I lived in leith in 2003 and it was very rough. My friend and I were set upon by some thugs on our way to a party. My friend was left blind in one eye from the glass in his spectacles breaking into his eye. Then he left the uk and went back to Poland due to it. I also left Scotland at that point and moved to Wales. In Wales the people were friendlier and there was much less violence and drugs than in Scotland.
Leith was a no-go zone for outsiders up until about 10/12 years ago - especially for English tourists I’m afraid to say. It’s positively gentrified now, hope you enjoyed your visit!

These aren’t Edinburgh’s roughest pubs. Most of the notorious Leith pubs have been knocked down. Still a few rough ones in Granton/Pilton but nothing like the Gunner used to be
Stayed there about 20 years ago while working in Edinburgh. The B&B was owned by a guy and he had his mate working for him. We would go down to breakfast and they were all prepped with the food and on the whisky alreay. We'd then get back about 5 or 6pm and the guys were pissed af! 😂😂😂 Really good, clean digs and really good breakfast. 👍👍👍
Back@Kieran , Ive bought many an English guy a pint and never wanted back , although wasnt ever offered back are i found a right tight fisted lot in England and why im happy to be back in Scotland staying .. Prices in Scotland are much dearer though , id grudge paying £4 plus a pint , they are much cheaper in England for drink likes though depends what part of England your in as London for instance id never go as never liked there many yrs ago so unfriendly . As for Leith much has changed . But fishing in Scotland also i missed another reason why i came back to stay in Scotland . But prices in Scotland for drink are over the top these days since they also through Snp stopped happy hrs in Scotland nd put prices of alcohol up in Scotland regards health reasons supposedly
If an Englishman offers myself a beer in a bar then im tking it and then ill dance the Highland fling ill dance the Highland fling as its not often an English person shall buy a drink for a Bonnie Scotsman . But the other way around Scots do buy odd drinks to English people why is that u may think . Well us Scots are a better people as simple as and sure u enjoyed your free pint bought you from a Scot also . Were used to being kind hearted people in Scotland . but in England opposite shy away not as friendly or open and very sly way you go about things in England . But if ever next time im in England and receive a beer ill come back onto tell you about it ok..But i wouldnt hng my hat on such 😁
Imagine thinking it is getting worse because" it is getting gentrified" ie - some money is coming into the area , as opposed to the reality that thousands of recent arrivals are burdening all services.

You started off walking along my street - broughton road. Defo not dodgy.
There’s queen victoria…”the babe herself” had me crying🤣🤣
💦
Have a look at her statue in Liverpool, definitely not a babe.
He was being ironic
Leith was a no-go zone for outsiders up until about 10/12 years ago - especially for English tourists I’m afraid to say. It’s positively gentrified now, hope you enjoyed your visit!
No it wasn’t. I hung around leith and I’m not a Leither. Never had any problems
Apparently its the west of scotland that gets all the rain
The Marksman was definitely a bit sketchy 😮 Fair play to you for giving it a go.
Deffo avoid it
‘It is what it is!’ has to go on some merch, Champ!
Enjoying watching these from my bed with man flu, I don’t go far now for a beer, I’ve got a great local and can’t be arsed 😂, so you’re reminding me when me n my pals would.
Safe journeys.
Try the grapes in the southside
😂
Ohh jeez! That's a right pint and punch-up there! 😂
He should've just gone to Shandwicks if he wanted to see real roughness 😂
Check out New Barns (not sure on apostophre placing) Brewery and tap-room next time you are in Leith. They produce their own beer so it'll be expensive but it is banging.
Can't believe you didn't go into Tam O'Shanter's or the Spey Lounge! Marksman's quality though! 😂
as a huge indiana jones fan, the ad was great 🤣💪🏼
Wow, I've never had the balls to walk into any of those pubs. Well done mate, you handled yourself very well and were respectful throughout. Stay safe
Aye, but he looks the part does he no? Looks the sort of dude who mugs people, not gets mugged if you see what I mean?
These aren’t Edinburgh’s roughest pubs. Most of the notorious Leith pubs have been knocked down. Still a few rough ones in Granton/Pilton but nothing like the Gunner used to be
there arent any in pilton and im pretty sure only 1 or 2 in granton
You should of gone to the Spey Lounge
Stayed there about 20 years ago while working in Edinburgh.
The B&B was owned by a guy and he had his mate working for him.
We would go down to breakfast and they were all prepped with the food and on the whisky alreay.
We'd then get back about 5 or 6pm and the guys were pissed af! 😂😂😂
Really good, clean digs and really good breakfast.
👍👍👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣mint thay

Aye, stayed in one overlooking Leith Links, was called McAnair awesome
Central bar interior is stunning
Free pint off a Scot you must be popular hahaha
It was of me
I got free booze when Celtic played in Sydney
Back@Kieran ,
Ive bought many an English guy a pint and never wanted back , although wasnt ever offered back are i found a right tight fisted lot in England and why im happy to be back in Scotland staying ..
Just so lovable 🤣
If an Englishman offers myself a beer in a bar then im tking it and then ill dance the Highland fling
ill dance the Highland fling as its not often an English person shall buy a drink for a Bonnie Scotsman .
But if ever next time im in England and receive a beer ill come back onto tell you about it ok..But i wouldnt hng my hat on such 😁
Beltin site our kid. Love the banter. From a Salford lad now in Blackpool 🫡
Do you want a wee bit of sniff sniff Charlie 😂😂😂😂😂😂thats my sort of boozer ❤🇬🇧🇮🇪
🤣
Any plans to do Black Country/Birmingham?
This week 👍
At last, you came to Edinburgh! Walked right past my house too.
I told you before you'd love the Marksman 😂
Best pub of the bunch 🤣
@@honestplaces Hahaha, legend!
@honestplaces did you say you had been to Ayr , are you putting up a video of there
Yeh pal, probs next week. Didn't get into a pub though 😭
@@honestplaces ok cheers videos different class mate keep it up 👍
Imagine thinking it is getting worse because" it is getting gentrified" ie - some money is coming into the area , as opposed to the reality that thousands of recent arrivals are burdening all services.
I worked in Leith in the 80s and 90s for a reach out charity, It was rough but that's how things were, drugs, aids, prostitutes, unemployed but we still went to most of the pubs ..Mo Problem.
The Iona Bar is good and The Vine along at Junction Street. Most people in Leith are either sipping champagne or drinking oatmilk-mocha-lattes but some character pubs still around. The Tavern near the foot of the walk is probably worth a visit.
Spot on there mate
The marksman was only done up after a Wetherspoons opened next to it. They paid for the refurb of it because they didn’t want people put off the Wetherspoons. None of these pubs are actually that rough, try Tranent or Prestonpans
@NCOYS take a look at Tranent high street, count how many CCTV Cameras there are. There’s a reason for that! One of my friends got threatened on the high street pushing her son in his pram in the daytime.
Hi there. Are you going to be offering any merch?
Really enjoy your vids.
🤣🤣 not planned to!
From Australia, I lived in Leith in a few places in maybe 95/96 it was a top place would live there again tomorrow, the only pub I remember was my local when I lived on Lorne Street, the Coopers Rest, corner of Easter Road and Lorne Street, anyone here know George or Gadge? Plenty of big nights had there
First lived over Ferry Road way someway and spent some time in he pubs down by the waterfront, the 24 hour ones, great people, loved it
Dalkeith though, that's another story, rough fucks over that way, nearly got in a knife fight when I didn't have one but me Scottish work mate in the same confrontational discussion sorted it before the police came and the fucker ran and through the knife, they got him though which was good, fun times but wonder what could have been from that one
Love how the Scots call the police the polliss too hahaha
@@weburnitatbothends this cunt wouldn't survive an afternoon in Dalkeith, walking around with his camera ,would have been chored as soon as he stepped out of his vehicle 😂don't worry this is no taint on Dalkeith but fuck it's rough 😊
Central Bar is one of my favourite Leith pubs. Never had any bother in there. And it's also a prominent locale in the novel version of Trainspotting, although sadly never made it to the big screen.
Aye, no bumped into Frances Begbie either.
This channel is the best! It is what it is from Texas, man 😂
Cheers pal 👍🍺
Excellent. Comedy ads wrapped around pub crawl)
Cheers pal 🤣
the first ad i actually enjoyed to watch.
Really appreciate that pal 👍
