    I had hiatal hernia and nissen fundoplication surgery a little over 6 months ago. November 4,2022 .What a big difference . I had been struggling with acid reflux for over 30 years . My throat and esophagus were in horrible shape from the acid reflux . I couldn't sleep at night due to stomach acid getting into my lungs . I would wake up gasping for air , coughing up blood and throwing up every night . This surgery was a life changer . No PPI's or any kind of acid reducer . I can eat spicy foods , acidic drinks .....orange juice , cranberry juice , etc.

      Did you get a lot of belching before surgery I’m getting fundoplication on January 9th but really concerned about the belching if that goes away with time?

    • @davidmcelwee156
      @davidmcelwee156 Год назад +6

      I had instant symptom relief. It's been 1 year since my surgery . I still cannot throw up. Very painful to even think about it. But it is definitely worth the surgery . No acid reflux since the surgery . I can belch normally now. I could eat any food I wanted from the day of surgery. I'm sure everyone is different and it may take longer for some to get back to normal on a regular diet . My surgeon was Ronald Atwater in Clarksville Tn . Very good surgeon .

    I just had the surgery Feb 2 because I've had acid reflux for about eight years now that had kept getting more and more severe as I grew. I got the PH test done and in a span of 24 hrs I had 150 episodes of heart burn and reflux and mini-barfs. The average is about 15. I'm so glad you posted this video. I know you posted it last year but I was searching for help because I was worried about some of the symptoms I was having. I'm only 17 years old so the only other "major" surgery I've had was when my wisdom teeth were taken out. The symptoms you described have put me a little bit more at ease since they're pretty much what I'm experiencing. Although I can barely walk whereas you seem to be doing okay XD. Thanks for the help! I hope the surgery worked for you!

      @@priyadayanandan9091 Oh one more tip if you do get the surgery. Before surgery ask what their " pain protocol" is. Hopkins was reticent to give high power pain so kept trying Tylenol and Valium. The first 12 to 16 hours after surgery you need the highest pain relief, morphine or whatever. In hopsital, you are under the hospitalist so unless your surgeon ordered a morphine pump ahead of time, it's up to the hospitalist to decide what you need. That means the nurse calls the hospitalist, you don't even see them. He told her to stay on the conservative protocol. He wouldn't up my meds so I was in terrible pain all night. After about 16 hours, it's much better. I believe patients should be comfortable after surgery, no need for agony, and my surgeon was so angry when I told her of my terrible night. So be sure to clarrify the post surgery pain protocol ahead of time. Best!

    Good to hear you're recovering swiftly bro I'm a couple years younger than you but I too underwent a NF surgery when I was 1 years old.
    NF literally saved my life since I almost died from pneumonia caused by food aspiration. Everything is good now but I have the inability to vomit anything up because of the NF (that is a life-long side effect) so if you're like me make sure to take ultra care when drinking alcohol or anything that can irritate the G.I. tract it could be fatal. I have sinus surgery coming up first in August for chronic sinusitis flare ups but I also have LPR Silent Reflux which affects the larynx rather than the esophagus they say. So reflux goes beyond the upper sphincter. I took PPI prilosec 2x a day for 4-5 months and had a lot of side effects but was healed eventually took a long time. After 3 days of eating bad and I usually eat very good it came back, also drinking a lot of water at night made my LPR come back. I looked up the surgery for LPR silent reflux and It's the same as the one for GERD, nissan fundoplication. It sucks because I have few surgeries to do being only 27 however I don't like medications long term. I hope my gastro does this for me. Urge to cough, mucus in throat but not coming from the sinuses, clearing throat, tight throat hard to breathe.

      a nissen fundoplication IS the repair surgery for a hiatal hernia though (;

The 2 recoveries are completely different. I could actually eat and drink after the TIF however as I started to eat food I would choke and then throw up. Today is day 2 after surgery. My throat burns even worse now. Every time I eat/ drink I feel as though I am going to throw up. My doc says recovery could take 6 to 8 weeks. How long was yours? Wish i had known about Nexium before the op , would give anything to vomit again , especially after a good night out or a bout of the stomach flu. But all in all no more grabbing my chest in the middle of the night dropping to the floor from my bed. Everything pretty much back to normal , except gas can be a bit embarrassing but have learned to expel gas from the upper part of my esophagus , cause i cant once it is in the stomach , from there it all moves south. Only real issue is acute attacks of gastritis but they subside within a couple of days of abstaining from alcohol , then everything is back to normal. Has been about 5 years now. Al the best with the recovery!
