I had a college show too. Husker Du, Meat Puppets, the Cure, Violent Femmes, The Smiths, REM were regular rotation then they'd let the DJ put in anything they wanted. I was a Clash, Bad Brains, The Police (B-sides deep tracks no hits ;), Fishbone, 24-7 Spyz, etc. Plus some industrial Skinny Puppy, Ministry mixed in for good measure.

I was a dirty 25 yr old punk kid traveling by train from Portland to NY and was sitting outside the Chicago train station. A man that looked as if he had lived three lives of travel and partying approached me and struck up conversation about the patches of various bands I had sewn on my sweatshirt. I braced myself for yet another scam or person begging for money.
But they introduced themselves and it was Grant. I was so ashamed for not being super familiar with him or his band because I was aware of their significance. He didn't really talk about Husker Du, but he was really sweet, and was just asking me about being a young punk (this was maybe around 2009) and what my life at shows in northern CA and Portland were like. When I'd ask about the band he'd give a few details but then steer the conversation elsewhere, with a ton of punk info. I guess I don't really have a point, I just wanted to share, that at that moment in time Grant made an impression on me. And I left feeling really stoked on life and proud of the life that I was living despite not always feeling that way.

The RRHoF hates mid-west bands. It doesn't matter how good their music was/is or the effect they had on music, the movers and shakers of the music industry loathe bands or musicians blue collar, working class mid-west bands. One of my all time fave bands. I bought ''Warehouse:Songs and Stories'' as soon as it came out in 1987. Already had their other albums, all on vinyl. I was 25. Had the lp sticker on a wall for several years. Great band and great times. Still play their lps over and over. Criminal that they didn't make it really big, same with The Replacements. Thanks for the posting.

I graduated from hardcore punk to Husker Du and IRS era REM gradually in the mid 1980s until everything else sounded like greasy kid stuff.
But I haven't listened to this in almost twenty years and it still sounds relevant and fresh - the video is timeless, yet ten years ahead of it's own time.
And I only just found out what the bands name means!
    Thank God for the InterNets...

This video got played at the end of a 120 Minutes episode when I was about 15. It was my introduction to Hüsker Dü and I was immediately hooked. I had taped that particular episode and watched this video over and over. Until I picked up Flip Your Wig I thought the MTM theme cover was just part of the song.

We got to open for Bob Mould last year in Sydney and it was the best gig ever. Not only was he amazing (and he closed with this song), but his fans were of a very different breed than most. Top stuff. Love this song especially. Royal Chant - Did You Pay Cash For That Panic Attack?

Man, there is so much Minnesota happening here!! IDS Tower, Husker Du, and that bit tribute to Mary Tyler Moore at the end on Nicollet Mall.
If we had a President from Minnesota-we wouldn't be suffering from lack of Phenomenal Music in this country.

favorite song on my favorite husker record. Full disclosure: i may be biased, since I got into the band after Sugar (because Sugar existed when I was 14), and this is the song/record from which I think the sugar sound came. But whatever ... husker is a top 10 band.

Awesome song! I love that they used the lyrics of The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song (the theme song from the later seasons of the show, not the early seasons) in the latter part of this song. From 2:34 and thereafter, you're basically rockin' to The MTM Show! You did know that, didn't you? Go ahead and see for yourself!...
