Same age checkin' in. Shout out to the first time I heard Dinosaur Jr. I didn't know if it was a joke, or some sort of secret, but it was etched forever.
Never Forget getting this seven inch on vinyl in my hands when I was in college. The sound, the artwork . . it was new and cool and fresh. Man we had it good back then
When I was a freshman at UConn in 1987 my roommate was on the dorm intramural soccer team. The rest of the guys would go off to the field but he would linger behind... He would kick me out of our room and put on this song and bounce off the walls for 3-4 minutes, then sprint off to the field like a madman to catch up on time with the game.
Nooo he didn’t die it is a lie he is around us in the spring morn and in every winter Dawn, don’t think those you love are gone we live forever in our song. . . Poem by me written to comfort you. And to comfort me and everyone who loved him
It was amazing and emotional music, particularly Husker Du and Bob’s haunting guitar sound. People didn’t understand punk. There is so much good music from that time. I’m so glad I lived through that time with friends I still have to this day.
This is beautiful beyond beleif. What intensity out of 3 instruments! Woah! Only the very very best can play like this, and you can not see such a live act easily any more. Hate to say such big words, but its probably one of the finest moments in rock history, this humble video!
Great Video! One of the greatest covers of all time. I just love the way Bob's singing turns into a roar in the end when the songs builts up to its destructive finale...in the single you can hear it better but this a great testimony of those times when being independent still meant something...
What an great cover by an incredible band. I saw them live twice back in the '80's and they really whipped the crowd into a frenzy. They were just a few years ahead of their time, breaking up in the 80's brfore the grundge bands of the nineties came along and borrowed heavily from them.
Husker Du played the best live show I've ever seen, way back in 1984. There were only like 100 people in the crowd. It was so f'n intense and loud. For reference, their stage presence here is yacht rock by comparison. Great band.
what a fantastic cover of a great song by the best band in the world at the time. Still see bob when he,s touring and he's still got the edge. Way impressive guy!!!
That's a fantastic version, especially considering they were falling apart at the seams by this point; Bob's guitar sounds like a Boeing descending! Still waiting on the entire Hüsker discography getting its well-deserved remastering...
The very first growl from Bob's voice gave me shivers. What an incredible band and an inspired performance. I'm fortunate to have seen them play in Chicago.
was their first gig outside the Twins. Chicago /always/ gave them a great crowd. The Huskers were notoriously good hosts to visiting bands, including our own Naked Raygun.
Now this is a performance beyond beleif! From what i've seen from other postings, this is one of their finest moments live. Absolutely blazing stuff! Nothing, nothing can compare to this.
Best reimagining of a Byrds song ever, bristles with power. Should be required viewing for any young band. Hüsker Dü took the European atmospherics (in Bob's guitar) and showed people like U2's the Edge that American rockers can make this kind of music too. Grant's drumming is crisp and effortless and Greg is really laying it down too. Big finish at 2:59 is pure exiliration and I dare any expert writer to try to transcribe it: life and joy, mi amigos!
Absolutely unbelievable... and Mould still rocks to this day. Every time I think I've finally "got it", and know "where he's at", I arrive at his next release only to find he's moved away, and still leading me off further into the musical underbrush... but I still love looking back at the path I've travelled following him.
takes me back to my troubled youth. tossed from school in bc, sent me to the 'peg in manitoba to live with grandma. my cousin promised me if i kept out of the priciples office for a month, he would take me to a concert. he took me (and underaged teen) to Husker Du at the Marble Arches (or was it Arms)? the raw intensity of the at feedback laced guitar still gives me goosebumps 20+ years on. my cousin, he still lives in 'peg (works for the Winnipeg City PD) thanx Gordie! John
Outrageously beautiful, these guys were. I feel like people who missed out on them in the day don't get their appeal. Thx for the post--it brought me back to a time when Husker Du was the only thing in my life that made me smile.
For as long as I can remember I've thought Husker Du's version of this song was the best cover version of them all. This live version does nothing to make me change my mind
this band too change my life and has pulled me out of depression a few times... still this song and practically the entire CANDY APPLE GREY gets me feelin good!
I occasionally watch this video after a few months of not watching and I just can't stop myself headbanging and jumping around the room. Such a terrific release of energy, plus I'm doing tons of revision right now so I seriously needed that.
I saw Husker Du 9 times. still miss them. grant hart's new cd is pretty good. but hart doesn't look in the best of health. mould has made a couple of decent solo efforts. byrds version is still amazing as well.
Thank you for your comment! I’m pretty old now (62), and have heard and lived through/with many styles over the years. When some style or any other is popular, the natural response for many to say that this or that style is the ‘best ever’. How about - like you - appreciating each one for its own unique sound/style/power. It doesn’t need to be a contest.
In 1987 i was 18. Now i am 48. This music was made for my life.
Hüsker Dü will never die.
Same age, certain bands at that time you just knew were something special-Naked Raygun/Husker Du are usually the first two to come to my mind.
I'm around your age. I bought Zen Arcade on cassette when I was 14 out of curiosity. So glad I did. :)
Amen brother.
I agree I’m 50 now. Best band of our era. I loved oI poloi too because the drummer is my long time friend but there music is awesome too
Same age checkin' in. Shout out to the first time I heard Dinosaur Jr. I didn't know if it was a joke, or some sort of secret, but it was etched forever.

Man we had it good back then
This was the first video I ever watched on youtube
Good choice
Me too. I return to it all the time.... So good.
Me too! Sick video!
hard to disalike
Who cares, exactly why does anyone else need to know that?
Bob's screaming communicates more than most singers could hope to say with a life time of words. Hits you in the guts so hard.
It is so powerful and emotional
It hits almost like Kurt's at the end of Where Did You Sleep Last Night
Exactly.
Oh fuck I miss this band. So much sound from so few people.
Did you get to see them at the Agora in 87?
one of the best live performances of all time
RIP Grant Hart. You will be missed.
Nooo he didn’t die it is a lie he is around us in the spring morn and in every winter Dawn, don’t think those you love are gone we live forever in our song. . .
Poem by me written to comfort you. And to comfort me and everyone who loved him
I've had this 45 for years. I used to play it for people who mocked punk without ever having heard it. Some were appalled. Most were amazed.
u owned the single for 60 years now?
2023 - 15 year old post, - 45 years of ownership = 1963.
@@jeffreyhart500they mean they had that single (45 rpm) for years.
It was amazing and emotional music, particularly Husker Du and Bob’s haunting guitar sound. People didn’t understand punk. There is so much good music from that time. I’m so glad I lived through that time with friends I still have to this day.
best cover to this song ever, guitars are so beatiful, the bass is awesome, and bob's singing so powerful

Burned out this song.Plus Zen Arcade album. My top ten
A legendary band that will never have the recognition it truly deserves.
They were a miracle... End of story
The power of this song had the trees swaying in compliance.
THIS is the way how to cover a song! Give it your spirit, your way of music, of life...
Every year I come back for a fix.
Me too
It was just in my head now and I just had to hear it. This is a good clip. Their music was so much a part of my life in my punk days. Still love it.
Every couple of months for me
This is beautiful beyond beleif. What intensity out of 3 instruments! Woah! Only the very very best can play like this, and you can not see such a live act easily any more. Hate to say such big words, but its probably one of the finest moments in rock history, this humble video!
Glorious, glorious noise.
That's about as well put as well put gets.
Noise? Try to play any one instruments part!
@@samyandkitty8399 This cacophony is beautiful. Dichotomy. Have a wonderful day.
This is the sound of goosebumps being born!
The best ever cover = Period!
I always had thought that Blinded by the light was the best. I have changed my mind. Bob Grant and Greg are sick.
Hurt by Mr cash
woah, i love the changes he made to the vocal melody after recording the EP. this song soars.
This is an ancient comment!
Bob Mould made this song, Husker's Du's own.
I literally cannot thank you enough for posting this. Husker is my fav all-time band, and this....I got tears in my eyes.
the best cover (in its best performance) ever. ever. it makes me wanna cry every time.
One of my regular revisit clips whenever I need to feel revved up. Great cover.
I was there, 87, Pinkpop, 21 years old, time flies...
Great Video! One of the greatest covers of all time. I just love the way Bob's singing turns into a roar in the end when the songs builts up to its destructive finale...in the single you can hear it better but this a great testimony of those times when being independent still meant something...
ayeayeayeayeaye!!! haughhaughaughhhaugh! followed by awaheeeywaheeeywaheeeywaheeey! brilliant xx
14 years old at the time and my first festival... Husker Du!!
Classic...no words...just listen to the power of this band
I was there. It was magic.
What an great cover by an incredible band. I saw them live twice back in the '80's and they really whipped the crowd into a frenzy. They were just a few years ahead of their time, breaking up in the 80's brfore the grundge bands of the nineties came along and borrowed heavily from them.
Awesome!! Taking this Byrds song to new dimension!
and the smell of rain around his warm voice... ashes of life blowing in emotion. speechless.
Seriously just how good were they. I'd love to have seen this live. My favourite band
Just bloody glorious!! This track never ages. Thankyou for posting. RIP Grant Hart
Great reworking of a classic song. HD tore this one up.
I've heard Bob sing this song, scream this song, or some combination of both. Always sounds brilliant
RIP Grant! Your drumming will be missed! :(
and his great singing and lyrics
Incredible rendition. Impossible to grasp the song. So rare.
Love the Dutch moshers
FANTASTIC BAND! this voice.. this instrumetal.. touch direclty my heart 🎤🥁

My fave song of all time.
A fantastic band I love every song they did. But this is by far the best cover version I have ever heard in my life
Amazing three instruments can make this wall of sound……moulds monotone is just awesome
what a fantastic cover of a great song by the best band in the world at the time. Still see bob when he,s touring and he's still got the edge. Way impressive guy!!!
please don't ever delete this channel/video. thanks
That's a fantastic version, especially considering they were falling apart at the seams by this point; Bob's guitar sounds like a Boeing descending! Still waiting on the entire Hüsker discography getting its well-deserved remastering...
Sadly 15 years later nothing happened.
I’ve been coming here every day for the last six years and I can’t see stopping ever
The very first growl from Bob's voice gave me shivers. What an incredible band and an inspired performance. I'm fortunate to have seen them play in Chicago.

"Where are you going? YOUu..."
This melody an lyrics describle the alternative. Beautiful!
Was there, great concert, but due 2 stormy weather bad sound
So ahead of their time!
Amazed to say that this is better than the single version. Such a great bassist

Soon i will be 54 and i love it so fucking much
I used to play this all of the time when I was a DJ in college... .
This is the best cover EVER. The energy and the melody at their best,
I wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for Husker Du (among others) and I love where I am now... thanks to whoever posted this song...
Surely someone can remaster this beautiful cover of a surreal masterpiece sometime in the future.

In the top 5 of my favorite bands.
Listen to the INTENSITY! Not many bands mean it these days. I LOVED Husker Du.
Love Hüsker Dü forever!
And sporting the longest guitar-strap in history, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bob Mould !!
Brilliant cover. Great musicians, great songwriters, great taste in music.
Criminally overlooked, for now.
A lot of hope in this voice and song
God this song makes me cry...everytime. What a fucking time to be alive! Nobody holds a candle to that energy! Fuck i wish i was 16 again...
Love Greg's grey onesie
What an iconic voice.
I feel myself eight miles high since I've heard and seen it. They're simply expressing my life.
It may have been a gloomy day but they gave a hell of a performance on this song. As much as I like this Byrds, this is a better interpretation.
What a band 🔥
Husker Du is the best
thanks on video
One of the best bands.
HD at their best - superb!

Meu deus isso é maravilhoso obrigado por existir isso
Demais mesmo explodiu minha mente
Husker Du é a melhor coisa desse universo
Oh, FUCK YEAH!!!!
"sign sign sign signs.. WHERE ARE You Going!"- Huskers- my alltime favorite-
changed my life in '84
Wow.. His guitar sounds like a goddamn thunderstorm.
I come back to hear this every couple of months and had to today in Grant's honor.
I hadn't heard this one before, really good.
It took me too damn long to find this version of Eight Miles High...made my day !
This is absolutely amazing.
I feel blessed to enjoy this music....LOUD :-)
Wow. Just awesome.
my favourite song of all time
bought the 45 rpm 30 years ago and this is still my fave
My god. Thanks a LOT for posting this.
I saw them at the Agora Ballroom in Hartford Connecticut that same year!
Pure greatness.... thank you
My favorite band of all time covers the best song by my other favorite band of all time. It just doesn't get better than this.
