Today we are not going to look at all the usual scams from places like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo and GoFundMe but instead look at some of the best (slightly less heard of) video games that have come from Kickstarter in what is possibly the 1st ever positive Kickscammer episode ever!

Slope, is there a way i can talk to you in private about something to do with Kickstarter Scams? i was involved in one that's getting NO attention at all, the guy stole 85K, and is now posting like nothing ever happened, and it really pisses me off.. if i could email you about it, and you could mention it in a video i think it would be really helpful. though its not Video Game related, sadly.. more Art/3D Print related, but still..
Crap. i think it would make a really good video, the guy screwed people out of a lot of money and he's just acting like nothing ever happened, after *SWEARING* he'd pay the money back. im in the Kickstarter, i could give you pictures of all the things he said and did, before he takes it down.

One I feel like a lot don’t realize is a Kickstarter is Darkest Dungeon. Turn based dungeon crawler that came out after other companies said “turn based games are dead”. Might be hard as hell but fun nonetheless. Also started as a Kickstarter
Great video! I love the Kickscammers episodes, but it's great to see content about passionate developers living up to the promise of their crowdfunding pitches too. I know there are too many games to possibly list, but one of my favorites is Blasphemous by a Spanish studio called The Game Kitchen. It's a stunningly beautiful and dark metroidvania that I was proud to have backed.
Big thank you to all the people willing to back these projects.
The best advice I heard for funding a crowd funded project is...if youre not sure the campaign is legit, only donate money you're not afraid to lose.
Sometimes projects aren't a scam but fall apart anyway. Sometimes people get in over their heads. Sometimes personal problems cause a project to end.
Whatever the reason, if its not something from a known name or company, don't spend more than you're comfortable losing.
I once ate 42 people at a bus stop.
Don't spend more than you're comfortable losing even if it is legit. But don't spend ANYTHING on a scam. Not even money you can afford to lose. Because you expand the scam economy when you do that. You make scams that much more profitable as an industry.

Not sure why anyone would go "This is a scam. I'm going to give them money anyway"
@@DragonNexus I think you're right. I just meant, if you're not confident it's a scam, don't give anything. Even money you're OK with losing. I was drawing a little harder line than you.

Hyper Light Drifter is probably the best Kickstarter game I've played so far. So dammed great! I also played Ruiner recently, which was also very good and I'm pretty sure that was also Kickstarted.
I definitely would urge people do their research but also urge you support what you want to see come to fruition.
Many folks are, rightly so, concerned with whether it will fail or not turn out good but if you do let it hold you back we may very well miss out on a good, up and coming dev and/or games.
My experience with Bloodstained Ritual of the Night (Castlevania style game) was pretty good.
We got to have some input on the games creation, we even got to vote on a "helper spirit" to add, we chose what graphics shaders they would use for the game and we were in regular constant updates so we felt involved with the process and it did so well on getting it's funding we got a 8 bit style game before the project released which was itself a great game.
It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though, I'd braced myself for delays, games seldom hit their original date but even still, I think it ended up delayed an extra year or two due to issues.
Still, they've been true to their word, constantly adding promised stretch goals and a few extras, in fact they recently added the character from Child of Light as a playable character.
I was very happy with the project and pleased my name features in the credits as a backer.
It may sound pretentious and i may have been only a small, tiny part in it all , but I helped that game come to life and that's something you don't get to say often in the gaming world as a gamer.
Many years down the line I'll look back and be glad I did it, with a nice in game momento of my name being there.
One I'm sad I missed out on was Lisa: The Painful RPG's kickstarter turned out to be one of my favorite games.
As a big indie and retro player (it's pretty much all of what I cover on RUclips and Twitch), I'm very pleased to see that I've heard of all but two of the titles on this list and have played most of them as well. Some fantastic titles on here!

* Wasteland 2
* Agony
* System Shock
* Divinity: Original Sin 2
* The Bards Tale IV
* Scorn
* Lust for Darkness
We have similar tastes, it would appear. I backed most of these, too. They were all great.
@@Markus0021 I love my old D&D games, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, etc, those were my home for many years, apart from Quake, its the fondest memories of the late 90s.
@@Not-TheOne Same. I back the Kickstarter projects that aim to put together a D&D-like RPG experience. Larian Studios, in particular, have a consistent track record of creating the kind of projects I love, and following through on all their promises to their backers.
Many of these are either in my library or at the very least in my wishlist. Never knew they were crowdfunded titles, but I'm happy to see that they reached their goals.

Slaps and Beans is one of those successes as well. Currently they working on the sequel cause the first game was such an success
Good to see that there are also some great games that can come out of Kickstarter and not just terrible games or outright scams.
Grim Dawn is one of the greatest ARPGs. 93% positive rating on Steam. Developer supported modding as well.

Proud to say that I heard about and wishlisted most of them (and own 2: Slipstream & Paradigm). On a side note - that Prodigy inspired snippet you shared (from Final Vendetta) kicks ass! I'm going to buy this game, even if just for the OST alone. What an absolute blast! Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad you made this video! I had only heard about half of these games so I'm absolutely gonna check the rest out! They all look really unique.
There's only two games I've been able to back on Kickstarter and they're Praey for the Gods and My Time at Sandrock. Praey fully released not too long ago and it turned out pretty great for being made by such a small team. Sandrock is hitting early access on steam this month but I've been playing it since last summer and watching it grow and polish is absolutely worth the price of admission imo.
I backed only two games (and one movie) on crowdfunding sites and both were successful and games made me happy - Tesla Effect and Saint Kotar.
I didn’t know Downhill Racer was kickstarted. Kinda makes sense in retrospective but it’s incredibly high quality. It can be frustrating at times but it always feels like your fault when you fail and not the game glitching out.
I’ve never heard of any of these except The Pedestrian, which I bought on PS5 the day it launched on that platform. Had no idea it was a Kickstarter.
The Pedestrian looks like one of those things you'd see in the PS3 generation, when games got pretty experimental with how they presented themselves. Pretty cool.
Final Vendetta looks so smooth, great animations and great music. plus I love me a beat em up.
Tiny Barbarian was one of the games I've backed. Great game.

Awesome you are showcasing other good kicksyarter games .... in my eyes they are th saving grace for the gaming industry that are focused on the wrong things , like live serbicea , loot boxes and frightfully trying to dable in nfts bs.
Pedestrian was a fun game. Not too long, repayable, challenging but not frustrating, recommended.

Regarding Kickstarter Scams, I didn't remember a single campaign for a game, I will call scam. Sure, ther were games where it seemed the guys asking for funding didn't have a clue what they're doing and failed, but this was in the beginning days, shortly after the Double Fine Adventure hype.
The project I hope it will succeed is Peace Island, the open world game with cats. It barely reached it's goal, and it didn't run very well at the beginning. Then some guy posted an early tech Demo of a cat in a community of cat Fans, and the Demos spread in 24 hours do much, that boredpanda noticed it. Their report skyrocketed it and brought in publicity and fresh money. I really like how the alpha builds look like. And hopefully they don't leave the Track.
I was really hoping Elite Dangerous was included on this list because that was also crowd funded.
The cat-slug game related to rain looks really awesome and I might buy that. I bought Papers, Please, but it was too close to my then real job and I lost desire to play it as it felt like just an extension of my day to day life 😂. I have a new job now so I might go back to it, but I'd love a cute/cool platformer/puzzle kind of game to change things up.
My top 3 smaller crowdfunded games:

The only Kickstarter I ever helped fund was a Homestuck point-and-click adventure game called 'Hiveswap', and while there were a few bumps in the road, and there are only 2 Acts so far, I'm happy I supported the project
The biggest ones for me, and the only ones I ever backed, were Kingdom Come Deliverance, Pillars of Eternity series, and the Divinity Original Sin series.
Not only did they successfully release all of them, but they've all won awards and consider all of them some of my favorite RPGs out there.
Kingdom Come Deliverance feels so underrated in the grand scheme of things. Didnt realize it was made on kickstarter. It looks so high budget! Dying for a sequel.
@@mistertagomago7974 There's a sequel already in the works. Also the developer was purchased by one of the subsidiary publishers under Embracer group shortly after releasing the original game, so they'll have a lot more capital to put into the development of the sequel.

The Pedestrian reminds me of the Radica Cube World toys from the '90s turned into a puzzle platformer. 🤣
Another successful Kickstarter game is Crosscode, which is really good to play.
Great video, I absolutely love learning about new indie games! I had no idea The Pedestrian was a Kickstarter title either, I think I saw it pop up around the time it first released and the trailer seemed cool. However, the gameplay footage you showed here looks even better! Definitely going to take a look :)

Dang Battle Axe has a mostly negative review score on Steam.
Wish you showed Blasphemous, one of my fav kickstarted games and such an amazing success story with free Dlc still coming out

I wonder considering what Slopes has said if he has played They Bleed Pixels as that is a precision platforming indie masterpiece.

Can you look at a Indie Game called Dust An Elysian Tail it has some interesting History👹🗡🐈🦇
Especially since it started off originally trying to be an animated movie or series. The game was meant to be a side story to the main narrative.

@@mrmysterious8124 Considering how they've gutted their animation department and generally come across as scornful of the medium, I doubt it.
One game I would add is "Supraland", a 3D metroidvania set in a kids sandbox fantasy world. It turned out absolutely amazing.
Even more surprising, when it was on Kickstarter it actually failed, but the developer powered on regardless and made it real. And everyone after its release loved the game.
Needless to say things went different when Supraland 2 was announced and the funding was SMASHED within days.

Uridium for the Commodore 64 is so good! I had to pick Hyper Sentinel up on Steam, no idea it was KSed though.
I back board games more than video games on KS (and to a lesser extent, Gamefound), and one has to be wary of what you back, and especially if its a kickstarter MMO! But, I've had more good than bad experiences; Nimbatus, Prodeus, and of course Bloodstained; Ritual of the Night, all stand out as games that turned out well.
Wasnt the Friday the 13th game a Kicksrarter game? That turned our really well and, at least for fans of the series, it hit all the key elements... yeah, " the Lawsuit" meant they didn't get "finish" it with he last few add ons.. but I still play the hell out if it.
2 games I backed on kickstarter and are truly awesome are the Planet x2 and planet x3 for the 8 bit guy.
Yeah, it does feel good to see things like this not just succeed but succeed spectacularly. Big thanks to all the backers out there.

I bought Hyper Sentinel for Switch after watching this video. It looked amazing as a retro revival type game and is only $7.99.
I wish I could throw bucket loads of cash at Team Cherry for all the fun Hollow Knight has given me. One of my life regrets is missing out on that kickstar lol.
My Xbox Series S IS my retro machine, primarily. It can't run all arcade stuff, the MAME core on Retroarch is a bloody mess but for the most part, a lot of games ran just great, especially Dreamcast, Saturn & PS1. Also now, with the release of the branch version of PCSX2 called XBSX2(original name is AetherSX2), PS2 games ran way smoother than ever before, even in 4K.
That said, Slipstream is fucking awesome.
For me, Hollow Knight is the best Kickstarter game. I’ve beaten it a dozen times and wish I’d known about the Kickstarter campaign when it was live.

Saw a playthrough of Paradigm. Can confirm, it's a silly, fun time.
For KS projects I've been a part of, one of note was 'A Hole New World.' Modest project just making funding, it was a MegaMan meets Castlevania style game with a gravity gimmick and a pretty good time.
For those that like the look of slipstream you should also check out 80's Overdrive. it's on 3DS Switch and Steam and i honestly prefer the 3DS version. It's pretty cheap too.
You know the slipstreaming thing is a myth? Yep. I seen it on mythbusters. It's doesn't even help improve aerodynamics/speed when trailing a semi truck and considering how dangerous it is it's a myth everyone should be aware of. Funny how it's in virtually every racing game, though.

I have never been kickscammed or fail to deliver in games. I have only done 3 but I am very picky. and tend to pledge makers who have a history, Like Ron Gilbert, and Spiderweb Software.
Slipstream is a fun just mellowing out like a reflex break. Like it 15 to 20 mins is juts enough

Supporting online fundraisers should be considered the same way you'd consider any other investments-- no matter how trustworthy the source, NEVER put down more than you are willing to completely lose, if push comes to shove. Otherwise, you're simply making poor financial decisions, and any repercussions of those decisions fall onto you.
In other words, literally any investment carries inherent risk to it, and you should never bet more than you're willing to risk on potential failures.
I hadn't heard of Uridium, so I thought its footage was from the indie game. Darn impressive, though I'll admit I'm not familiar with whatever the graphical standards for the Commodore 64 are.

No love for Neverending Nightmares? That was brilliantly run had tons of updates throughout the whole process and was only one month past the initial Kickstarter promised dated. Matt Gilgenbach and his team did a fantastic job with the whole thing, even down to physical goods.
Except that the game wasn't particularly well received.
Just as a side note, in your links #7 and #5 are switched. I clicked 7 to try to remember its name and got a spoiler for later in the list and went through every link to figure out where it had gone.
I love kickstarter but after so long time with no simple option as PayPal i only was able to fund 3 games a pity.

I read that the Neo Geo version of Xenocrisis has some extra stuff that isn't found in the Megadrive version.

Man, there are so many good games coming out, there's not enough time to play even a fraction of them.
I know, especially since I just played through Cyberpunk 2077 four times back-to-back and did everything the game has to offer. At least I have a little time now

There's many great looking game like these, but There's other games I couldn't play on my old computer, and nowadays I give those the priority.
