In vitro gametogenesis (IVG): It might sound like science fiction, but someday, we may be able to convert human skin cells into viable human egg and sperm cells.
This technology would allow for same-sex couples and those struggling with infertility to have biological children of their own.
But here’s the catch: So far, IVG only has been successfully performed in mice. However, a fast-moving startup in Berkeley, California is on the road to making it a reality.

Considering our fertility rate is plummeting due to environmental chemical contamination (lookin' at you, plastics), this will likely be a necessity for the continuance of human civilisation (if we can overcome global climate collapse first, that is). Bring it on, consequences and all - better than extinction, after all.

One of our biggest problems is not infertility, but is related to raising children, and that is the capacity to parent adequately. For all our self styled intellectual capacity, we are still unable to overcome the deeply debilitating effects on us of our own child hood trauma, such that, making informed and emotionally balanced, decisions as adults is almost impossible. It is these very personal challenges, that make raising children adequately, almost impossible. Look at the generation of millennials, inability to cope emotionally with the world that exists. As a result they are rushing head long toward the Metaverse for sanctuary.
Our biggest challenge as a species, is overcoming trauma that occurred in childhood, to then lead a productive adult life. But that doesn't happen. From the top of society down, people make decisions and behave based on the effects of childhood trauma (complex PTSD). The world is full of maladjusted people making life worse for themselves and others, because of tgeir psychology. Fix that problem, and maybe it will be worth creating human eggs for producing another generation who could live fulfilling lives.

Funny thing is parents who have to use IFV adoption and surrogacy to have children generally have the resources both financially and emotionally to raise children. Countless studies show children of these parents on average have much better outcomes than traditional families. So this is just another avenue for couples that are ready to be parents to be parents.

@@gurgleblaster2282 That's great news. A close friend of mine and his wife took advantage of the IVF program offered in our country. They ended up with two children a boy and a girl. As it was the fathers fertility that was the issue and the fertility is carried on the Y chromosome, his son will most likely be sterile to. Which means if he ever wanted children, he might have to use IVF.

    • @luxurypetscz
      @luxurypetscz 5 месяцев назад

Many, if not most, childhood trauma and bad parenting comes from or is connected poverty - parents neglecting their children because they need to work multiple jobs, drug dependant parents using substances to deal with their problems, parents not being able to provide for their kids etc. etc. Treatments like IVF and possibly IVG are so expensive that it will probably never have any effect on the most voulnerable kids. Not to mention the children born from these treatments are always wanted and their parents have the recources to take care of them.
Not to mention that wealth is inherited and so the more kids the rich have the more their wealth gets spread out after their deaths so paradoxically the rich having many children could not only be good for the economy, but also for not cumulating wealth in the hands of a few which could in the long term have good effect on the poorest families as well.

You do raise an interesting point. If this technology gets into the wrong hands it could be extremely dangerous. I've spent most of my career working on issues pertaining to dual-use Technologies which means they could be used for civilian or for military purposes. Just imagine a country like Russia who has a declining population and is so desperate it's trying to Annex its neighbors at all costs. Clearly they don't seem to have a very good human rights record. They could easily retrieve blood from people, even unwittingly, and just make their babies, presuming there is a gestational womb, with that I'm sure could be acquired easily and secretly from all of the increasingly large numbers of prisoners. I'm sure if Hitler had this technology he would have going crazy making those Aryan babies. I'm sure the International Community would probably not like this and it would also cause a problem for civilian purposes. I just hope that the developers of this technology, as well as the US government pay attention to ensure its not being used to create humans for less than noble reasons. Another doomsday scenario is that it could be used to make babies to be bought and sold on the black market.

While chemical weapons are considered a wmd, and they did kill a lot of soldiers on the battlefield in World War I, the lethality of one munition wasn't massive (although the cumulation was). Of course that's changed with the advent of nerve agents and different means of dissemination and aerosolization. Personally I look at 1945 as really being the first time a truly mass casualty or mass destruction causing weapon has been used. So the concern about dual-use Technologies is a modern phenomenon.

It's people understanding that world can't sustain unlimited human, instead there's maximum number for human population to ideally exist so didn't exhaust earth. Its overpopulation the issue people need to solve first. And not to mention there's also issue of orphanages child. Africa, South America, asia, have some region that produce human more than the ideal capabilities of earth. That's the issue. Overpopulation in cities. That's the issue.

because sex is cheap to make children and many adults abuse this to make children then ask them to work soon or give no educaition to them, no taking care of them very well,.....
To IVG children, the parents must overcome the law as well as they have to spend more money then these children are loved by them , not abusing, even the child can live in a better environment.
Think differently you will have more positive views on this. this is a positive and better step in reproductive health. Please do not mention about overpopulation. it is problems of people who abuse sex in the world. it is not error from who has errors in reproductive health.

Imagine mixing this video into this biblical story video here: ruclips.net/video/1hbCuKSEpJc/видео.html&ab_channel=TheLegendsofHistory made me thought that IVG is not part of God's plan as Ishmael. Muslims were descended by Ishmael and Hagar. Sarai was faithless since she can't conceive so she took Hagar to have a family through her but instead envy Hagar. God's promise to Sarai gave her Isaac. She had to kick out Hagar and Ishmael in the wilderness. You need to know that Jesus is a descendant by Isaac which lead to Christianity and its successful prosperity.
This bible story made me compare to IVG but... at least it really allows same-sex couples to have kids biologically right? Which means no more to put stress to become a victim of this not being part of "God's plan". Who wants to believe that IVG is in fact part of God's plan and his promise? Give me a yes for those who can't conceive!

I wonder if any of these scientists have considered if gay should be classified as a genetic abnormality, and if classified as such, should this be a trait we edit out? 🤔 Not saying this to be offensive, etc, it's an honest thought. If gay is seen as unnatural because that's not how we're designed to procreate, then should we be trying to limit the spread of the issue genetically?
Science has done some tremendous things for us as a species, but creating new humans in this way could have countless unforseen complications.
