Thankfully my mom just doesn't screw around with mobile touchscreen phones, but she STILL has more common sense than my dad on his device. We've had multiple fights that he'd double down and get physical with sometimes about people scamming him out of his money. He's lost $20,000+ within this past year or so. The man can NOT learn how to use the Internet and discern scams to save his life. Wish he'd just throw the damn phone away and get a flip phone, but these devices are definitely as addictive as they are for a reason. No matter the cost.

I think Asmon *wants* to believe everyone else is this stupid. Things being 100% in either direction is very unlikely, considering elders are the most vulnerable to this stuff and we all know bots communicate and comment everywhere. A lot of the comments have very similar typos and speech to the typos that the AI bot accounts are posting but there are a lot of older people getting duped too. Idk what the % is in either direction, but there's definitely a mix of the two.
Edit: People who know they're bots also get baited into engaging with the content to let the "Scammed person" know it's fake. People love to feel smart and correct others when they know something the other doesn't, the creators of the bots are aware of this too and farm engagement off of it, which in turn makes it more popular and likely to be seen by elders/someone who *doesn't* know better.

To be fair, this has been going on for years... The amount of people that watched the old commercials of players like David beckham kicking soccer balls into trashcans, or Ichiro Suzuki drilling baseball bats from centerfield, or the punch through the wall football catches... Basically anything that is BLATENTLY CGI that everyone believes.
I remember when the video of the Eagle swooping up the child in the park went viral and more people believed it was real than fake. We're talking like, early 2010's and this was prevalent.
People have no sense of a few things when looking at video/photos.
    1. The person taking the photo/video and how it's filmed/shot.
    2. The actual physics of the object/person in question
    3. the lighting around the object/subject
    4. The probability of what they are watching happen and HOW it happens, all while being reccorded.
This definitly isn't a new issue, and it'll continue to happen for as long as the internet exists. People just genuinly don't have a single skeptical bone in their body.

I built and upgraded our next 3 computers. My kids....MILLENIALS LIKE YOU....had to have me get them out of trouble when something went wrong on the computer, or they didn't know what they were doing. I thought they were taught computers in school but it turned out NOT about how computers work.
As a result, I have been using computers since their inception for home use (TI-99 anyone?). True, I don't bother with tik tok or Spotify or any of those things (a Boomer friend of mine though is big into spotify) but I know AI images when I see them. While I don't use computers for the trendy stuff of the moment, I edit narrative films on a computer, and spend plenty of time here at RUclips rather than watch TV. I'm usually either looking to see what's happening (not be TOLD what's happening by people with an agenda) and to learn something, often times filmmaking related.
So.....while there are some older Boomers who were not as interested in computers as I have always been, most of us are. It was the new thing......the kind of new thing you knew was going to stay around.....not like the latest "trend."
