Fyi, there are multiple reasons people can't have children. I feel many people are not educated on this. There are medical issues preventing it that sometimes has nothing to do with age. PCOS and endometriosis are two common ones.

What a beautiful story! I'm so happy for this couple and little baby Zain! Recently I had my 3rd failed IVF so this topic is really sensitive for me... I'm trying so hard to hold back my tears right now! I was considering using donor eggs. And I'm still looking into it. But after I discovered mitochondrial replacement therapy/mitochondria donation, I couldn't just pass by. I thought it was something new in reproductive medicine. But this video is from 2015, so I guess the treatment is still gaining popularity. Why so many negative comments? I think this's amazing option for couples who couldn't conceive through regular IVF. And I'm sure it improved and progressed during last couple of years. I'm kind of pinning my hopes on this treatment… I don't know much about it, still looking for more information. But as I know now, Ukraine is successful with it.

People are so negative about this vid, but the most important is this couple is happy. Their child is healthy and loved.
It's nice to watch such stories.
Never heard about mitochondrial replacement therapy before. I think to use donor eggs.
Not sure if I fit to have MRT... But sounds interesting.

I couldn't find much about this treatment, but here is some article clippings which I found.
Mitochondrial donation was developed as a way to prevent babies from inheriting life-threatening mitochondrial diseases from their mothers.
However, as part of a trial, the procedure was used for the fertility treatment of a woman with poor egg quality.
The procedure, known as maternal spindle transfer, involves extracting the nucleus from a mother's egg and transferring it into a donor egg, which has had its nucleus removed.
This combined egg is then fertilised with the father's sperm and implanted into the mother.
The resulting embryo has chromosomes from the mother and father, but also retains mitochondrial DNA from the donor.
Mitochondrial replacement therapy offers a solution for mothers who may not want to pass down their mitochondrial DNA. Instead, a female donor’s mitochondria are used.
So basically it's “three-parent baby” conception. Baby will only have a tiny bit of DNA from the donor. So baby who was born from MRT will have 99.9% of its DNA from its two parents. Sounds really great!
As I understood, MRT is banned in the USA. Where else you can have it?

@@sandrapolson2624 Here is an article, I think it clarifies everything biotexcom.com/the-prices-for-the-donation-of-mitochondria-programs . It says that mitochondria donation gives women, who underwent numerous unsuccessful IVF cycles, aged 40+, suffer from low levels of AMH, an excellent chance to give birth to a child who shares a genetic relationship with her and her partner. Mitochondrion is one of the most important components of any living cell, including the egg. In simple words, mitochondrion is the cell’s energy station. Essentially, its work consists in supplying the cell with vital energy for its normal functioning. Women that went through multiple unsuccessful IVF attempts, as well as of older reproductive age, need to restore oocyte mitochondria in order to successfully become pregnant. A woman can become pregnant only if there are functionally active mitochondria in her oocytes. Donation of mitochondria will allow thousands of hopeless women to give birth to a healthy child through IVF using mitochondrial donation. As far as I know, Ukraine is the only country where you can have mitochondria donation. This's sad that it banned pretty much everywhere... Well I'm ready to go abroad. Hope to start the process asap.

"they are really looking at women that have poor egg health", the reason older women have such a low chance of conceiving is because the eggs have deteriorated and therefore are low egg health. Her comment didn't make sense.

Let me clarify to you, even if some people have unhealthy egg, they are still mature eggs. Older people stops growing mature egg, therefore making this therapy pointless for them.

Holy cow. The fact that we have 8 embryos going for PGTA and we didn’t have to do more cycles do to poor egg quality tells me how blessed we are even if it didn’t seem so after trying for years and having failed pregnancies. Nothing would make my wife happier than to become a momma. And nothing would give me more purpose than to be a father. Here’s to our miracle coming 2023.
