Hey Mick, we started homesteading, with a small shack, in far northern Maine, 50 years ago. Can relate to your comments about “less down time than you thought” and “always something to do”. We wrapped up our fall list here just in time for first snow. But, keep at it. You’ll get there. We’re retired now with warm 5 room house (one room added at a time”. )
We feed birds also. Big hint..If you want more birds, fill your tube feeders with sunflower seeds, for jays, etc. Scatter the mixed seed on ground for the “ground feeders”. Hang up a bit of suet or fat for woodpeckers. Each has their own preferences for feeding.

Before you know it you will need to build bird houses to keep them near. Be careful what you wish for. I started with a few bird and now I feed hundreds in the morning. Lol Keep your positive attitude.👍 you're doing well. It's that Whipple drive.

When my step-dad (the Mr. Good-Enough guy) and I were building my place here on the K-Penn. Every day when finishing up at the end of the day, I would clean up the job site. He would make snarky comments about it but eventually shut up. I have never liked leaving a mess at the end of the day, and it's nice to go back the next morning to a clean work area.

Mick, I have a few building tips for you. 1. Get pencils. You can erase when you mark wrong and graphite does not show thru paint, like ink. 2. When you make a straight cut with a speed square, move it over and use it to guide your circular saw. You will get a much nicer cut every time.

Excellent perspective! I'm an artist and I remember that once as a teenager my darling mother reacted to me staring at a drawing I was working on by saying "Well, no one has to tell you you're good!" It was a well intended attempt to keep me humble, but what she didn't realize was that I was scrutinizing it to see what I could make better. We always need that self critique to improve the quality of our creativity, I believe. I’ve seen that to be so in my nearly 7 decades of life so far.
Yes, it's also a good thing to learn, when to let go of the critical eye just enough to take in the satisfaction of what you've been able to create. I know it can give you inspiration, energy, and enthusiasm for the next project, and the next...
I Love your videos! Love the bird feeders and I'm happy you've reopened the PayPal, Mick. Happy toiling!

Very nice cabin upgrade with the new siding!
As for birds.... wild bird seed makes a mess, gets moldy and attracts mice. Black oil sunflower seeds will get birds to your feeders and comes in 40 pound bulk sacks. Much more economical that that granular burd seed. You need to place the feeder under better cover from rain and snow. Amazon has covers that can be easily added to your existing feeders. The covers provide protection and help with squirrel intruders too. I have bird feeders hanging within view of 3 sides of my house. Cheap-ish entertainment. Best wishes!

Glad for new video and seeing alls well. Your Homestead coming along .
Slow as you go and enjoy life.
Lots of good suggestions (steps, eaves to keep out water damage), know you will handle that in time.
Get a tarp and cover your wood so is dry ready to keep you warm.
Gutter to drain water into a barrel a necessary evil.
Most importantly Mick, do what makes you thrive, radical decisions, priorities , but always
    include joyous times.
Not many 18 year olds have accomplished what you have on their own.
Anxious for next video -short n sweet, or longer.

As I have said before, your production is just fine. Your videos are better than many.
We are all just thrilled to see your progress. Keep your content coming, Mick. Business has cycles. Now is the time to build your subs. IMHO audio is the most important. As a failed podcaster 😂 I did learn the foundational importance of great audio. Between that silky voice of yours, great choice of background music and darn good leveling, you’ve got this. Your video is fine.
Keep putting out content. Progress beats perfection. You are honing your craft. Don’t get caught in the perfection trap. For now you are doing fine with production or your channel wouldn’t have grown.
Focus on your subs. Subs come from content. Narrow homestead is doing a great job building his brand through a lot of shorts.
So happy to see you. I was hoping you hadn’t given up.
    Wow!
The scenery is great. The cabin is becoming a home.
    Well done.
    Subs content subs content.

In the spring, try and grow some vegetables and during harvest make some preserves to help with food during the winter. Living off grid and growing your own food is actually one of the benefits of living off grid. Even have some chickens for a good source of eggs. Not sure if this will attract unwanted predators around your property or not. It's definitely a great source for content.

@Extreme9936 They will survive the same as a winter bird. Just build a good winter coop. They need between 12-15hrs light in order to lay eggs and a regular schedule. Ang type of light bulb will work.

Good morning buddy how ya doing? The cabin is shaping up!! You are doing it just like your folks did when they were young. I think they are good role models. I’ve never met you or your family, but one like to to very much.
Don’t get discouraged during the thin times, it builds character.
As a young fella I wanted to do what you are doing live life as you choose, living by the decisions you make. Following your own dreams. Thank you for sharing your life with us . God bless you Nick and your family. Keep up the good work!!

The siding looks great, Mick! All buildings look bad until the siding goes up, so don’t worry. Love seeing the bird feeders. We love feeding the birds and put out black oil sunflower seeds, which the birds love. We also plant a cluster of sunflowers each year. We put out thistle seed for the finches. We also set out some cracked corn on the ground, and occasionally we give them some peanuts. Rare occasion they get the salty shell peanuts or mixed nuts. We set out a hummingbird feeder, bird bath, and salt block also. Morning and night there is always something to watch. Plant some red and white clover in your grass and the bunnies will show up. Best entertainment out there. Over time you will figure out what your wildlife enjoys, and you’ll have a lot of enjoyment watching the birds and wildlife while you sip coffee or tea, especially on those cold days. Look forward to seeing more from you in the future. Loved your story time as well. Take care and blessings!

    Content ideas.
What are you doing for water, power, do you have an outhouse? Do you get into town? Do you see your friends? What do you eat in a week? What variety of food do you eat? What is your plan for treating cold and flu? Do you have herbals or? Do you have a PO Box? What can you share about the wildlife? Native plants? Indigenous people? Any interaction or is it two separate worlds? How many coats do you have for winter? How many hours of daylight do you have and what are the temps in each video (that might be good for the description box) do you have cell service? How often do you speak with your parents? Where and how do you store your food? How do you protect against bears? Is there anything in your build that had bears in mind? Do you have internet access? Where do you have to go to upload content? How do you wash dishes? Where do you shower (sponge bath). What mental space has surprised you? You have signed up for a lot of challenges (bravo!) how are you handling your inevitable disappointments, mindset to grow through it?
BTW I love how much you are using that ladder!

Nicely done! All projects have ugly stages, but congratulations on getting to a prettier stage. Wildlife brings me such joy, feeding the birds and critters around my home helps me during those oh so brief quiet moments to be able to just be an observer Perhaps in downtime if you have some scrap wood that you could turn it into a small platform feeder, some birds prefer flat feeding spaces over the tubes!

Looks great Mick! The siding really gives it a finished look!
Long-time birder in Northern Minnesota here. If you want the most birds as economically as can be, offer just plain old black oil sunflower seeds. They’re by far the most favored by the most bird species.
Not many birds eat corn, and even less eat millet. Mostly, they’ll kick it out in the ground to get at the sunflower seeds.
If you want to splurge sometime, offer some medium sized hulled black oil sunflower seeds in addition to the whole seeds. Some smaller birds really go for those because they have a hard time cracking whole seeds.
    See you soon! Matt
