    I like Sein a lot. He’s kind of like the token “adult” in the party. Granted, Frieren is over a thousand years old but in many ways if you’re immortal do you ever truly grow up completely? You don’t really have the time pressure necessitating it.

    • @storieswithstyle
      @storieswithstyle  8 месяцев назад +17

      Yes, Sein is thematically the most interesting character currently. He brings adulthood into our party and seems wise but sad, I love him and am so glad he joined. =)

    Notice how we first meet Sein in a quagmire of sorts!
    it also symbolizes his mental state. He was stuck.

    I love the parallels drawn between the current party and the old Hero's party.
    We have Fern who is Frieren's student, Stark who is Eisen's pupil, and now Sein who although never directly studied under Heiter can reasonably be called his protege not only being the same class but also sharing similar vices. And slowly over time, we see Frieren filling Himmel's role as the party leader. 24:58 the dual lines of "I'm talking about the present" really nails this home that Frieren is becoming more like Himmel as she undergoes this second journey to rediscover who he was and what he meant to the world.

    "Sake wa hyakuyaku no chou" (Sake is the best of all medicines) is a proverb. In Italy they have a similar saying with the same meaning: "good wine makes good blood". It doesn't mean to overdrink, it just means that wine is an integral part of cultural pride and identity for Italians, just like Sake is for Japanese people. So, when a Japanese person drinks Sake, it's not just about the taste, it's also about the very fact of being Japanese. Ofc in the anime Heiter definitely overdrinks, but what he really taught Fern with that saying is "look, alcohol is part of our culture, part of who we are".

    The concepts you brought up here remind me a lot of some Jordan Peterson lectures (the psychology ones, and they really are good, I won't comment on the rest of his work lol). I love the archetypes that we can see in a rich narrative like Frieren, as much as it was played for laughs in episodes like these, theres still a deeper layer to everything in these characters choices.

    • @storieswithstyle
      @storieswithstyle  8 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, that might be very true, I watched his psychology lectures some years ago as my own university was not good in that regard. I think his lectures are 10/10, though yeah, the more he goes away from where he is an expert the harder it gets to watch (I physically cringed an an interview with Penrose he did, he has no clue almost about physics). I think he ties his best but his "reputation" makes him overstep a lot currently =( Still, his psychology stuff about stories got me thinking a lot back in the day (I also liked his reading recommendations a lot), especially the archetype stuff is pretty good. =)

    on the opening, when you said about the adventure changing, like making families. Immediately I remembered the movie "Up" when Carl found her wife's adventure scrapbook is filled with the photos of them growing old together, And the note in the end says "Thanks for the adventure - now go have a new one. Love - Ellie". That scene was very beautiful.

    What I love about this episode is that its very memorable, yet its such a slow episode.
    Fights are cool but these episodes are what carrying the anime.
    You can get cool fight scenes in most anime, JJK, demon slayer and many more but you barely get such slow episodes.

    An interesting talk at the start about having purpose or a goal or you die. Wanted to mention in Dark Souls characters go “hollow” as soon as they achieve their goal, or their goal becomes impossible. They lose their humanity, their sense of self, and become a husk. They basically go through dementia on steroids. It’s very tragic to see characters you once met who had great ambitions and goals, simply become mindlessly zombies who attack you on sight. I think it’s a good parallel to people who lose their purpose and fall into depression

    The irony of Sein starting out as being stuck in the past.
    Looking forward to the big video
    So you talked about adventure in everyday life:
    I do have a passion for trying out different foods and I am looking for recipes from different times and places, I'm looking forward to cooking lots with nettles (Brennessel) in spring. They're everywhere and it's a shame I never ate it before.

    I am curious to see what you think about Sein and the relationship he has with the rest of the cast. There is for sure a lot of interesting stuff with the role he assumes in the party. And the show/manga doesn't disappoint in my eyes. They will introduce a character who in most things I would not like and then I end up loving them. I think it is because they take routes that are predictable in some cases, but not in the way that you would usually predict them.
    Also, I guess I need to check out some of your writing, I write too and I picked up on it from the channel title and some of the stuff you've said about it in the videos and at the outro.

    • @storieswithstyle
      @storieswithstyle  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, Sein is so awesome. Such a refreshing new character I did not know was needed :D The writing is best described as "intuitive", I feel, which makes it so impeccable. =D
      There will be a big story coming out later today on the channel that reads them, I think it is probably my best one so if you want to check one out, I would recommend that one. It will also be linked in the video next Wednesday about all the German terms. =)

    The analysis/conclusions around Sein and the episode are the same as I had when I first saw it.
    Last episode Frieren said that she knows from her master what kind of gifts men like. Something like potions that can dissolve clothing.
    In this one, Frieren shows what effective seduction technique she learned from Flamme. Just look at the critical hit on Himmel.
    My thoughts on this:
    What did you teach her, Flamme? 🙃

    • @storieswithstyle

    Adults have to practice professional disingenuity. You might have to wear a suit and tie to work, instead of the shorts and a jersey you'd rather be wearing. It's troublesome when an anime depicts smoking the way Frieren does. It is so well animated that it usually kicks off a nicotine craving, for me at least.
    Don't start smoking or vaping, theoretical kids in the audience! Nicotine is not a great addiction to fight.
    Not the worst! But sincerely not great.
    As an aside, the RUclips Algorithm has been sending more Frieren reviews my way, and I've watched a couple. Much prefer yours! You bring the language lessons to us, and I Much prefer your thoughtful, conscious and calm style. :-)
