Has there so far been a more powerful trio in music? I could watch this until the end of time and not get tired of it. Explosive and endlessly influential.
holy crap! this is the best video of Husker Du live that I have ever seen!!!!!!! Amazing. the camera has captured the real emotion of the song..... wow... I've been a fan of theirs for 20some years, and I think this is one of the coolest videos of Husker Du out there.....thank you@!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Enda Dorgan I remember reading an interview with Kurt Cobain in the early 90s, he credited Bob Mould as the father of the type of music Kurt was making.
I am thirty, so i started listening to (interesting) music around 1990. Seeing this makes me feel like i was born too late. But this has still so much relevance, in every way.
@nirvanapnk16 Hear Hear! People still seem to be obsessing over that & it only serves to detract from the freshness & passion of the music. I wish I'd been into the band back in '81 (when I was 11 & into Soft Cell & The Police!) This show looks fantastic!
I think there would be a lot more useful posts and discussions if the debate over the sexual orientation of Bob and Grant would cease. The band never put a premium or importance on the subject for a reason because its totally irrelevant when listening to music of this high merit
As soon as they were done with one thing, they were right on to the next. I saw them just before Zen Arcade came out and they were already playing stuff from New Day Rising.
The undisputed kings of well designed speed. How do you think they did all that they did? Speed. Please try to imagine how long the boys stayed in that hot kitchen turning out consistently grand pop punk confections. Anyone who wants to petition HD for the RR Hall of Fame, I can write and would love to help. As 29 years have elapsed since their beginning they are now officially eligible.
I remember buying metal circus the first day it arrived in NYC took it home to listen my girlfiend came over and of course her name was diane when the song came on it was a bit akward she had no clue of course seeing the boys in NYC the first time they played there i knew what was coming.
houstonveer: can u imagine the RnR Hall of Fame inducting the Huskers? Maybe 1% of all music gets promulgated via mainstream radio or zine push etc and most of that sucks. Unfortunately that is the ilk that gets recognized. I know the Skers got some run in Rolling Stone but C'mon. Imagine Bukowski or Hunter S as required prep school reading. Love to be wrong about this but I'm not. SmokinStubs, Bob and Grant were openly gay and everybody who followed them knew it, grow up!
In reply to lolmenot, I love both versions. But I don't think I could compare them. It just depends what mood I'm in when I have to answer which I like more. They're completely different but both great. Therapy? did it their way and can be commended for at least not doing a straight rip of the song and putting a different spin on it. Amazing Husker song.
zsa zsa sapian It is indeed. In fact, I've often wondered if the 1986 cult classic film 'River's Edge' (starring a very young Keanu Reeves and Crispin Glover) was heavily inspired by this... 😉
Chartered trips? Everything falls apart? Celebrated summer? Those are fantastically written songs by Bob just to name a few. Stop comparing the two and just admit Husker Du was an amazing band
Early example of heavy flange on bass .... awesome sound

Sad thing is, nobody under 40 remembers.
I'm 24 going on 25 and I'm a huge fan, but I know what you mean.
kilmister/clarke/taylor ??
@@feannag1 Good shout!
@@LexionCombine Obvious exaggeration, but there are plenty in the new generation that love the old school icons. Not all hope is lost :)
Absolutely stunning performance
Let the Demons rest . God speed. RIP Legend Grant Hart
Incredible band.
woah, this sound is like 10 years ahead of its time. reminds me of early 90s indie rock, and here it is in '81...wow!
Pixies said this was their biggest influence
1983
@@krusher181 after Husker Du broke up, Bob did a tour with Pixies. I saw them in a lunch room at San Jose State University. Incredible show.
holy crap! this is the best video of Husker Du live that I have ever seen!!!!!!! Amazing. the camera has captured the real emotion of the song..... wow...

First Grunge song ever - true inventors. RIP Grant!
ForARide - true they started the grunge scene very influential band.
@Enda Dorgan I remember reading an interview with Kurt Cobain in the early 90s, he credited Bob Mould as the father of the type of music Kurt was making.
The Wipers
Absolutely the best document of this intense band on their home turf.
The best live band EVER... I've seen them perform once at the Orpheum cafe in Duluth,MN on a very cold winter night circa late 80S.
Holy cow, I didn’t know they played it THIS early into their careers!
Weren't we lucky to have seen so many great bands like the Huskers, etc. I wish I could go back there again.
Yeah I’m jealous... most of what we have now is a couple bands who’ve been around for a while. Like Godspeed YBE.
Yes, yes it is. Metal Circus EP, track 6.
Simply the best fucking song ever written.
this is still one of my fav husker songs. and I can believe i'm seeing such an awesome live performance of it.
What a Magnificat trio. Grant Hart your dead but never forgotten.
I don't think Greg had his mustache until Everything Falls Apart in 1982
this is fucking stunning. such a great tune and such pure fucking passion. who has got it now
2:47 what a performance.
holy shit grant, that jaws gonna hurt in the morning....
how could anyone dislike this?

But this has still so much relevance, in every way.
You’re 43 now? Man I’m 27... imagine my feelings seeing dead Kennedy’s shows and whatnot. I’m annoyed at my generation for being boring.
by the best band that there ever was
they fucking nailed this performance
Oh my God, thats Larry Bird on guitar
whahahahah/ make my day
I love this so much! The Twin Cities and 🌎 will never be the same without Grant🖤 gone 4 years😿
Randy Quaid is going to play Bob Mould in the new Husker Du movie. I can't wait.

Great song.
@Bilbicus I guess you're not familiar with why their debut album is called "Land Speed Record", which was recorded 3 weeks before at the same venue.
Elwyn Chow Or, as Bob said in 'See a Little Light': "We covered a lot of land, we did everything with great speed, and yes, we made a record..."
As soon as they were done with one thing, they were right on to the next. I saw them just before Zen Arcade came out and they were already playing stuff from New Day Rising.
Their headbands are better than Loverboys
Incredible
Real first rate Utube gem!!!
Grant is Awesome!
Grant is porky and Bob is thin! what a turnaround lol. Fuckin brill song
My heart is breaking.
Fuck yeah, a big part of the song for me.
Try once again. Very much appriciated spiritual sag to listen to your news. Much love.
CLASSIC!!!
Nice footage, thx for the music ;)
@Elnor666 This show is about 2 weeks after LSR was recorded.
HUSKERchout amazed that they were already playing Diane in '81
Wonder what they did to bob to cause that little warning at 1:53
Some guy on the front row is jerking around with Bob's microphone stand. 1:35
What is Bob gesturing to the guy in the audience about?
I think he kept messing with his mic stand
Yes, he's using a pick to play the chords.

Damn son, where’d you find this?
esto es la onda cool
So great
Stole the land speed record from my best friend when we were kids..I couldn't help myself
I remember buying metal circus the first day it arrived in NYC took it home to listen my girlfiend came over and of course her name was diane when the song came on it was a bit akward she had no clue of course seeing the boys in NYC the first time they played there i knew what was coming.
Was this at the December 17, 1983 show at the Danceteria? Thank you.
they were great
Grant Hart forever
best song ever so scary
hart is tripping his face off...
Found these guys too late😪
never too late
I think he may have had some speed tucked underneath; in the tradition of Hendrix?
Begs the question: Are sweatbands punk rock?
*Flanger* actually on bass
Thx! You made my day! =)
THIS RULES!!!!!
@nirvanapnk16 couldnt agree more sexual preference is meaningless.great band great music.thats what counts.my favourite band of all time love them

The performance date can’t be right. The song wasn’t released until 83. So many great Husker shows at the Entry
Released in 83 but performed as early as 81! Gravity was also played at this show and wasn’t released till 83
Can't believe he's gone
@thethunderlord666 Fanger pedal on the guitar
who cares they are both just a great little side note in musical history nowadays lets enjoy them and not argue over it
Grant Hart rules!
I like their cover, but it seems impossible that a cover can beat an original version.
so sick
one of the best,if not theeee best rock love song, aldough dedicated from grant to bob mould, but who cares about genders in this shaky moments, tiki
I knew about the song before she ever heard it.
Is this song recorded and rel. on record?
Where can I find this song?
Metal Circus
In reply to lolmenot, I love both versions. But I don't think I could compare them. It just depends what mood I'm in when I have to answer which I like more.
They're completely different but both great. Therapy? did it their way and can be commended for at least not doing a straight rip of the song and putting a different spin on it.
Amazing Husker song.
I can't tell what Bob's so annoyed with at the beginning... Anybody know?
Probably someone bitching….it’s all in fun!
I miss the days of basement hc punk sets and sweaty slam dancing before they were called mosh pits.
Does anybody know what the, “Fucking quit your bitching,” was all about?
Again an old playlist. . James zeig dich an und nimm ma n paar Familienmitglied er von mir und dir mit.......Heute wäre nett
yeah totally
💔
tell em bob, yes, i remember
!!!!!!!!
@NoVelocityF i would have been really eager to again, but i probably wouldn't have "killed" to do so lol
Thank God that was captured. I'm still in awe.
Original grunge!
but loverboy had the way cool red leather pants
This Guys had 17 seventenn
therapy? what therapy??
ditto rob halford.
Sex, DRUGS & Rockn'Roll :p
does that mean a film director like roman polanski is a misogynist. it just a dark tale
zsa zsa sapian It is indeed. In fact, I've often wondered if the 1986 cult classic film 'River's Edge' (starring a very young Keanu Reeves and Crispin Glover) was heavily inspired by this... 😉
ha
Роскошно (Pizdato)!
Grant Hart was writing actual songs this early. Bob couldn't hold a csndle to Grant as a songwriter. He still can't. Monster guitar player though.
Chartered trips? Everything falls apart? Celebrated summer? Those are fantastically written songs by Bob just to name a few. Stop comparing the two and just admit Husker Du was an amazing band
meh, the therapy? version sucks (and I like Therapy?)
I'm a misogynist, but not by choice. I hate the way I am
Pip
you forgot to mention
THE REPLACEMENTS
Between Hart and Mould, Grant Hart was the better songwriter and this is one of his best songs.
Teen spirit suck.
White people rocks
This was cool, but the cover by therapy is better.
