Thank You. Finally someone said it. I thought I was the only person to know this. Racism in Canada is very much real but because it’s not violent, or in your face, it’s harder to trace. I, my family and friends have had so many experiences with this type of racism in school and especially in the workplaces. I’m tired of other people always trying disregard racism because they’ve never experience it when many Black Canadians have and btw I was born and raised in Toronto by Nigerian immigrant parents and it was very difficult to assimilate in Canada,!more because of the racism that is lingering at the hands of racist white Canadians. I’m so tired of racism not being addressed in Canada and acting like just because we’re a diverse nation racism is gone. I don’t believe America and Canada are much different in the amount of racism because they just come in two very different forms.

maria valentina Sis lemme tell u something. We have a blm here but it’s definitely not as popular or active as it is in the States which is disappointing because the racism here is no better. Nobody’s doing anything here to really combat it and when I mean “nobody” I mean the people in power and the government. We don’t have black advocates or civil right leaders to speak for us here so we go through racism and prejudice in silence. Which is why you will never hear about racism in Canada when it is very much alive, just in the form of systematic and institutional racism thus why it is harder to trace because it’s not in your face but they do it behind your back unlike the states which I know is a lot more violent so it’s more distinct. Canada doesn’t even acknowledge it and even if they do they won’t set up a sufficient plan to make sure representation of all races is being seen in workplaces and government positions. It’s from the top, we can make those changes, but we rarely have black individuals in government to speak for us. Canada hides behind the “we’re a diverse country” forgetting that that same diversity is not being shown through the system or institutions

I went to school in Toronto in 2014.. One day on a bus I sat beside a white lady and the lady looked at me up n down and scooted over and brushed off herself so I did the same (was young and petty 😂😂).. Maybe there were other times where I've seen discrimination but because I believe that the world is like Disney and everyone is good too I tend to turn a blind eye to it and live in my own little bubble 😂😂..
A question though: I want to apply for express entry and I know they will need a police report, do you think I would need to get a police report for the time I was studying in Canada?

When racists refer to themselves as 'tolerant', it equates to them being two-faced and superficially nice. What they really need to learn is 'acceptance' that no matter if a person has dark skin color or is non-caucasian, the person is still human and deserves to be treated equally with respect.

I experienced this discrimination when I applied of the Canadian Forces. Since I got here all I dreamed about is serving my new home. As soon as I got my citizenship, I marched right away to my local recruiting center. The white recruiter was extremely arrogant. He would look at you like you are beneath him and you can tell it irks him that a black immigrant received a citizenship. I sent my application regardless and that was 4 years ago and I am still in the process till now. Whenever I would call in for an update all they would say is " you are not from here and that's how it works!". Until just recently I found out that it wasn't just also me who had this issue. I've met indians, arabs and fellow africans whose applications were put aside. Apparently the recruiting process itself is designed to segregate colored people and white applicants are a priority. Once the white applicant "quota" has been filled then that's the time they start looking for minorities. This explains why high ranking officials who are part of neo-nazi KKK groups has been caught lately since the liberal government started cracking down.

I lived for 3 years in South Africa, lovely country but sadly, plagued with racism. I've also had short stays in Australia, UK, Dubai and in the Phillipines.
My reactions as I got exposed to racism was at first, disbelief, then shock, then anger, then hatred, then disgust, then i got understanding (long story how i did :) , then I felt pity - for the racist NOT for lovely beautiful self.
Understand that the problem (stereotypes, hatred, misconceptions) exists in the pathetic minds of the racist, so it is their problem, not yours!
I'm convinced that all racists have self esteem issues. Why strive to feel good about yourself by undergrading another - especially based on factors that neither of you contributed to creating? Who created their own green eyes or rich kinky hair? Silly and laughable!
No one created themselves! Who consciously chose which race to be born into?
If the racist wants to compete, he or she should do so based on acquired skills or abilities. That'll be a level playing ground, right?
All who are discriminated against for their race should learn to shake off the filth of those racists. Don't let them get you.
Whether black or brown, yellow or multicolored 🙃 lets walk with square shoulders and heads high!
Garner great skills and knowledge and prove them wrong!!
If necessary, correct the racist with calmness and a smile - show them that two can play the 'pretence' game. In doing so, the racist will look stupid (without you being stark rude) and they will never forget that experience.
Finally, let's pray and be a good model every we go. It's not easy to love the unlovable, but God gives us grace.
    Ciao!

Rasicsm definitely exists in Canada, especially anti-Black racism and racism against First Nations and Inuit people. In general though, I think it doesn't show as overtly as in the US because Canadians love to be able to claim the moral high ground in comparison to white Americans and sort of look down their nose at them. The veneer of tolerance is less present in smaller towns as well.
That said, it's still a great place for Black people to immigrate to. There are definitely many, many tolerant people from all races, and honestly it's easier to get past the microaggressions of a closeted racist than deal with the situation in the US.

When I was arrested and charged, I was denied bail and told by my lawyers that if I did not plead guilty I could be sitting in jail waiting longer for a trial date than the amount of time that they were seeking and that I could be given twice the amount of time or more for not taking "responsibility " if found guilty at trial.
So due to those circumstances, I pled guilty knowing that I was innocent, because I didn't want to sit in jail waiting longer for a trial date than the time they were seeking, especially when prison Conditions can be cruel and unusual and trial dates can be unreasonably delayed and convictions can be wrongful and appeals can be often denied.
I pled guilty knowing I was innocent because I did not want to deal with the stress, fear, frustration, malice, or the confusion caused by systemic racism.
I pled guilty knowing that Elizabeth May Terry (lizzie terry) made false allegations in order to have me locked up so she could steal twenty-three thousand dollars of furniture and electronics from me in retaliation for cheating with her sister. And then while I was in jail, instead of just letting me be so I could move on, she came to court three months later as a crown witness to give a false impact statement to try and keep me in jail longer.
As a victim of systemic racism you do not committ crimes, you just suffer the consequences of crimes like an innocent bystander.
Systemic racism made me the victim look like the criminal and the actual criminal look like the victim. Even when you tell the truth they will make you out to to be the liar and then make the actual liar out to be the one telling the truth.
They will pick sides without knowing the truth or without seeking the truth, and then concoct or make whatever side they think they can make look like the truth.
Everything you say or do they use against you especially in the court of law where everyone in positions of authority are white or have to answer directly or indirectly to someone white. That's white supremacy. Racism, that has been perfected and systematized.
I do not need anyone to tell me that I'm innocent when I know that I am innocent. The video proves I'm innocent. The same video that the judge refused to watch.
I pled guilty knowing that I did not committ any offense, knowing that I was innocent, just to get out of jail and they knew that. Now that I'm out, I take that guilty plea right back. I giveth, therefore I taketh.
I shouldn't have went to jail in the first place. They will lock you up, ruin your life, take everything from you, then release you with nothing. That's racism. They didn't have to lock me up when they knew they was eventually going to release me. They could have released me from the beginning so that I wouldn't lose everything.
What a system. Not only does it tolerate racism, it requires racism. If anyone tells you that justice is in the court or in the law, do not believe it, not in a system of racism.

As we say in Belgium, le Systeme nord américain me fait chier! This is why:
As a European, I find The issue with Vancouver (and Canada are the following):
1.it has become so much expensive while the salaries are so-so
    2. More and more people are becoming like robots
    3. Talking to strangers is not normal!!! For me coming from Europe (Belgium), this is very strange!!!!
    4. Public transport suck!!!! (It is only good enough for people who have never left Canada)
    5. The healthcare service is better than the US but is a disaster when compared to Europe… and even to some African countries (I have worked in west Africa for the French government in the past and believe me…. There u can have access to doctors on the spot.. no wait, no stupid triage systems!!); in fact here in Canada, the system is free but what I don’t understand is that it treats people (including Canadians like crap). Just in March 2022, I remember coming to a clinic and we were told it was full! Another poor elder lady came in (a Canadian) and she was told to visit another clinic… she started to complain as it has been the 6th clinic she had visited and still telling her to go away!!! FREE???? I prefer by far African healthcare (try Botswana or even Senegal!!! You willl be surprised at how bad the Canadian one is!!!!!) and I have included a video at the bottom about doctors in this strange country
    6. If you have a kid with a special need (like a daughter of my colleague at work), a city like Vancouver has just 2 or ..3. Schools for special need children!!! My colleague told me both of those schools love money sooo much and quality services are far from their priority!!! But yes, Vancouver, a big city has just 2’of them!!’ How stupid is that!
    7. Linked with the above, if you have a kid with condition, daycares find a way not to “welcome” then as it costs them a lot or they do not have the ressources!! So my question is: how can both parents work if daycares “refuse” kids like these? And actual even if you have a healthy kid, daycares in BC cost just sooo much as compared to Quebec for example! In the US (a country that Canadians love to point at), such daycare exist to allow parents to look for money!!! Canada, the overrated country… just slap yourself!!!
    8. Same for insurances for cars!!!! In BC it is a monopoly (and a real scam) whereas in Quebec car insurance is way way cheaper!
    9. Many Girls here in vans are interested for most of them… reason: cost of living! Not astonishing why we have so many sugar-papas here.
    10. A society that likes to point out south when it comes to systemic racism when actually it has very few coloured CEO’s or people in high responsibility roles!!! America has race issues for sure but in many instances, Americans are much inclined to give power to a person of colour!!! Why… may be because of the civil right movements in the US…
    11. People here have been raised to get INDEBTED and they are taught to spend, SPEND and Spend!!! The whole North American system is based on debt and banks get rich out of people being in debt!!! I am such in a hurry to fly back to Europe!!!
    12. Unlike Europeans, North Americans and Canadians are taught to be productive, work more and not complain (unlike us Belgians or french). This has made Canadians frustrated in the inside and this frustration comes out under things like abusive language, abusive driving, binge drinking, abusing drugs and even …. Terrible behaviour that are not worth mentioning here as they are terrible to be stated for a country that claims itself to be part of G7!
    13. Pensions are soooo low compared to Belgium or Germany and even if you have RRSP, chances are you won’t save much anyway and cost of living will always be increasing!!! Now, I am not astonishing why so many Canadians flock into medical, Costa Rica or even Argentina!!!! And guess what… so many narrow minded people here want immigrants (yes all of us) to stay up here when many Canadians flee the country! I would leave any way!
    14. People are so lonely and have issues making friends!!! Result: many Canadians are depressed!
    15. Vancouver is gloomy, grey and rainy at least 300 days a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now some still say it is not bad but trust me… it sucks and this is surely why so many are on weed here in BC , not sure how people are in the east though
    16. Their phone companies and internet companies are greedy and their services cost so much! Phone companies here in Canada are crooks and keep sucking money out of customers!!! Plans are scams and those companies are just interested in making profits!!!
    17. Canadian Banks are greedy just like in America! Their online system usually is unreliable and stops working suddenly for any reason! Many times, I tried to wire money from one account to another and many times, this service did not even work!!! Having lived in Western Africa for 5 years, I have almost ever come across similarly things!
    18. People in Vancouver are always in a hurry for nothing and seem to be anxious, nervous and in a bad mood all the time! I have gone to Buenos Aires and Mexico a few years ago but despite the “lower income” in those countries, people seemed to be more joyful and amicable!
    19. More and more drivers are impatient and behave like morons! Once I was s’imposer that I apologized in French (on purpose)! He had no say and Eve if he did, my car is in a bad shape so… I don’t think he would have dared to do anything physical! A few times I honked P-P-P - P-P which is an outrage (go and lick the *** of your ****er in a country I used to live in but which obviously is not in North America. Obviously any abusive driver here would ask himself what the heck but would have no idea even though I know he is aware it is not a compliment!
    20. Unlike places like New Zealand or the US, this country keeps making publicity as having a top quality of life but what quality of life can you get with the cost of living in Toronto or Vancouver????? Unless may be you earn a lot like some privileged Canadians who have bought properties before the “crazy time” or who have huge amount of money to sleep on!
    21. There are jobs but those jobs are mainly low paid (like the one the link below) and low level jobs: cashier, call center jobs, delivery jobs, working inside cold rooms at 5 am, jobs that require you to stand up, deal with lousy customers, jobs that very few locals want to do. Unlike the US employers, many Canadian employers keep using the lack of Canadian experience to refuse you a “good role”. This is why so many skilled migrants are leaving this country! They are being asked for lots of qualifications when applying but once here, many are given jobs that stand so far from their qualifications!!! Result: many are angry (like me) and many also leave or .. plan to leave anyway (like me). So if Canada wants to retain migrants here, they need to tell their employers and corporations to do better jobs with this stupid and useless Canadian experience excuse!
    22. My project: leave Canada as soon as I can as staying here in this strange place is just … a trap! It is a financial trap (you just spend your days repaying credit cards and interests), you just work work work and buy groceries!!!! It is also a emotional trap as people here are stuck up and are so closed up to themselves!!! Many are so anti-social!!! Not astonishing why so many laugh by themselves or talk to themselves in the transit!!!! I thought africa had real problems (as I was working there for almost 5 years) but I think Canada is now getting worse day by day!
    23. This is how the country’s airline company treats its employees www.simplyhired.ca/company/Air%20Canada

INCROYABLE!!!! In Europe, it would probably never happen and I would say Canada does not deserve to sit in the G7 country!!! Smaller Countries like New Zealand or Australia (more efficient than Canada on so many levels, I have heard even though I have ever been there) are probably better candidates!!!
Ohhhh and Last important thing!!! In Canada, if you need an ambulance (sometimes some paramedics would ask you if you need one if you ever get a malaise outside), the ambulance COSTS MONEY (no… in France or Belgium it is FREE!!!) and the persons around you will not tell you it actually costs money. So basically if you fall or get unconscious on the street, they will call an ambulance and a few weeks later, you will get an invoice sent to your address (the amount is around 1,500 dollars to 2,500 dollars sometimes!). If if you can go home by yourself, go home and DO NOT call an ambulance!! You just give them money!

In some cases, I was victim of racism here in Canada and this is what I just did: I speak in French instead to the aggressor; I have done that many times and usually it works; if it is like this indirect form of racism (much more frequent) where a “local” or even sometimes some Immigrants try to look down in me, I just called a friend of mine (who is usually free) and start to chat loudly in french with him!! And believe it or not, my French accent is 99% close to perfection although I do not look like a white French guy… but see… this is exactly why it is very amusing as you can barely imagine how most people act by seeing me talking in French!! Just say something like “… je reste pour une année en plus ici au Canada (make sure you say Canada to attract their attention) Et après je bouge sur Paris….”

Same thing happened to me. I am from Florida and when I moved to NYC in 2002 I experience more discrimination there as a Hispanic than in Florida and also than where I live now, Arizona. NYC is very racist. They think Hispanics are slaves or something. It's pretty sad but most of the racism I experienced in NYC was from people who were either not White or not from the USA. Even Hispanics like Dominicans gave me shit. My family is from Peru BTW.

IF YOU are victim of racism:
    1. Take the names of the racist place or club
    2. Rate the club 1 star
    3. Write a review or comment describing the racism
AND IF YOU WANT TO DO MORE
    1. Create a blog and post the videos, and write short but striking comments on each
    2. Make the blog fly by publishing it everywhere!!!
If racism happens in the street, use your phone and take videos to record the event if you can or take a voice record of it. If necessary, contact a lawyer, it is a better idea than going to see the police yourself particularly in some European countries

One day, many years from now we will have so many different types of dna coursing through our veins that no amount of slander, judgement or racism will shake us. We are all immigrants in Canada. I am a 6th generation Canadian. English, Irish, Scottish, German, French, Norwegian, and Russian is in my blood. Look at the past conflicts in history that these countries have forced on each other. If I were racist I would have to hate myself. I’ve worked with a Jamaican for 4 years and he’s my friend. He is the same amount of canadian as anyone else I know. Im a rather large male and old people are scared of me just because I’m big, people don’t like anything different because they are afraid of it. My hopes for the future is that racism will die with the generations that carry that burden. This too shall pass.

I heard that in Alberta they are not afraid of using the word N.
I feel very sorry for your friend, sometimes people can be assholes, I think the problem is media, as Dwight said, people in north america put every black men in a box, because of the News or a bad person did something and has that profile. I will be sincere, I'm from Mexico and when I see a cholo or chaca I freak out and more if they stare at me, I don't really know his intentions but just in case try to avoid any trouble, but never call them anything just mind my own business. Media makes me paranoid sometimes when maybe something doesn't really happen.
I think some canadian people don't like immigrants, I follow a youtuber from Ukraine and people are assholes with him in one of his videos he said some of his neighbours checked his trash to find something to incriminate him and in his workplace got his email hacked. A Russian friend of his told him that he should not be open with canadians because they nosy to complain about you so is better to be secretive.

The truth is that Canada built a successful, prosperous society without you, while your own people failed. Now you are escaping from your failed society so you can live off the hard work of real Canadians, degrading Canadian society in the process. Why don't you stay in your homeland and make it a success? Don't say it's because you come from an island--why can Hong Kong and Taiwan do it, but your people can't? Why can you only live off of others instead of building anything for yourselves? Hard truth.

Greg Malden so everyone on that plane that was shot down by Iran was on welfare? You sound like you live in a bad part of town; it would explain why you’re surrounded by people on welfare. If all immigrants left, the economy would collapse.
Why is it that in most institutions and academia it seems like Anglo Saxons are the minority? Nobody is forcing them out. Most people in STEM seem to be immigrants.
Again, no need to be obtuse. Just look around, most people in STEM, doctors, real estate are IMMIGRANTS. The Canadian economy would COLLAPSE if you kicked out every non Anglo Saxon. You know damn well I’m right.
