They were married and hosted a TV variety show. They ended each show this way, a little song, a little roasting of Sonny. After their divorce Cher married Gregg Allman for a few years and went on to have a successful solo career. Sonny also remarried and went into politics becoming mayor of Palm Springs, CA then as a U.S. congressman before he died in a skiing accident.
This is the abridged version of the song that put them on the map, got them world fame and this TV show. I think it was #1 around 1964.
That was probably the shortest version of that song I've heard, you should listen to the full version. The shorter version was probably just to be an outro to the show.
They had a very popular TV show that was great entertainment...and, yes, they were married, the chemestry of their singing and humor as hubby and wife really showed through 😊🎉
That is not the entire song. It was just a part of it from their variet6 show. Sonny was known for having had had a medicore voice and Cher was the star singer. He was a comedian who eventually was mayor of some town.
the last time they performed this song, after they had been long divorced, was i think on the David Letterman show. it was very touching and considering all they had been through with and without each other, it was like their gift to each other. you should check some very early versions, from the 1960's, and compare to that last one. Sonny wrote it for Cher so she wouldn't have to perform alone. she had extreme stage fright when she was very young.

You gotta watch more of her performances and costumes from this show and others. My Mama thought she was beautiful and I just grew up watching this show and at the end they would bring out their little girl Chasity Bono. I am not sure of his new name after reassignment but they I think they were always very supportive of him. She is so iconic.

I remember when this show came out.
Sometimes at the end of their show they would have their little daughter Chastity come out on stage with them. She usually wore a cute little outfit and often had a ribbon 🎀 in her blonde hair. She grew up and had a sex change and is now Chaz Bono.

It is often forgotten now that Cher changed womens' hairstyles even to the current day. Before this women did not wear their hair straight and uncurld and uncut. After this song came out her hair style was almost universal among women younger than thirty. Just an FYI.

There is a very early version of this song on z British tv show and you can see Sonny literally pushing Cher up on the stage to perform.
She was a 16 and he was 28 when they got together, they married and had a career that was faltering then they got this tv show ,she was 25 . The schtick was her teasing him about his appearance or voice.
