My tattoos are “Memorial tattoos” in memory of my dad that passed. You’re right- there is something deeper going on. It was part of my mourning process. As a Catholic, I suppose I could have found a different way to mourn… thanks for the reflection, Father.
Father David, I went to Catholic school for 8 years in the 1960s. I had mostly Sisters during those years. In religion class, they always said no tattoos because our bodies are Temples of the Holy Spirit. As such, a tattoo was considered a desecration of the Temple. They also explained that it was the same with over-eating, over-indulging in alcohol, etc. It's as much a health/safety thing. I know there are a lot of instances out there of people who got hepatitis and other diseases due to bad needles.
I agree 100% To be fair (warning…imminent buzzkill coming)…just about any hobby can be viewed in this light too if it is purely done for “self-fulfillment”.
Could you imagine Padre Pio getting a tattoo, or Don Bosco, even John Vianney? We are here for a much higher purpose. A noble purpose! Jesus had one concern and that was for the salvation of souls. Yes, we live in the world but we are preparing for eternity!
I just came back to the faith last year and i followed Buddhism for a while and got a lot of paganism tattooed all over my body during that time. Its EXTREMEMLY HARD! to prove to everyone I've changed with all that plastered on my body.
God knows you have changed,❤ continue prayer and living the faith and you will notice how people will start seeing you for the new you and nothing more.
@ I was Norse Pagan and a Satanist before I converted to Catholicism. I have Norse tattoos. I’m just wondering what the church’s thoughts on that are, considering I was pagan when I got them.
@@JaxAttax451 I would cover them or have them altered. I don't have any tattoos but my brother often got them for $20 or so from a tattoo apprentice that needed practice. maybe that could be an affordable option for you
@@JaxAttax451Oh you should take it to a Priest that will pray over it! It should be delivered until it no longer has any meaning. I have one with negative connotation (I don't know the correct English for this) & have a plan to take it to a Priest. God✝️bless.
I got my first tattoo about 28 years ago and then had it covered with the Sacred Heart. I have a few more patriot tattoos with my Charlie Brown on my leg. I have been thinking about getting another one but like all the others, I waited over a year. If I still wanted it, I got it. I do want to get a Jesus in Greek tattoo so it will be a conversation starter about the faith but I don't know. I'm still thinking about it.
I have a small Jerusalem cross on my right arm. It's started exactly one conversation in the past six or seven years that I've had it-- and that's ok. I didn't get it for anyone but myself. Something really traumatic happened, I almost walked away from my faith, and I got it as a recommitment.
Enjoyed the video, it express’s and stressed your central theme, how by our thoughts, then actions actually glorify Our Lord, are our actions getting closer to what He wishes and wants us to do, or is it mainly about what we like to do…
I usually find that those who are most insistent on brandishing imagery as a sign of their faith, whether it is through tattoos or wearing some gaudy cross or crucifix, generally don't demonstrate the sacrifice for their religious ideals. It is the sacrifice for ones spiritual beliefs which is the most reliable demonstration of the genuineness of ones faith.
I think of it this way: God created you in His image, so why change it permentaly? We can lose weight which I recommend and get healthy but a tattoo is permeant also yes you can get rid of it but there will still be scarring.
There's no quick fix to living the faith ! That's the way it is ! Live with it , love it and deal with it ! No tattoos please ! Please respect God's temple ! Amen 🙏 😊
Do what you want for self expression. Art is art. But ancient mezo American seers recommend keeping skin free of pigments and oils to better perceive energy. The spirit of seeing is the spirit of Jesus.
Prescinding from the nature of the tattoos image, by their nature, tattoos draw attention to oneself. So there is a question of sin even if it's an image of the Sacred Heart.
I wanted to get a big tattoo in between my shoulder blades when i was younger. It was gonna be jesus on the cross. But the old style where you could see the open flesh wounds and his actual suffering, instead of the watered down version we see all over. I didn't get it, because I had to start buying diapers. Its a shame i couldn't get it, but I have no regrets.
Plus…. Tattoos are expensive. Is it the best use of ones’ money? Is the ink safe for your skin or does it have toxins that might affect ones’ health? I don’t know but I sure wouldn’t get one.

get laser erase bc when you die you die with sin on your body, the temple of the holy spirit

I want the indelible mark of Baptism, Confirmation and in the case of Ordination for a priest.❤

Thank You Father for clearing my doubt. I actually don't like tattoos but I always doubted whether God likes or dislikes tattoos
and yes, please wear the fake tattoo sleeves some time and get people's reaction. would be a fun video.
Thank you father. And the sleeves would be fun.
Why people want to make their beautiful body look ugly with tattoos? I don’t understand 😢

The Priest at the parish I attend has extensive tattoos on both arms.
What do tattoos say about a person?
they use to have a thousand dollars
I know Catholics who have tattoos of Saint Michael. While that's neat, I would rather have my rosary with a Saint Michael medal on it.

Well, but that is just your opinion that these two things constradicts each other.
