HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 янв 2019
- Turned 15th - 20th December 2018, this weeks woodturning project was a sycamore and oak pedestal bowl.
It was turned in two parts, both using Intrinsic Colours to dye the wood the required colours. The sycamore bowl was coloured using Earth, Honey and Flame colours whilst the oak base was coloured with black.
The bowl was then finished with Hampshire Sheen Danish Oil, Pre-Thinned Sanding Sealer and then High Gloss Finishing Wax. The base was finished with Hampshire Sheen Black Embellishing Wax and High Gloss.

Nice to see your workshop is as messy as the rest of ours. Nice products and great work.
You do good work Thanks 😊
Fantastic pet bowl and cool finish.
I like the way the dark base and light underside make the coloured top ‘pop’ more. A great piece. Thanks for showing 🤓
You threw me there for a minute with the black, yellow, and orange colors, but I was very impressed with the finished product. It looks great!
I have 44-45 sites I subscribe to, that deal in wood turning, wood/epoxy, wood working, wood sculpturing and I must say tor channel is one of the top five. Your explanation of what your are doing, fixing/correcting mistakes (#95), and the use of coloring with different finishes. Overall good set to watch and learn from, thank you for a job well done.
A truly inspiring bowl with a finish to amaze. He has made to look so easy, but the inspiration, imagination and skill to see it done are priceless.
Hi just watch this video, absolutely beautiful piece of work it’s inspired me to be a bit more adventurous.
Go for it!
You are a talented individual that is a beautiful beautiful piece that is something that I would purchase I love the color congratulations that years of understanding the blending of color , I came across your channel strictly by accident subscribed I really enjoy what you do and explaining it to us is part of the joy in understanding how the piece comes together thank you from us in the United States . I hadn’t realized this is a two piece process and while I’m at it I might as well add that only her you would tell her to turn it and come to realize you spend much more time creating unique colors blending the colors together amazing work my friend thank you again .
Thank you for watching and your kind comment. I pleased you enjoyed it and appreciate the time involved in creating a project like this.
This is awesome. I'm new to wood turning. I've only had my lathe since November. I have already created 20 different pieces. But you just gave me a whole new perspective and ideas. THANK YOU. Tim in the U.S.
My lathe is too small to do much other than pens or much smaller projects, I did however appreciate these videos on the bowls and the finishes. I've not done any staining or coloring of the wood I turn - course at the Pen level exotic woods are not that hard to come by, so up till this point (about 4 years) I've just finished up "natural" wood. The oil treatment was fascinating - thank you for the lessons! Dave Roush
Really beautiful shape. Every time you begin to color your pieces I think “Why is he doing that”. But each time I like the finished piece and this was no exception. It is your wood, do what you like to it.
Fantastic work Martin.......I love the way you colour your work in a “natural” way that enhances the grain patterns. Inspiring!
What an eye for colour and decoration you have. Never a dull moment watching you work mate. All the best, keep it coming
I do like most of your pieces you've turned but this has to be my favourite. You have also just reminded me that it has been many years since I've turned sycamore so you've spurred me on to get hold of some. Thanks for sharing.
Im not a big fan of coloring wood, but I have to admit that the piece you have produce, looks stunning.
That came out a treat Martin keep the videos coming 👍👍
Very very nice. I like the shape
Inspirational piece of work again Martin. Another project for my bucket list. Keep up the good work.
That's a fine shape to the bowl, with a good balance of colour. The high gloss from the wax finishes it all off.
Beautiful piece Martin, good to see you back on the box again
Beautiful piece, and great to have you posting turning content, again.
Truly spectacular, I love the depth of colour and visual texture of the grain. Thanks for inspiring. 👊👊👊

Hi Michael. Many thanks for your kind words. It is one of my favourite pieces, too. I have a few more blanks as nice as this one, and am considering something with a lid next time.

How fast will the colour fade?
Beautiful piece
What is the belt sharpener your using, I've had a hard time finding one in like that in Canada?
Amazing work and beautiful color. Thanks for sharing.

Stunning piece, Martin. Currently saving up for my intrinsic colour set and this made me all the more eager. Thanks, as always, for the inspiration. All the best for 2019
Beautiful!
Really nice job, as always you go into detail so that the dummy's amongst us get the message.
Awesome.....love the colors! Wish I could do that!
Amazing. I love it.
I just bought the jig you recommended for sharpening. As a novice i can now sharpen like a pro!
Which jig is this?
Great Communication!
Really, really nice. What a great finish. I’m definitely going to try and replicate that as much as possible. We have an abundance of figured maple here in the US Midwest so I hope I can get something close! Thanks for the great video!
Very elegant beautifully done. 👍🇺🇸
Very beautiful work.
Fantastic!
Very nice as always 👍
Outstanding!you've got a new subscriber and I cant wait to binge watch your other videos!
Like this one so much I had to try a version but with just the colors in the wood. I got out what I thought was a plain blank but it was full of color and quilting. Subscribed because of your finishes but love the channel.
Very different! Very beautiful! I'm a fan!
Very kind of you to say so, John. Thanks for watching.
A sweet bowl Martin.
Gorgeous bowl Martin. I had my doubts about the colour when you started applying it but it's so beautiful. Hope to catch up soon. Teraina ☺️
Great video thanks for sharing.
Really lovely work man, top job :)
Just loved it thsnkyou
Brilliant, Love it, I must make one myself and hope it is good enough for a picture. Ron. UK
Thanks again for watching, Ron.
Great bowl. I would suggest trying a Pre-Stain before coloring as it removes a lot of that blotchy-ness. You will get a much cleaner more even look to your color.
Very very nice 😀
Great colour and figure Martin! You didn't bugger with the rim though!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing, hope you're having a good week.. Full View and Like 418
That’s beautiful Martin, enjoyed watching!
very nice
I really liked this one, very inspirational .thankyou Saban
Nice bowl. You guys in the UK seem to work with sycamore a lot. I often have troubles with sycamore checking.....even blanks that have been sitting in the shop for 2 years. Maybe I get an inferior variety.
Love the grain and shape Didn't care fr the color all that much but congrats on a great....... shaped bowl?!?! LOL
Enjoyed and Thumbs Up
at 17:04 did anyone else look at the base and see the magnetic collars from Wild Wild West with Will Smith and Kevin Kline?
Ummm.....I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, but thanks for watching so closely!!
That's a sexy piece you have there mate, I really like it! :D
Cheers muchly, Dave! Glad you like it.
Superb as usual Martin. Are there any disadvantages quick drying with the heat gun compared to waiting overnight? Oh and our students still talk about your visit and are now basing some of their final products this year around turned pieces. You are always welcome back if passing the Nottingham area!!
Love this bowl What is the name /type of the wood colours /stains that you use ? Are they food safe ?
Very nice piece of wood. What kind of colours do you use?
Very nice job Martin. Buffing boots lol where did ya serve?
Thank you for a great video! I just purchased the sample set of Intrinsic Colors and cannot wait to try. In watching this video I see you used danish oil then sanding sealer then wax. I use Tried and True Danish oil. Is it ok to put Hamshire Sheen High Gloss wax over the top of the danish oil? Thank you
Thanks for watching. So long as the oil is fully cured, an overcoat of the Gloss Wax shouldn't be a problem.
Hi Martin,
May I first of all wish you and your family a very HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
Another great video as always, do you ever get fed up of beeing sooooooooooooo good lol?
My question is, I'm looking for a 'thin' 1 to 1.5 inch thick slab of either sycamore or maple.... a light wood without any heavy figuring in it! It's for a piece of Pyrography either for my wife or her church! Depending on it works out! Do you know of anyone who mills such piece's? I would prefer it to have the grain running the length of the piece, not a disc of the trunk if you know what I mean! From watching your video sycamore looks light in colour which would be perfect for Pyrography as you must already know! I've not burnt sycamore before but been told it's a dream to burn as long as it's dried/cured enough.
Cheers, take care mate👍😉👌
Just stunning! What brand of colors and oil and sanding sealer did you use?
Hello friend very nice work.
from where did you buy that electric turntable.
where your dish was on. come it from the internet
hi Martin, I'm new to wood turning your videos are amazing, I'm learning some great tips and techniques from you, many thanx. just a quick question mate whats the wood colouring called thinking of investing in some, didn't think you could do this it gets better and better lol the bowl is an amazing colour WOW. many thanx Geoff p.s keep up the great videos they are really tutorial. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching! I'm using the Intrinsic Colour Collection from Hampshire Sheen. Suppliers list is here: www.hampshiresheen.com/buy
That turned out really really nice! Great video. What brand of high gloss wax did you use?
Thanks, Justin. I used Hampshire Sheen High Gloss finishing wax on it.
Hi naturally I always enjoy your videos... I have a question to ask you it is bothering me for a while.... what kind of dye you use water base or spirit base? or something different? Thanking you in advance from OZ jack Marashlian
Hi Martin, super video thank you...I have a question: now that you/we know about Yorkshire Grit, would it be advisable to use YG after colouring and danish oil but before sanding sealer? Would it blur the colouring adversely etc? I’m about to try colouring for the first time!
Très bien! What is the brand name of the color dye you used?
Martin, are your Intrinsic colors ever going to be available in the States?
W O W
Beautiful piece. You apply oil then sanding sealer. What base type sealer do you use? Cellulose or shellac?
Thank you. When the oil is completely cured and dry, I use a cellulose sealer most of the time.
Watching this again as I'm just about to purchase some wood stains. Water based or spirit base, that is the question?
I use water based colours so I don't feel forced to rush the application before spirit based colours dry off.
@@msabansmith so it's some HS intrinsic colours for me then. I hate rushing when I'm being creative. 🙂
what is the brand of spray on colour that you put with a paper towel ? Remember cam in Canada.
