  • Fr. Mike Schmitz gives us some things to consider before getting a tattoo. If we do choose to place permanent marks on our bodies, Fr. Mike advises us to make sure the marks portray values we’ll always identify with and live up to, because tattoos do inevitably say something about who we are.

Bro do not get into religion. The best advice I can give you, and the best advice anybody can give you, is for you to read the Bible yourself with a humble heart.
Jesus never claimed to be religious, he never said he followed any religion, nor did his disciples practiced any religion either, they practiced and preached what Jesus told them. In fact, it was religious people who got Jesus killed.
I see a lot of catholics having a big misconception regarding the Bible, many of them don't read it. The pope, which is supposed to be the highest person in this religion said that God didn't have a problem with homosexuals, which is completely false if you look at the scripture. Another thing that shocks me is confession, the fact that many catholics go to confession and ask priests for forgiveness. Only God can forgive, when you confess and repent, repent and confess to God alone.
Forget about religion, is man made, read the Bible. Remember; always scripture.

Personally , I don't mind seeing a small tattoo , but tattoos all over the body is something the priest was talking about as 'worship' other that God. And, while I think times are changing and they are being more accepted in a business or formal occasion (I think probably because there are so many with them) what happens when at 18 you get your tat but then you go to school and you decide to go into a conservative field - where they are not usually a part of the lifestyle...... or you meet the girl of your dream and either she or her family does not care for them. But , I understand now, although painful, some of them can be removed.

@Leanne Vogel You are right. People often look to religion because it offers a way to fill the spiritual void, and yet how could anything written by man (tainted by his own mind/hand/views) be THE monopoly on God. Finding higher truth, higher peace is the responsibility of the seeker, and if/when it is found, it need NOT be proselytized OR evangelized. So, that's basically my issue with the church. It's like 3rd party relationship with the divine.
However, I DO believe that some men and women seek for God and truth purely. It's just where some wind up that I find questionable. And so, I'd even say that there ARE priests and men of all religions that TRULY mean well, and they are fantastic, amazing, compassionate people, but they are sort of obligated to using the vehicle of mainstream religion to pass on wisdom. It's like that saying about "I don't have a problem with Jesus Christ. It's most of his followers I can't stand". Lol
And to add to THAT: Are they REALLY even true followers of Christ (which technically means to live a minimalist Christ-like life)? And at what point do people get all caught up in the orthodoxy? Life holds a LOT of gray area. Just saying. 🤷‍♂️
I HOPE I didn't offend anyone's religion, I assure you I meant no disrespect. I also hope that explains to what some of the other commenters asked here as well. Either way, I wish to ALL of you a good life of truth and wisdom, and compassion, and that we all leave the world a slightly better place than it was before.

Leviticus also states: ‘Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material', so it's mainly Jewish prohibitions and the only reference to tattoos in the Bible. I see these comments: ‘Your body is a Temple’ and ‘You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.’ Fair enough, but do you in turn fully respect your body through regular exercise, good nutrition, non-smoking or fasting? Having tattoos is not necessarily a sin, but being obese definitely is because it's linked to gluttony and is, essentially, slow suicide. I have four tattoos, the main one being Psalm 91:2 in Latin on my inner forearm. I had these done to stay in faith and, for me, they work, but everything Fr Mike says here is absolutely correct: glorify the Lord by your actions - and try not to have a tattoo, especially if you’re young. Viva Cristo Rey.

Exactly. The Old Testament was written for Jews and it’s odd to me that pastors and priests read out of that book more than the New Testament.

Im so glad I found you! I’m new to your channel. I love your attitude. I’m 18 and Protestant Christian, but lately I’ve just been feeling a shift. I’ve never hated Catholicism and I’ve always had an open mind. Ever since I can remember people had always prayed for me and prophesied over me. I’ve heard time and time again that I have a beautiful gift of wisdom and an anointing for ministry, but as I dig deeper into the word and start to get more intimate with God the more it steers me towards Catholicism. I still have a lot to learn, but I was just wondering if you had any videos on converting or if you had advice on it and how to grow in ministry. I will forever seek the truth and hopefully you or someone sees this cuz I’m very curious and seek help. I feel kind of scared and alone to be honest. My family and friends seem to be very against conversion.

Every time someone asks me why I chose it, I remember that it held me together just knowing...He is everything. I am nothing. Yet He says that, I am HIS. That's what it means to me and whether I go left or right, it IS a constant reminder of not just my identity but to live it as His treasured possession as described in the Exodus events. Today, it is one of many that I proudly wear for rest of my life. I love sharing the meaning of all of them in praise of my God.

      @AluminiumT6 3 года назад +25

@Ash*&* Nate The Catholic Church has been in Rome since at least the 1st century, where Saints Peter and Paul were martyred. The word "Katholikos", in English, "Catholic", which means "Universal", appears for the first time in the Epistle to the Smyrnaeans of St. Ignatius of Antioch, who lived between 50 AD and 107 AD (other sources put the latter at 117 AD). He was the Bishop of Antioch from 70 AD to the date of his martyrdom.
In 313 AD, Emperor Constantine promulgated the Edict of Milan, which legalized Christianity throughout the Roman Empire and stopped the state persecutions. In 325 AD, Emperor Constantine called for an ecumenical council (a gathering of the Church's bishops), which became the First Council of Nicea, the first Ecumenical Council of the Church. It was attended by 318 bishops, according to St. Athanasius of Alexandria. This council did unify doctrine and solved points of serious contention, and from it came the Creed of Nicea (or Apostolic Symbol) which is adhered to by Christians.

Leviticus 19:28 is talking about the High Priest, if you were the High Priest and you were expected to go in once a year and offer up oblations and sacrifice for the people then it's true you weren't supposed to mark yourself like the pagans. That's the context. Plus Paul says he bears the mark of Christ in his flesh Galatians 6:17 I could consider a tattoo of a cross to be that. In Revelations 19:16 it says Jesus will have King of Kings and Lord of Lords written in his thigh; to me that sounds like some sort of tattoo.

The four small crosses denote the mandate to spread the Gospel to the four corners of the earth. The red signifies the blood that was shed for our sins... @@davynehynds9815 When I spoke to the Priest before getting this tattoo, I was told that two things must be considered. The motivation of getting the tattoo and the meaning of the tattoo itself. This tattoo's meaning and intent are the same. To glorify God. For a sin to be grave it has to consciously chosen, willfully undertaken and with full awareness of the disobedience. God doesn't lay traps to trick people into sin. So if this tattoo is displeasing to God I will one day know for certain. But that judgement is unlikely to come through an anonymous posting on the internet...

When I came home with my first tattoo, my dad looked at it, frowned, and said in a calm, even voice, 'that's a nice tattoo, and if I see another one on you, I'm taking off the limb.' I never got another one.

I have a cross behind my ear as a reminder to listen to his word before others. I struggled with making others happy and neglecting my self. The word of God brought me out of my depression. Made me realize faith is a helping hand. But it is not a constant cure. So its just a reminder that the only judgment or words I need about my self come through christ. So I don't believe he will deny me for it.
