While I had some time this morning, decided to check out on of your videos in my quest for more knowledge. Been planning to do a project this weekend with burning some Ash for a challenge set by Tournage Dubois, so saw this video and thought I have to watch. That is a great looking vase. Love how the grain is accentuated by the embellishing wax. Thank you for sharing Martin
Great to see you back again Martin. Thoroughly missed and enjoyed seeing all that thought process back. Makes a far more interesting video when the whole plan isn't there to start with. Like the simple contrast in the whole piece.
Super video. Will be sharing with the students as it’s nice to see a simple shape completed to a high standard. It’s not always about complex hollow forms, inlay, segmented, multiple timber, turned, carved and re-mounted 4 times pieces of work.
Martin, there is not much more for me to say as it has all been said previously. Color, shape and commentary all excellent. Very good production. Camera work and editing very good. You show just the right amount of each process and explain extra detail. A good example for all You Tube producers. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing from Marietta, Georgia, USA..
I like it. A simple shape, but the color and embellishing really make it a nice presentation. Well done. You have a great eye, and the ability to pull it off.
Hi Martin....Really like the burnt and burnished look on the Ash and the crimson interior really sets it off.. I will give that idea a go myself. Great video.....All the best.....Andy
the bronze wax makes it really interesting..ash is great for that sort of use. it came out really nice looking. There were a couple points when you were clearing the base and thinning things down, i was really liking the looks of the beading and layers there and thought you could have left a foot on it, making it almost a goblet like thing But I knew you were going to take it clear off, so I found myself trying to make a mental note to toy with some of the angles and things you'd created there to see what I might get out of it.. .
Good to see you back at the lathe Martin! Excellent tutorial as usual from you! The vase looks awesome! The color combination is spot on as usual from you! Hopefully with your busy schedule, you will be able to get more lathe time in the future!
Hi Martin, It was good to see this masterclass with your hallmark ‘follow me through’ thought process. Having done my one to one day with you recently and focussed on hollowing a piece of Ash it served as a very useful refresher. It’s nice to see you back on You Tube. David
Just beautiful, really nice artistic touches that make it incredible. You have giving me some inspiration. I make my own wax, polish, sanding sealer and abrasive pastes. Now I may have to try to make some embellishing waxes as well, they really add that nice finishing touch that emphasizes the wood grain. Great job, thank you for sharing with us.
really beautiful. I've been following your vids for quite some time, even though I am still uncertain about some procedures, especially when to use Yorkshire grit: before or after applying embellishing wax? I know it might seem a trivial question, but I've only been turning a few months. Thanks :)
Hiya. Thanks for asking. Grit is always used as part of the sanding process. An easy way to remember the order of things: Hampshire Sheen products (apart from the colours!) are *finishes* so they go on at the end, when everything else is . . . Um . . . Finished. 😃
Your great to watch great personality x mike
