Often when I am trying to fall asleep, I imagine I am in a basic shelter in the wilderness, with cold temperatures outside but warm inside. And my dog is with me.
After all these yrs I think I'm going to stop reading the comments on yt videos. Mostly negativity. People thinking they could do better or trying to find something wrong with every video from the comfort of their homes. Most probably never done anything like this.
Planning ahead would suggest that 1. All firewood cutting would happen in the summer and stacked up on both sides of the entrance. 2. The door entrance would not be blocked by excessive snowfall. Perhaps the floor level shoud be a foot higher than excessive snowfall.
I am always happy to see that you are doing well. The cabin is doing nicely in its first winter, your hard work and attention to detail paid off as you seemed warm and comfortable while you were there. Looking forward to next video. Take care and be safe.
No bills until the following day, when he has to go back home and recharge all the video making stuff and other toys he has used to make this video... 😉😄
Except for me maybe the cordless power tools and all the camera work and hot house tomatoes. If this was anything other than sophisticated cosplay, we wouldn't be watching it on RUclips.

Building and spending a night in an underground log cabin is a testament to the ingenuity and resilience required for survival in the wilderness. This type of shelter offers unparalleled protection, comfort, and a unique connection with nature.

Hello from Indiana USA and this 63 year old lady.(Had my birthday this month). Thanks for sharing this enjoyable video with me. Yikes 😳😬 that's a lot of snow ❄️😮🎉. Stay safe and warm 💞❤❤❤.
I love your cabin the scenery is beautiful with all that snow and the tree's. I look forward to watching your videos. Just all around is breathtaking. Stay Safe and Healthy ALOHA From Hawaii ❤❤
I live in Namibia, second least densely populated country on the planet. “Rofkamp” (rough camp), no tents, a gun (protection and supper) and water, is the best way to relax/ spend REAL quality time with my 2 boys! I agree-awesome feeling
I have done that for a year. But I have books, power, a four-burner stove and oven, various weapons, sat phone, and a Kan Chuan bed (Chinese). I always have a my 12 cyl Cummins Gen set on, store 2000 of Diesel and parts, and LPG. A side building for tools, and John Deere equipment. It gets to -40 sometimes so I keep that area warm. I like to see no people, and I don't, but I have to go into Fairbanks sometimes for rations and new clothing/ lights and others.
This video is a master piece of visual genius. Your cabin is highly squared away and built to last. One word on food and cooking indoors - Everything is center around boiled water: Coffee, oatmeal, eggs, re hydrating meals (ARMY, Mountain House, Back packing foods) boiling water also helps for humidity, drinking, washing etc etc
This cabin is way cool. The amount of thought and planning is great. Love the bricks waffling the fire and protecting the log walls, and providing a place to put hot things, that's very clever. The fold down table protecting the supplies cupboard is good thinking too. Shutters covering the glass windows provides another layer of insulation. And... that meal looked amazing :)
I have a cabin in Alaska and a home in Fairbanks. I like the cold winter. I hate mosquitos, so you need a complete suit sprayed with DEET. I put 30 bug zappers around the place, but you have to empty them every 30 minutes. It helps keep them out, but it really doesn't make that much difference. But that is when hunting time may be and certainly fishing time. Then you have to store that food. Solar helps, but only a little. I bought a slightly used 12cyl Cummins Generator surrounded by a "near soundproof" building. Lined PVC right to the panel I put in. I have 2,000 gals of water stored in a warm shed so my Chinese wife of 32 can have a hot shower, and I set up a basic steam room in there. It is a log cabin but 3,000 square feet. I had it built since I am mechanical and can service the Cummins and truck, but you have to have all kinds of spare parts. I have hunted since my daddy taught me, can service guns, taught her to shoot, even though she is 110 lbs, soaking wet, dragging a deer. She is educated and grew up in a small village called Tonghua, 400 mi NORTH of NORTH KOREA. Now that is remote. It fun. She knows how to clean a moose, and other game. You need two snowmobiles to haul the meat back.
I am in awe of this. I grew up without running water, hand pump and outhouse. The only thing I would miss here is a shower. We used a #10 galvanized wash tub and kettle heating the water.
I watch these videos and wish I could be there. I'm in my middle 70's with health problems I haven't been able to go spend times in the woods for many years and I haven't been negative about watching.
That’s a pretty nice little setup! I like how it’s obviously built simply but no claims of using only an axe and belt knife or anything like that. Use modern tools for what they’re good for and setup a nice little escape from it all! I’d love to live like that!
GREAT CABIN!!! Watching again. We were excited about a dusting of snow a few nights ago. We don’t get much snow. It was cold this morning 22F/-5C. It’s 8:30 PM and 52 degrees F/11 degrees C, now. We would absolutely be paralyzed by 2-3 feet of snow. Thanks for sharing your nice cabin in the woods…from an old veteran, retired in the US foothills of the Smoky Mountain National Park.
The last cabin I built I had a separate room with vents so when it snowed it was my ice box for game I hunted plus I had a bathroom with a compost toilet
The experience of spending a cozy night in a carefully crafted underground log cabin goes beyond mere survival-it embodies resilience, resourcefulness, and reverence for nature.
And when you feel pressure, you turn that hollow stool you just made upside down, put a bark bag inside, have a dump, then burn it in the wood stove. I can see the genius in it all…
The happiest time of my life were 2 summers I spent on my cousins horse farm In WV I was 12 n 13 wish id stayed I met hermits, drank from springs water so good it made u hard. Sawn visited hermits n their cabins, rode horses skidded logs down to the log truck. 5 miles from the nearest dirt road. I was n my glory.
The thing is the log cabin has already been built. So it wasn’t as difficult as if the cabin hadn’t been built. The rest of the video is about relying on your own experience to get through until you can see the weather change for the better.
Maybe make some Nail Boards for your Main Door for the Bears not bang it down. When you leave just put few screws on it and the Nails be facing to the bear. Windows can use that also if they are big.
I love your stool! Sure beats sitting on a hard log! Searing the meat first certainly adds a lot of flavor and the garlic! I never thought of cutting the meat open to put the garlic inside! Thanks for the video!

Très bien 👍, petite fenêtre avec volets intérieurs porte avec crochet intérieur, mais pourquoi pas une serrure ? Très belle cabane . Manque juste un petit Sauna à l'extérieur tout prêt de la porte d'entrée .
I like your permanent seating pad idea. The dish you made was a bit like a Traditional Danish & Swedish one from my childhood. Some interesting solutions about space management. Your little wood burner stove is a gem.
Love this cabin. Do you visit the other cabin where you keep the bees. Looked up Capercaillie as never heard of it. Really interesting. Learn something new everyday. Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨🙏🏻💙👋🏻
