I rarely comment on videos, but thank you so much for doing all this for all of us who are going through the motions. I had so much anxiety, thank you so much. -Rick
jogging and bicycling is fine but lifting weight is a strict no no... that is what causes the hernia in the first place! Also make sure you are not constipated. Straining is not good.
Thank you for making these videos. I am scheduled for Tuesday. I had Barrett's esophagus diagnosed 12 years ago at 24. I have been on 40mg Nexium ever since, I still deal with regurgitation, and my hiatal hernia has gotten worse. I know I need the surgery but it is hard not to question my decision as the day approaches. Videos like yours really help build optimism. I believe that going into the surgery optimistic and coming out looking to heal and get on with life is key. I think a big part of your success was your attitude reflected in your day 1 video. You weren't looking for problems. You were focusing on the positives. I am going to do my best to do the same. Thanks again!
Thanks for making these videos dude, you are much appreciated! I have a small 3cm hiatal hernia, which was diagnosed 3 years ago. It all started when I threw up once for no apparent reason, but I was working out at the gym at least 4 days a week. So I don’t know whether it was caused by weight lifting, but I do know for sure that the nightmare started after throwing up. I had heart palpitations, terrible heartburn, regurgitation and nausea. After taking 20mg of PPIs everyday for three years I decided to stop them, because my stomach is not absorbing B12 and Iron. Surprisingly I’ve been off the PPIs for a couple of months now and I very rarely get heartburn, but I have to be on a strict diet all the time. I haven’t tasted bear in 3 years also coffee and other stuff that I used to love having. I’m considering the surgery, because I am only 32 years old and the hernia is only going to get worse as I age and I do not want to be on meds for the rest of my life and not being able to enjoy most types of food and drinks. I would appreciate it if you could make another video update and tell us how you feel and if you still have to take PPIs. Yoga is very good for strengthening your diaphragm it may help you stop the pills. Take care brother!
Hi, I did the surgery 2 weeks ago. I suspect my gerd is also not 100% fixed but closer to 90% or 80%. My plan B if it's not 100% successful is to do Stretta as it can be done in combination with nissen. It tighten it just a little bit more basically.. I say this because perhaps you should check it out and that it's what you need too (instead of taking PPIs)
Thank you so much for the info! it provides so much clarity and hope for those of us who are still going through GERD symptoms daily. How are you doing now? Have you been able to exercise, such as, cardio and lifting weights regularly? It would be amazing to hear more updates from you. stay safe brother
I have also GERD and i think this is for lifetime unless I'll go to the funduplication surgery, but my only remedy is to loose weight and maintain the ideal weight which is i think hard to other people because to maintain the ideal weight they need to avoid extreme foods that triggers the GERD like sweets, and just eat normally in the right time, and lastly just do exercise atleast 2-3 times per week
thanks for this series. i had laryngopharyngeal reflux (lpr), with chest pain and reflux into my lungs. ppi’s did not help, but gaviscon, a barrier method, did - 100%. you might want to ask your doc if that would be appropriate for you, after your nissen procedure, so that you might be able to come off the ppi’s. your doctor sounds smart, in that she advised you to take the supplements. good health to you!
So nice of you to still make a video after all this time. I think I'm heading for this operation and I'm pretty terrified as its hard to find pain relief that suits me so I'm mostly worried about intense pain afterwards.I was using zantac but now its been recalled I'm not sure what I am going to use as ppi's are getting a bad rap too.
Thanks for sharing your experience. How many months before this video did you get your surgery ? Why are you still using PPIs ? Most people with NF are completely off PPIs for a few years at least. Good luck and good health !
hey...hai...you said your acid reflux came back in previous video......i suggest you for checking bacterial infection in your stomach....acid reflux can be caused by h pylori infection.....it may be helpful to you
I am thinking about getting the surgery I heard a lot of stories about people having trouble swallowing after the surgery did you have trouble with that and also did you reach out to find a surgeon on your own or was there a process through your doctor that helps you find a surgeon
I feel like nobody has asked you this, but how are the scars from the procedure? I am looking to have this procedure done possibly in the future due to my reflux and constant burping (I wake up burping in the night and every morning too). I also have belching during the day when I change position or after eating. It is good to hear that you had no restrictions with weightlifting. I feel that going to the gym makes my symptoms worse right now - especially doing any ab exercises.
Based on your follow up, it must have been 9 years now since the surgery. I'm supposed to have nissen in a month. Also no hiatal hernia (at least not measured in the manometry testing). 5 years later since this last update, can you give us an update? Are you still feeling good with a small ppi dosage? Did you have to increase it? I have read the entire literature but they are always generic, averages and stuff. It helps of course but sometimes one needs case specific details.
Do you get sick more often because of the surgery? Like your immune system is not the same? Also did you have irregular heartbeat before the surgery and if so, did it go away after? That’s a symptom that really freaks me out
Hi Trot, does food still get stuck sometimes when you eat too quickly? I get food stuck so much and its really painful. Does that go away completely eventually?
I appreciate this is an older video but I have my op next week. Bricking it tbh. Cheers for the posts defo helped with the anxiety. I’ll be back on the Guinness in no time!
Thank you for posting these videos. I am considering to do the surgery but you said that after 2 years you are taking the PPI's again. I am wondering if you follow any kind of diet or eat just a typical american diet, full of carbohydrates. I try to follow the diet from the book The Fast Tract Diet - Heartburn, but it does work for me, I guess because of the PPI. I take 20 mg a day of nexium, it helps a little bit, but I cannot sleep a whole night. Next the the hiatal hernia, I have a big hole in my diaphragm.
I eat well. Chicken, vegetables, and healthy carbs. The only times I get heartburn is if I eat real bad. Pizza, wings, beer, ect.. For the mos part I do not experience heartburn. PPI once a day. Remember it use to not work for me.
You still have to take a PPI everyday even after the surgery? I assumed not having to take harmful drugs was a main reason to get the surgery. PPIs do great harm to a person. They aren't meant for regular use.
Patently false. Uncontrolled, severe acid reflux does more harm than any PPI ever could. Granted, I don't like the idea of taking anything long-term, but we do what we must
@@stamsorc7294 my doctor told me this personally that ppis are not meant to be taken long term and would not prescribe them for that specific reason. He said they cause a lot more problems than they are worth. Now, I’m not a medical expert and I assume you are not as well but I believe in this scenario, my doctors word is the most credible.
Thank you so much for the video. I've watched all the updates all your videos. May I ask...if you were to go back in time....how long did the pain last after the actual surgery? Did you have to take time off work?
Dear Trot hope you are doing well.I have been following your blog.Great to hear from you and your videos are very helpful .I am taking ppi since 15 years and since three years experimented taking only 20 mg and it is working fine for three days.Do you suggest to go with surgery for my condition.Thank you very much

In a fews weeks a will be getting the half wrap. right now I take 60mg dexilant and for the most part it helps but still have regurgitation and the surgery should fix that. Doing a lot of research taking ppi's for long term is also no good and studies are showing liver problems and possible dementia with long term. A few years back I tested for Barrett's and the ppi's worked because the following year it was gone. My biggest concern is the meds and long term effects.
Hey bro, would you mind another 2 year update. I’m getting the toupet fundoplication as I have a sensitive stomach and vomit fairly regular ish. I’m scared of corrosion with the linx so I think this may be best for me.
