  • Bodycam footage shows New York State Trooper Francis Rush diving into a pond and saving an unconscious man from drowning on August 17. Authorities said the driver accidentally crashed into the pond after suffering a medical emergency. The driver was revived and treated at the scene before he was taken to a hospital for further medical attention.

    Trooper Francis Rush sets the example for other folks to follow when confronted by an emergency situation. Remain calm, quickly develop a plan of action, be safe and proceed to do what you are capable of doing to help someone who is challenged.

      @@gsantiago72 There were a lot of people just standing around when he arrived. Why didn't they do the "human thing" and try to save the guy? The only thing he had that they didn't was the rope, and the rope didn't actually do much. Getting out there and dragging the person back on his own strength was the hard work. No one else did it, so the "human thing" is a pretty awful argument.

      I worked for EMS for over a decade..99.5 percent of the cops don't have a clue what to do on a wreck scene.. I've had to push them out of my way. This cop was rare. I was certified in swift water rescue. Cliff rescue, wilderness EMT. If he wants to be a real hero, join EMS.

      @@Bryan-Hensley that's the dumbest thing to say. It's 2 totally different jobs they do and know things you don't know with their job just just like they don't know things about medical. I was also an EMT for years I would never expect a cop to know as much as I did on any scene.

      @@Bryan-Hensley that's what makes this rescue even more special. Had he waited for EMT to arrive, well?? I have no doubt you did amazing rescues, and many times. Many careers are about saving, perserving, bringing life and can be done either very well or not. Here in Australia we have a massive problem of people dying due to lack of funding for EMS, emergency room delays and incorrect care. So I'm always touched when I see any person go up and beyond their skill set to save a life. Blessings to you, and those like you.🙏🌏💙

      @@divoc1736 they don't know much about anything. It's not their fault either. It's the lack of training. A police officer has more responsibility than EMS so they should be required to have more training. Plus they need to know some law. I'm all for a 4 year real college course for cops instead of 6 months military type training. The police academy is the shortest course available. Our neighbor city requires their officers to have basic firefighter course, basic vehicle extrication training and EMT. They also have a no chase policy unless it's a know felon or felony. They pay good and they have an outstanding police department. All they lack is some specialty law courses focused on what they encounter.

      You didn’t miss anything. Civilian in the water trying his best, cop arrives, guy pops up via sun roof popping after submerging sucked him right out, pure miracle, dragged to shore. Secured and taken to hospital

    It just occurred to me that although it wouldn't be TOO common for it to be useful, a floatation ring on a rope might be a good standard issue for cops who patrol around a lot of bodies of water.

    This happened at the medical office I work at in Fishkill NY…and this Trooper is a hometown hero!!!!
    The man was heading into a medical plaza to a doctors appointment for his condition and passed out shortly before parking and his car then accidentally rolled into a small pond on the property.
    The Trooper was in the right place at the right time! Bravo!!!!
