Woodturning Symposium - Southwest Association of Turners (SWAT) 2023 in Waco, TX

Every year I like to go to SWAT. Even years like this where I can't afford a ticket to attend the classes. Because the comradery, inspiration, insight, and drooling that takes place in the free areas of the event (vendor displays and pop up art gallery) work as a creative battery recharge for me.
So enjoy my experience documentation of the 2023 SWAT Woodturning Symposium. And sorry for a few missing clips from the vendor area. I had trouble with the sound and didn't know it until I got editing.

Thank you for sharing some of that event. The pieces you showed were mind blowing. The artistic talents of some wood turners are just amazing. And the bead containers were very cool. Great reminder on the goodness in people in a world where there is so much negativity in the daily news.

The pvc ones will not be given out per our direction due to not being able to sanitize it .

You know what would be great? If you create a playlist for a beginner to watch in order of the things you would teach someone new. You have awesome videos but trying to go through your whole collection of videos is not that easy. :-)

Yes, but the decoupage is not. The requirements are strict. No lacquer, poly only because it will go through an alcohol bath.

@@wortheffort No, I stated correctly. These have long been talked about in the club and often rejected. The club producing these does not follow the parameters of the box.

@@marknelon6958 you stated "all PVC" were rejected. Then you stated it was the decoupage, not the PVC. Then in the same comment you contradicted yourself again and said it was the finish (alcohol soluble) on the decoupage that was the problem. Sounds to me you're wanting to make blanket statements putting down other peoples good work for the drama and self-esteem boost. Especially considering most of the so called decoupage looked like vinyl stickers or wallpaper sealed with some kind of plastic (poly/epoxy) to me. A constructive comment would have been, "be sure people making the boxes follow the guidelines set out at ...." and left it at that. Don't be a jerk on this channel dude.

@wortheffort ; Thank you for posting this Video of S.W.A.T. SYMPOSIUM. It was great to talk to you there. And you are right about the bead boxes. The Gentleman that is in charge of the boxes at our club- Brazos Valley Woodturners, the local Waco club ( a host club ) is in Contact with the Beads of Courage Organizers and shows us how to make them. Also thank you for showing my little Fred Flintstone car. Actually Carl Jacobson of Niles Bottle Stoppers made a RUclips video about 4 years ago and I used that for the inspiration (stealing) to make mine. Hahaha :
