You mentioned indexing,. I have the Herbrand version of this ratchet and it is loose ...very loose. The guy at the yard sale ( pro yard sale) tried to tell me that is how they all worked...I didn't buy it.
...the line...I did buy the ratchet but hope to get it in the right hands so it will be fixed and ready for work. Great video. tHanks!

You're welcome my friend yeah they aren't supposed to flop around does it have a sring and ball bearing if it does the spring might be weak or broken some had a thin piece raised raised spring steel that was responsible for the indexing jh Williams breaker bars from the 40s were like that and they often became weak and sloppy over time

@@Donthetoolman I don't recall spotting what went wrong with it. I do remember it wasn't obvious to me what needed to be done.
It was the Herbrand that I was after. I'll have to follow up one day.

When you get a chance......have a look at the SK Wayne 3870........Adults only.....Ratchets can go from being a good tool to reach for one minute and a employment threatening financial addiction the next......This isn't for the faint of heart.
These swivel heads are my favorite. Would love to fine a 1/4" drive swivel. Snap on has one, I think SK had one too.

I've been hunting for the Craftsman 1/2" or 3/8" flex head ratchets. I have the 1/2" and it is my lug wrench of choice.
Turns out these flex heads seem to cost a bit more than one would expect. You scored a good deal.

Thanks they do tend to go for a hefty price especially craftsman right now people want that USA quality craftsman and I for one don't blame them

@@Donthetoolman It is funny to watch Craftsman grow in popularity. I was like many who took them for granted.....now my eyes open wide when I see a set at a yard sale.

Nice ratchet. I run into Bonney ratchets on rare occasions but have yet to encounter a flex head.

That's cool bonney ratchets are hard to come buy around we're I'm from in the Midwest I see sockets and wrenches but never a ratchet I own quite a few bonney wrenches and very little sockets but I have to agree the flex head ratchets are a rarity not sure why maybe the craftsman quick release flex head was more desirable at the time I know new Britain in the late 70's felt the pressure to compete with craftsman when craftsman came out with the quick release ratchets new Britain followed suit to stay competitive wich in my opinion new Britain didn't have much to worry about quality wise it was far better than craftsman towards the 80's new Britain suffered tremendously with quality issues just like many others during them times the Asian markets was really putting the hurt on USA tool companies and now we have very few USA tool companies left unfortunately that's why I collect USA vintage tools to keep their history preserved that's my goal thanks for watching and sharing your comment my friend

I run into New Britain made ratchets all the time being in CT. I've been trying to collect the different variants. I had a 3/4" Bonney ratchet that I had until my tools were stolen. At my local trash transfer station they have an area where people drop off serviceable items that you can rummage through. I found a Bonney 3/8 ratchet and a mint condition New Britain made Sparta. I miss my Matco Bonney made combination wrenches.

@mlieser1230 I bet you do miss them I would be as happy as a racoon in a trash can if I seen tools like that I bet you do miss the matco combo bonney wrench matco and Mac tools I believe was partnered together I know they are a great brand for sure I remember seeing a new Britain matco branded ratchet for sale and I didn't have the money that day and it was gone by the time I got paid I regret it to this day

Matco made the tool boxes for Mac. In the late 70s Matco split from Mac and went on their own. I had a New Britain made Matco 1/2" flex head ratchet. It was left over stock my Matco man had when Matco changed ratchet manufacturers.
