the optical lense where the sensors are. It’s given my skin an exzema-like rash in this area and as much as I like this watch I hesitate to recommend it due to this. OG review: This watch is the creme de la creme of Instincts. Does all the things. HR/GPS accuracy is excellent. It's lightweight. The torch LED light is amazing! And the battery life, somehow better than before! Amazing in every way except one thing... Coming from the original Instinct Solar (which was perfect for me size wise), the extra 5mm in size is too big for me. I'm regularly hitting the GPS and back buttons when I flex my wrist too much (inconsequential but worth noting). I'd actually step down a size if it ONLY meant slightly less solar capability and battery life. But I'm not willing to sacrifice the better barometric/altimeter port (one of my peevs of the OG instinct), or any of the improved software functions (and the LED TORCH, that is amazing!). So here we are. I still love the watch, trying to get used to the size. The Instinct 2/2S is just a smaller 2X in some ways, but had polarization issues and obviously you lose the Torch. I'll keep the 2X due to this.
I had the first two instincts and the tactics 7 and went back to g shock because I didn’t care about working out anymore. Decided to get back into it recently and was very happy to see a bigger, more crisp display, and FLASHLIGHT, on something less than half the price of Garmin’s “flagship models.” Bass pro shops had it on sale and I had a gift card so I got this beautiful watch for 300 bucks! I love it. The simplicity.
So crazy I was watching the old video you did on the 2 this morning as I was considering buying it.. then this pops up. Didn't even know it was a thing. Thanks man. 👍🏻
Fantastic video. I just got my first Garmin device and the online instruction manual for the Instinct 2X Solar was a big daunting. I was looking for a smartwatch with a long battery life and easy connection to Strava. This watch delivered out of the box. I was pleasantly surprised to see the MTB function tracks my elevation gain. Nothing else I have used does that until I save the ride. I have loved this watch so far and your video was a big help to understand more of the functions.
I was actually thinking on upgrading my F6XPro for a 7XSS or 965, but by this price tag, i might actually go this way! The only feature i wish it had was full navigation! Thats the only feature that makes me think twice about it!
Your reviews on GPS watches are the BEST!! Keep up the great work!! Thanks for doing these as well. Can imagine how much effort goes in making a video with all this analysis let alone your time actually testing the device.
What a watch. good that you took the time for the Led light info. it is definitely the big feature that draws me to this watch. it just has so many use cases
I’m buying it as soon as it’s available in The Netherlands. I’m using the first Instinct Solar for quite some time now and I love it. The only thing I wished for all this time is that it would have been a bit larger 😁
It’s interesting how Garmin could not add the Morning Report and Training Readiness features to the standard Instinct 2 series due to technical issues from what I understand, yet they have it on this watch 🙁 Surely this shows that Garmin can in fact add this feature to the standard Instinct 2?
Awseome review, as always, thanks! I miss only the ECG and the sport mode switch option during multi-sport activities, otherwise the multi-band GPS and the torch are big and long-awaited additions for me, so I will definitely upgrade my Instict 2 Solar. The upgrade from Instinct 1 Solar to the Instinct 2 Solar was worht it (not only because of the new features and sport modes, but due to the stability, way better body monitoring and satelite lock speed,) but this Instinct 2 Solar → Instinct 2 Solar X seems to be a worthy upgrade, again.

Just brought Instinct 2 Tactical for 310$ because it was on sale, and I was pretty sure new model is coming right when the price tag dropped up since I have been doing research on which smartwatch to buy for hikes and so on and prices haven't changed much. Made my mind and then saw it on sale like it was a sign! Yeah the X version has such a great updates but idk, will wait maybe for Instinct 3 or so to upgrade later, since technology wise things move really fast. I Just hope Garmin fixes and gives more attention to software also in upcoming years since sleep tracking isn't near as good as Apples, and maybe they won't be selfish and give updates to all series models they are working on rather than giving full attention to new ones like I2X
@@ecoone5475 I mean if money isn't the issue for you I'd definitely return and get 2 X because I think flashlight is handy tool just two clicks away and dual band gps is great upgrade.
@Cridery yeah it is, but i got the instinct 2 sol. Tac. For around 369 € and the 2X is 500 €... and the 130 € is i think a bit much for a better gps and a flashlight or ?
@@ecoone5475 yeah I'm not sure about it 😅 afaik 2X has better battery, solar generates more battery life, multi band gnss (which I don't know tbh, both multi band and non band have their pros and cons), flashlight and some software features that simple instinct 2 doesn't have yet (hopefully they update it). I'm not returning my 2s tactical order for this since many people still run their first gen instincts and are happy. Will wait year or two or so for instinct 3 since I guess flashlight and dual band gnss will be baseline hopefully. When I think about if 2x tactical was in 350-400 price range I'd return, but now for me and also as you said like 130 euro gap is just too much tbh :D will wait for another model or w/e since technology is moving fast these days and smartwatches industry is fighting each other everyday which hopefully brings out best of garmin.
So many Garmin watches now! Buy one, and it is out of date, sometimes less than a year later. Will not be upgrading. Some of these features should have been on the Instinct 2. Very interesting review, though.
haha i feel the same way. i’ve loved the instinct since version one but i still haven’t bought one because i’m waiting for the instinct 3. as soon as i give up and buy the instinct 2x, it will be released. i’m sure of it.

I bought a Crossover a few months ago. I do love it. I was looking for a hybrid watch. But a few weeks ago, I started to use a mechanical watch with a Vivosmart 5 as daily runners and I only wear the crossover tactical edition when I'm training. I feel a great urge to change the crossover to this one. It has arrived today to Hungary and in a very good price. The crossover tactical was approx 260$ priceyer back then. Financially the change wouldn't be any extra money, the crossover still has a great value if I want to sell it. But I'm a bit concerned about the size. The torch would be a great upgrade!
Hello from Ouray, Colorado. I am going to venture into the garmin smartwatch world. I do want it for the health monitoring. But, I also hike, backpack, and snowshoe quite a bit. So, I currently trying to decide between this Instinct 2X model and the Felix/Epic models. I am currently favoring the Instinct 2X for its price. I do also have an etrex gps and my cell phone with offline maps. So, I haven’t felt the large pull to the higher dollar’d watches. Though, the current garmin sale does make them closer to the Instinct 2X.
great review, considering this model to replace my instinct 1 with. Weight training improvements are very welcome, on the 1 this is useless when it comes to HR monitoring

Hey Nice vid! Genuine question, should i upgrade from a fenix 5+ to a instict 2x or instinct 2 normal??? Greatings from Brasil (Yes we say With an "S")
I’ve been waiting to see if they will add Strava integration or data export from the app so I can fully analyze the data. It’s in the works apparently but no timeline has been given. Soon I hope! Thanks!
@@DesFit Hey Des, thanks for your awesome reviews, quick question: if I'm not into the whole exporting data or integration with other apps, would you recommend to buy the H2000? From the accuracy point of view, like steps count, HR. Thanks!
Does the watch vibrate all the time or only one vibration so far when there is a call notification? It would be nice if we could change it to continuous vibration.
Love my original Instinct, but its starting to die on me... I wish Garmin would future-proof their devices a little better. I'm hoping a 2X will last me for years!
If I had instinct 2 definitely not worth the 2X . My question is if I have an Epix Gen2 should I try the 2X Instinct? Maybe if I want to forget about the charging time 🙈🙏
Nice watch depending on where you are coming from. I wanted to try it as a 2nd watch next to Epix Pro. Cannot stand the quality of the display after amoled on Epix Pro. The watch was in the box back to Garmin in one day.
I’ve always wondered if the max quoted battery life using GPS which is quoted in hours, accounts for the fact that there is going to be a night or two in the meantime.
Just wish they updated the Instinct 2 45mm to the new GPS chipset and did away with the horrible dimples. Its GPS is really not great in tree cover for running.
I bought my instinct 2 Solar Tactical last October, due the newer software, i want it for the extra functions, but in time i don't think it worth the upgrade.
Quick question. Would you consider this or the F6 pro a better choice? I am coming from a gen1 Venu and have had a really hard time reading the screen in bright sunlight. I like the features of the IX2 but the F6pro has some nice ones as well. I am torn between the two. I primarily walk, hike, weights, some swimming or biking, and occasional golf (but never used a watch map, just the distance notifications). My wrist is about 189mm so maybe medium. Both watches are under $450 right now so those are the ones that cover most of what I like. Thanks in advance.
Honestly I would consider the instinct 2x because the fenix 6 pro is a 3 year old watch with Garmin elevate 3 heart sensor whereas elevate 4 in the 2x. Though they have the same price, why would you buy a 3 year old watch compared to a 6 month old watch?
I have the first version of Instinct that is not solar. So the first version has an issues with the the gps the accuracy with elevation. Battert life was not good and also the wrist hr as terrible so i had to bye additional strap. So i recetly bought this solar 2x model and i expect to have more of this things fixed. I even havent tried it yet to see :)
I hate that it has 8 different biking modes but nothing for inline skating 😢 (inline skating has very distinct effort profile compared to other sports)
I have the Instinct 2 Solar. If I upgrade to the 2X, will I be able to automatically transfer all my settings, apps, and widgets; or is this something I have to do manually?
I am interested in a smart watch to track my sleep, indoor running, pool swimming, indoor biking, bodybuilding, Pilates and hart rate in the sauna. I could choose from GARMIN INSTINCT 2X SOLAR TACTICAL (2500 RON), GARMIN FORERUNNER 265 (2500 RON), POLAR GRIT X PRO (2470 RON), SUUNTO 9 PEAK PRO (2400 RON) or COROS VERTIX 47MM - all are kind of the same price in my country. I like the 15 ATM of the COROS VERTIX 47MM and the 10 ATM of the instinct, grit x pro and 9 peak pro compared with the 5 ATM of the forerunner 265. I have no idea which one would suit better my needs. Please help. Thank you!
A color display would not be quite as power-friendly as the monochrome and since battery life is a highlight feature of the instinct series I'm not sure if we'll see that in the Instincts.
Navigation goes to the Enduro 2 since it has full topo and landscape maps. HR accuracy is respectable on both but the Instinct may have a slight advantage due to the band design, but that’s splitting hairs.
Just got my 2X and the gesture mode seems to be really insensitive in that I have to really twist my wrist to get it to come on, on my other garmin's they did not need such an obvious movement, has anyone else come across this?
I'm curious, do any of the watch faces include more than 7 data fields? Watch faces only, not activities. The I2 has 7 max so I'm wondering. I know there are Connect IQ faces that offer more info but usually they don't give all the options like calendar, moon phase in the circle, and training status. Also the he default ones are so much more clear and easy to see at a glance.
I wonder how good the processor inside is ... I have the descent G1 ... and it has some lagging... sometimes, I have to press the buttons twice to register the command ...
guys, should i buy this or Gshock GBD H2000? I do just running and hiking. Heart beat is good thing, other features i dont care much. I like rugged style. Currently owning 2 gshocks (not smartwatch).. Or should I just forget about fitness watch, just go for expensive gshock MTG B3000?

Does Instinct 2x Solar TACTICAL comes with "TRAINING READINESS" ?
I wish 2X features would also include in ordinary one especially the torch. I have small wrist 😥
If they made an Instinct crossover with a flashlight I’d cream
But would you buy it?
@@yapyap333 absolutely
Sorry for my lack of knowledge. But is crossover better than Instinct 2 or it's a mechanical version on Instinct 1.
@@testname2635 it’s mechanical version of the Instinct 2. Functions pretty much the same but with analog arms. I think it looks awesome
The Crossover is the hybrid version of the Instinct 2. More details here: ruclips.net/video/AilT2N02k_Q/видео.html
I’ve always wondered if the max quoted battery life using GPS which is quoted in hours, accounts for the fact that there is going to be a night or two in the meantime.
Do You think It could be a good option compare to the 955 for ultra running (15 to 25 hours)?
Just wish they updated the Instinct 2 45mm to the new GPS chipset and did away with the horrible dimples. Its GPS is really not great in tree cover for running.
I bought my instinct 2 Solar Tactical last October, due the newer software, i want it for the extra functions, but in time i don't think it worth the upgrade.
Yeah man doesn't Worth it
Stay with Instinct 1.
That is good to know. I have instinct 1 solar so will keep it for a while. I use it mostly for biking and hiking.
@@201s i always listen to fornite gamers!
I only wear my instinct when i hike. I got a watch 5 for my edw.
Can’t decide on the Instinct, Forerunner or Fenix
Does the circle on the screen get in the way
Quick question.
I hate that it has 8 different biking modes but nothing for inline skating 😢
(inline skating has very distinct effort profile compared to other sports)
Love the idea of a bigger instinct. I have big wrists and could for sure handle a bigger watch, but I still think I'll wait for a full model upgrade.
I have the Instinct 2 Solar. If I upgrade to the 2X, will I be able to automatically transfer all my settings, apps, and widgets; or is this something I have to do manually?
Manually for settings and apps but your activity history and physiological metrics will transfer over.
@@DesFit Thanks! I am excited to get mine! I just put an order in 😄
It was rumoured that it will be 57 mm but released as 50 mm :)
For the same price instinct 2x or forerunner 265 ?
Des, does this new Instinct have a higher screen resolution than the regular Instinct 2?
Thank you!
The green light is for night vision
A little disappointed it didn’t get a colour display. Oh well, I might still get this as I find my Instinct 2 Solar is just a little too small.
A color display would not be quite as power-friendly as the monochrome and since battery life is a highlight feature of the instinct series I'm not sure if we'll see that in the Instincts.
@@DesFit yeah that’s very true. Always good to have wishful thinking.
Any updates on instinct 3?
Instinct 2x or enduro 2? Wch one would u suggest has better navigation (hiking) and accurate heart rate?
Navigation goes to the Enduro 2 since it has full topo and landscape maps. HR accuracy is respectable on both but the Instinct may have a slight advantage due to the band design, but that’s splitting hairs.
@@DesFit thx a lot
You’re welcome
Will Fenix 7 get some of those new activity profiles? 💪
You could be sure, that the Fenix 8 would be even better, but not at that price tag
Just got my 2X and the gesture mode seems to be really insensitive in that I have to really twist my wrist to get it to come on, on my other garmin's they did not need such an obvious movement, has anyone else come across this?
Hi @DesFit, I have a suunto 5. I use it for gym, surf, cycling, and I'm mad about this Garmin, so can I just go get it, or is there any caveat?
I'm curious, do any of the watch faces include more than 7 data fields? Watch faces only, not activities. The I2 has 7 max so I'm wondering. I know there are Connect IQ faces that offer more info but usually they don't give all the options like calendar, moon phase in the circle, and training status. Also the he default ones are so much more clear and easy to see at a glance.
I wonder how good the processor inside is ... I have the descent G1 ... and it has some lagging... sometimes, I have to press the buttons twice to register the command ...
Wifi access?
guys, should i buy this or Gshock GBD H2000? I do just running and hiking. Heart beat is good thing, other features i dont care much. I like rugged style. Currently owning 2 gshocks (not smartwatch).. Or should I just forget about fitness watch, just go for expensive gshock MTG B3000?
I have the original instinct and was about to pull the trigger on the Crossover. Now I have another option... Which do you prefer?
Get the 2x!
Instinct 2x or Foreunner 265?
Is it possible to get tide info without garmin IQ app?
