Just recently became familiar with this film made by Tod Browning ( his most famous work was "Freaks"). The story concerns Cock Robin, a barker at a carnival, along the same prototype as Ferenc Molnar's Liliom, as portrayed by Charles Farrell (1930) and by Charles Boyer(1934). The barker is even in Budapest, and with a similar hairstyle and outfit as in the 1930 version(perhaps the same costume designer for both films?). The storyline also has overtones found in Nightmare Alley (1947) with Tyrone Power. It was once a common occupation to be a barker back in the day, so it's interesting that Tod Browning used that type of character in The Show(1927), but then again Browning had studied carnival folk for a time in his youth.

Odd but compelling movie. John Gilbert and Lionel Barrymore.
