  • Russia's state-run TASS news agency reported that the country is actively working to increase the sea- and land-based flight range of the Onyx supersonic cruise missile. A source close to the military department told TASS that In the near future, the range of the supersonic Onyx will be increased to 1,000 km.
The P-800 Oniks is one of today's most lethal anti-ship missiles. Its export version is well-known, as is Yakhont. And Western designation of this missile is SS-N-26 Strobile. The Onyx had a maximum range of 600 km when it was first developed by Russia. The most recent Onyx variant, Onyx-M, has a maximum range of 800 kilometres.
According to the manufacturer, the maximum range of the Onyx in the export version (Yakhont missile) is currently 300 km. The maximum rocket speed is 2.5 times the speed of sound at high altitude, the mass of a conventional warhead is 250 kg.
According to Russia's Defense Minister, the country used high precision Onyx missiles during its invasion of Ukraine in May 2022. On May 1, Onyx missiles were used to destroy military equipment near Odesa. Other reports of Onyx missiles being used in the same conflict in Donbas have surfaced.

if those thrusters can be employed in an aircraft i think it can do something to make some unexpected maneuvers during a dogfight.

Yes but from launching to design everything is taken from the Russian Onyx, they upgraded few things but Brahmos pretty much a Onyx design with modifications done to meet Indian requirements.

Brahmos is a super expensive missile 4.85 million each. It is only used to target to attack most powerful weapons and ships and aircraft carrier and military airbase. If we use this for small target it is waste of money.

Also because Russia has hypersonic cruise missiles and is the worlds leader in hypersonic missile technology so it kind of defeats the purpose of using supersonic missiles.

Does Ukraine have any air defense?
      Their jets are gone?
Anti air missiles are not there like s400 or patriot.
      Then why use supersonic missiles?
I think dumb missiles suffice and that's what they have been doing just firing in the dark instead of takin gout the key infrastructure.

Hypersonics are very expensive due to special materials required, u only need it for advanced air defense
