    A "close" is a scottish term for a passage usually between buildings. On the royal mile you can go up lots of those and find lots of hidden gems up them thr private ones will have gates

    Oh man!!! I just was there last week! I travelled from Singapore to London then to Edinburgh then to London and Paris and now in Strasbourg. I’m going back to Singapore next Tuesday.

    Close means a passage way .
    The only ones which are private have gates on them.

    So interested in your research of how to pronounce ‘Edinburgh’, down in the south of the UK we tend to pronounce it with the ‘h’ on the end. When you hear it back it sounds like we are adding a silent ‘u’ as well. That Italian restaurant looked lovely as well. 👍

      We love trying to figure out the right way to pronounce places but then you add accents and speech habits, it's hard to track down the origins. But we love to try :)
