Esther's sign in ASL(American Sign Language) is actually the letter "E" for Esther cuz obviously it's the initial lettter for her name and when Cory try to do the hand sign the mom did he actually did wrong n it looked more like the letter A to be honest.

They didn't? It's more of a "oh you are bad people - go demon child destroy them"! It's ok to cheer for villains, when the whole protagonist family was actually awful.
The somewhat closed fist motion the mom did to sign for Esther is the sign for the letter E, it would be time consuming to spell out her name every time you mention her name so they just sign E for Esther. It’s kind of a rule that a deaf person has to give you a sign for your name in sign language normally it’s something about you plus like the first letter of your first or last name for example I was friends with this girl named Cameron who was hard-of-hearing and she babysat and worked with deaf and/or hard-of-hearing kids and she wore space buns in her hair A LOT so a deaf kid told her her sign name could be signing the letter C in both hands but gesturing them above your head as if you have space buns and she liked it and it stuck with her so that’s her name in sign language but it would be something totally different for another person with the name Cameron tho.
@@krosssword I knowww it’s very cool and I also like that a deaf person has to give you your name too it’s like a welcoming to the community in a way and also just shows what stands out from you to that person
somewhat of a fun fact. When the mom calls the insane asylum, she goes "Do you speak English?" and then the worker replies. Captions say *speaking russian*, well actually the worker said "Kuidas palun?" which would be "Im sorry/Excuse me?" in Estonian and not Russian lol
I think you guys are a perfect example of that meme that talks about red flags in people and ignoring every single one of them 😂 the fact y’all were chill with her both pushing a child but also smashing a bird and Nick not noticing the whole flower thing like that is crazy lol
I think you are missing the point, where people can cheer for the villain. The mother in this one has been way too paranoid for half of the movie about the disturbed child she was meant to take care of. Talking about red flags of adopted child is wild.
32:41 I’m no expert on ASL/sign language in general, but as far as I know, names can receive certain signs instead of being spelled out every single time (cause that would take way too long in a normal conversation), and the sign she is making with her hand during “Esther” is an “E”, so I’d assume it’s the sign used for her name in the film :)
@@rumham7466 no, it took them a minute to remember what those flowers were, but then they remembered and one of them literally said "that's fucked". it just took them a moment to remember lol
No it’s not a true story. Because in the real story « Esther » (Natalia Grace) was actually a kid with dwarfism and her adoptive parents just wanted to get rid of her so they came with this, abused and abandoned her. The adoptive mother was also probably a bit psychotic. Since this case Natalia is now a grown woman (22) and she looks like one too. That’s so sad that this movie is still affiliated to her bcs she was literally just a mistreated child that wasn’t capable to defend herself.
@soleneoverwrought3992 I saw stuff saying it was claimed to be loosely based on Barbora Skrlova, a Czech woman who became notorious for her involvement in a child abuse case and her ability to deceive people into believing she was a child herself. She pretend to be a 13 year old boy but she was 33.
@soleneoverwrought3992 yeah also I found out some of the original scripts of orphan happened as far as 2007. So I don't see how it could be based on that
Max is a little angel from the sky sent to protect her family . Unfortunately she's also a very young , deaf little girl 😞 she endured so much for her family poor baby girl !!!
An adopted child is not a step sibling, unless one of the parents remarries someone else with children. It’s the exact same as it is for biological children. Your child is your child. You might be thinking of foster children, which is an entirely different situation.
The second movie is a prequel, and is well worth a watch. Esther is played by the same actor, despite her being an adult when it was filmed. They relied completely on makeup, practical effects, and filming from different perspectives instead of using CGI. ✌️
this is actually "kind of" based off a true story. the girl never killed anyone but there are multiple documentaries on her. she was a couple years older than the parents thought she was and they changed her birth date to say she was really old when really she was only 9 instead of 6 the original thought age. it is an actual condition.
@@joboylan7 yes i think they believed she was 6 and she was actually 9, born in 2003 i think. and the parents changed her birth year to like 1989 or something like that; fully convinced she was lying and made her live on her own in an apartment and she basically had to mature fast. and the 'dad' was an actual pos, she just had spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, it's actually sad for the girl but she's also just traumatized making her weird in actuality because she never got to experience a correct childhood.
What is the true story behind Orphan? Orphan is based on a disturbing true story of a woman, Barbora Skrlová, who posed as a 13-year-old boy in Norway.
The fact you apparently didn't realize which behavior is normal and which behavior was a red flag for kids make me realize the current you right now not going to be a good parents. Sorry to say that.
What are you talking about? They literally knew what is wrong, they have been calling out the alcoholic mother for being paranoid, when with what she knew - there was barely anything wrong with the kid. The red flag is you thinking a good parent would act like those parents, instead of actually trying to help the adopted kid.
