Why naval forces fear Russia's deadly supersonic anti-ship missile

- The Russian P-800 Oniks is one of the deadliest anti-ship missiles.
Launched from land or sea it possesses a 370-mile over-the-horizon firing range with supersonic speed in all phases of flight, along with resistance to electronic countermeasures to avoid naval defensive systems.
The P-800 Oniks warhead can be conventional or nuclear - a conventional warhead can inflict devastating damage making it a so-called "carrier killer" and has the NATO codename SS-N-26 Strobile.

Max speed mach 5 with a range of 800 km
Mach 10 at a range of 1500 miles
@@jayspik6498 Nolpe. Oniks tops out around 800km, and about Mach 2.6. (But only in some phases)
Older brother of brahmos
Very high speed very heavy warhead and super manuverble ...its on its way to the houthis ....
The missile here is actually exported and licensed produced in India as the Brahmos. Therefore if the British military wants to protect the ships from this missile they might as well practice with the Indian military
India show middle finger to UK. This is missile for protection fro u. uk and us
It's a balance, if it's truly super sonic and sea skimming ( unlikely) it will be large and be easier to detect than a more arched tragectory which requires less thrust to get super sonic and therefore can be smaller and harder to detect. For anyone interested, look up convert cabals video on US navy super sonic missiles and why they don't use them.
Hypersonic is not the same as supersonic. While technically true that making a supersonic missile at low altitude is harder than high altitude, predictable ballistic trajectories and early line of sight exposure (ergo warning time) makes them much easier to intercept in practice. The limiting factor on maneuverable hypersonic missiles is also cost, not effectiveness.
@@aidancrowder4911 I didn't say it was the same as hyper sonic, this missile is super sonic.
It's not so much that it's harder, it's that they are bigger due to propulsion systems, giving a wider cross section. Like anything at that speed, course it will be less agile and yes, also expensive but a lot cheaper than the Ship it's aimed at.
Who's that cabal?
Assuming of course Russia has any that work or haven't been converted to hit land targets
Is that why the reason why America and its allies watched from corner like a football When Ukraine gets pounded for two years ?
The same usual mocking Russian weapons are old and rusted but scared to fight them directly
that's a famous anglo line the west is out of ammo and then they push the same thing on Russia. The west got exposed on the ukraine conflict its weapons were sub-standard and low quantity.
@anthonyloveanthonylove2159 leave that kid alone he knows no better , he might understand in few years 😂😂😂😂😂
The p800 onyx can be used for land attacks. It's a lot more flexible than most Us missiles, little did you know.
@@anthonyloveanthonylove2159 The US or generally the NATO does not fear Russias conventional weapons, because NATO has way better weapon systems. They fear the Nukes that´s it. NATO has them as well but if the US would not watch from a corner, you sir would be dead by now. Because then all Hell would break lose
Mach 2.6 fast but not too fast for Sea Viper on a Type 45 destroyer....
One way to avoid this threat is to have no Navy , like Ukraine.....which is going to be the case for Russia too....
Ukraine had a navy in the start of the war
Not a big navy but they still had many frigates and landing ships but they all sunk in the first month of the war
Will C-RAM or the Phalanx radar guided systems detect and destroy these?
No reason to think it won't counter it.
No, the radar won’t pick up till it’s a few seconds away, and by then you’re already dead..
@@jayspik6498That's not true, and carrier groups have organic radar coverage provided by air
@@diggledoggle4192 Dose not matter. Not even the Aegis radar can track hypersonic missiles, not mentioning that the computers are incapable of giving the firing solution to intercept the missiles.. It would be like firing two rifles and hoping you can see the other bullet track it, and shoot it before it kills you.. Forget it we can’t even do that with ballistic nuclear warheads traveling much slower traveling on a predictable hyperbolic trajectory.. It’s fantasy for everyone at this point, even the Russians themselves can’t shoot it down..
ICBM is way faster. You have no idea just making stuff up. They can shoot ICBM from the side. If a missile flies in a straight line towards you it's much easier to send something in its way. The only problem is detection IMO due to plasma. If radar cant see it maybe some optical system does. Imagine there are smart people actually paid to prepare for these threats. There are radars tracking small space debris in the orbit. Maybe the solution exists for decades but it's a secret@@jayspik6498
I suppose the best way to counter these would be to detect them earlier, or in general have a missile with a long enough range and quick enough deployment speed that it can really somewhat negate its effects, tho tbf I think in general targeting radar and detection should be improved as much as possible for each individual vessel to give each one as good a chance as ever. tho we’re prolly a ways away from it, the results we’ve seen in Ukraine w defensive missiles and evidence of their performance should go a long way to improving what we have and developing better defences to replace the current ones.
There is nothing that can track or shoot down something traveling at Mach 10+ That’s the point of why it is feared.. Once it’s fired it will hit no matter what..
@@jayspik6498if people found a way to shoot down regular supersonic missiles they’ll figure this out as well, it’s not impossible so it’s pointless to say it won’t happen.
@@jayspik6498Mach 10 is hypersonic not supersonic.
@@t43562he talks utternonese mate, one to ignore.
@@splatoonistproductions5345it's 20 years old anyway, NATO will know this weapon inside out. Just because it's on forces news, doesn't mean it's new.
I would take anything that Russia states officially with a pinch of salt. Yes, it looks good on TV that the Russian Federation put out, but can it do what they say ? Look at your previous video on their S400 system, I can recall them stating it was the most advanced etc etc, but yet the Neptune missile that Ukraine have adapted says otherwise, and what about Storm Shadow, it seems to be striking a few targets. I bet Putin regrets the day he sent in his Army, hoping that they would be welcomed with bread and salt.

after the wests debacle in ukraine with its sub-standard weapons Russia is still miles ahead of the west in every weapon platform.the west is humiliated in ukraine the war is lost for the west and ukraine
@@anthonyloveanthonylove2159 Just scared of its nuclear weapons nothing else.
@@phooogleI don't know a conventional war wouldn't be good either as we seen in Ukraine the best western weapons get tuned into road art.
Plus Western Europe and Americans are fat and soft. A solder vs solder battle would heavily favor the Russians.
@@marcuslegion3654 NATO would win due to their air power. It isn't really a factor in Ukraine but air dominance wins all wars that aren't nuclear in the modern era.
Still, I'm not advocating war, just mean it would be a very different war between Europe and Russia vs Ukraine and Russia.
Without air power though, yeh, I agree. Just look at how Russia is effectively now grinding Ukraine down despite being backed by so many nations.
Ukraine don’t even have ships 😂
😂😂
Could be seeing the Russian navy having a bit of a reorganisation soon with the modernized Admiral Kuznetsov joining her sister ships of the PLAN in the Pacific along with the modernized Slava-class missile cruisers. The two new assault carriers (Project 23900) partnering the upgraded (3M22 Tsirkon firing capable) and refurbished Kirov-class battle cruisers in Northern Fleet. Watch this space.
Yeah right, Kuznetsov is scrap, Slava class are ancient, badly maintained big targets & the Kirov is probably never going to sail again, even if Russia could afford to try & refurbish it. 😂

No missile is invulnerable. Navy ships carry a barrage of defensive system toppling each other, one fail another kicks in. The C-RAM system on most U.S navy fleets now, can even take down hyper sonic missiles, its targeting system is superior. I have yet to see any missiles that have an avoidance system like Russia claims in reality. All missiles have an assisted guidance or a single search and target system, they do not have a self defence avoidance system inbuilt.
Has the C-RAM ever been tested against a hypersonic missile? No. No, it has not.
It’s shame missiles not protecting there sunken ships in Black Sea
