I’m gonna try to honestly answer your question. A lot of the earlier channels found out that commenting on drama got you in the algorithm easily and the videos are easy to make. And I think after a while RUclips viewers really got tired of drama for many reasons (politics, lying, and just plain tired of hearing people gripe) So these people then had to actually make videos with effort and production and they simply were too lazy or untalented to do it so they just whined and complained about declining views.

So there's no value in being "above it," since Phil isn't going to get it anyway as he sees the world in friends and enemies. And for as much as he dunks on DSP, he couldn't take a fifth of what DSP has to take. He is always covering people's dirty laundry, but when it's his turn he cries.

Allow me to rephrase. Dark mode requires me to put my phone at 75%+ brightness to read a word on my screen. Light mode is significantly less draining on my battery and eyesight, especially when I'm in sunglasses working for hours under the blazing southern sky. Y'all are probably still able to use your eyes properly, but a relic like myself actually prefers to go easier on mine so I can stave off needing glasses. I would _not_ look good in them, I swear. 🤢

The FF14 bit is 100% him talking about the failed 1.0 version in the 12 years ago video (2012) and then accepting a sponsorship for the relaunch 11 years ago (2013). The timeline checks out and I guess people who thought it was hypocritical weren't aware the game was shut down and relaunched a year later.

I started watching Rich around 2014, shortly after the Xbox One's release. I thought he actually made decent videos back then, mostly focusing on gaming news and sometimes other miscellaneous topics. He's actually one of the RUclipsrs that motivated me to get into PC gaming on top of a few others (PewDiePie and TobyGames). I ended up unsubbing around the time Rich started getting too much into politics, drama and doing those "shirtless" streams.
He was a moron about the technology then too. I remember going back and forth making fun of his stupid takes on console hardware in his channel and leaving. How did he sustain a tech audience while being essentially tech illiterate?

A few days later he had to pull out because his life was threatened and I remember people called him a liar as well. I actually stopped watching him for another reason. Videos like this remind me of a lot of the personal shame I have knowing that, at one point in my life, I was an avid viewer of RTU and even submitted articles for them to cover. Indirect or not, that contributed to their success (at the time) and I regret ever having done so when RTU quickly showed their ass around 2014.
Well with his channel revolving around drama, he had to constantly be online to see where the drama was and try to be the first one to make a video on it. Similar to news outlets. His channel should've just focused on tech and games. Not drama. This was the result of his downfall and mental instability. His other huge flaw was reacting to drama related to him. Normally I like Joon the Kings videos, and I used to be an avid fan of Rich too, but this video I think personally didn’t do a very good job of explaining how Rich got to where he’s at today. From 2020-2024 the video skipped straight past a huge drama just to lightly cover the drama with Jay. During that time there was a huge back and forth between Rich and his viewers due to a lack of unfulfilled promises and stream goals, where he got a ton of subs and donations and then was majorly slacking on getting the goals fulfilled. Finally he just donated all the money to charity and lambasted all the stream viewers before ending the stream, only to then start a new stream less than an hour later complaining about them again and shouting angrily.
I don't know if I missed something in the video, but I wanna say as someone like... Who watched Rich for at least a year or two at some point... But who's at the end of this video now... Sure, he seems like a fuckhead, but it seems like his views were declining even before some of the fuckheadery started to get grave? Couple that with the fact that he had lamented for someone time how much that he didn’t like doing news, that by the time he got the news out he was beaten by others who generally did better coverage. He had bumps with things like the Quantum TV drama, but his political disdain kept bleeding into things and he kept triggering pockets of his fan base, which didn’t help with growth either. He was mostly focused on streaming at that point, but he failed to really build his streams into anything meaningful either so they stagnated as well. Then add the perpetual drama and health issues and it just lead to more inconsistency and stagnation. He just comes off as someone who will do what he can to get by, but nothing more until he has to.

Review Drama USA was basically all his channel was about. The sad part is that I and lots of ppl enjoyed his video game topics. But then he had to venture the drama news for clicks. Sure the Quantum TV/DKoldies saga was interesting, but every time he mentions Twitter or Reddit it just got too obvious with the negativity. Rich at his prime was a great content creator if only he could just ignore trolls hed probably still be making content.
Might be the dust settling in the console wars meant his low knowledge reviews of tech couldn't sustain itself as a job so he dove into just drama. I have a really poor opinion of his "reviews". From watching the VOD myself (and also from this video lol), I believe Andy Warski was going to make fun of Rich for his history of doxing and the discord leaks, but Rich gaslit himself into thinking Warski hacked his Dropbox and saw the questionable pictures in there. The stream is so surreal because Warski and his buddy slowly realize over the course of an hour that Rich is admitting to something more embarrassing and immoral by his own volition then what Warski was going to say himself.

I’m gonna try to honestly answer your question. A lot of the earlier channels found out that commenting on drama got you in the algorithm easily and the videos are easy to make. And I think after a while RUclips viewers really got tired of drama for many reasons (politics, lying, and just plain tired of hearing people gripe) So these people then had to actually make videos with effort and production and they simply were too lazy or untalented to do it so they just whined and complained about declining views.

One of Rich's cardinal sins is that he loves drama, but doesn't want to own doing it. Take his obsession with DSP, he constantly tries to be above both Phil and Phil's detractors. Yet Rich would be considered a detractor too in Phil's eyes, since Phil considers everyone who disagrees with him a troll.

Allow me to rephrase. Dark mode requires me to put my phone at 75%+ brightness to read a word on my screen. Light mode is significantly less draining on my battery and eyesight, especially when I'm in sunglasses working for hours under the blazing southern sky.

As a former big RTU fan and whale, I am finally happy someone is making a doc about Rich and him shitting the internet and his editor (Yes, I know Rich said they're "cool" now but he said that last time and they weren't lol). He criticizes others for things they "should" when he, himself, doesn't follow his own advice (once example is airing your dirty laundry. Rich brought up his daughter drobox bikini pictures when NO ONE mentioned it or said he had them). He fired his best friend/editor after many years all in a whim all because Jay refused to do shorts. In addition, Rich couldn't handle Jay's sarcasm (Rich admits this in one of his streams). This man is a lost cause since he doesn't follow his comment's criticism (which Rich admits are valid on numerous occasions).

The FF14 bit is 100% him talking about the failed 1.0 version in the 12 years ago video (2012) and then accepting a sponsorship for the relaunch 11 years ago (2013). The timeline checks out and I guess people who thought it was hypocritical weren't aware the game was shut down and relaunched a year later.

He's actually one of the RUclipsrs that motivated me to get into PC gaming on top of a few others (PewDiePie and TobyGames). I ended up unsubbing around the time Rich started getting too much into politics, drama and doing those "shirtless" streams.

I realized I only remember the guy up until the 15m mark of this video. How can someone who knows so little keep getting paid for content. I dropped him after his dumb as shit takes on the technical capabilities of the xbox one. Then he has a whole multi decade career after. I'm surprised people took him seriously for anything technical.
Normally I like Joon the Kings videos, and I used to be an avid fan of Rich too, but this video I think personally didn’t do a very good job of explaining how Rich got to where he’s at today. From 2020-2024 the video skipped straight past a huge drama just to lightly cover the drama with Jay. During that time there was a huge back and forth between Rich and his viewers due to a lack of unfulfilled promises and stream goals, where he got a ton of subs and donations and then was majorly slacking on getting the goals fulfilled. Finally he just donated all the money to charity and lambasted all the stream viewers before ending the stream, only to then start a new stream less than an hour later complaining about them again and shouting angrily.
I don't know if I missed something in the video, but I wanna say as someone like... Who watched Rich for at least a year or two at some point... But who's at the end of this video now... Sure, he seems like a fuckhead, but it seems like his views were declining even before some of the fuckheadery started to get grave? I feel like I'm missing something on the line going so down so quickly on his channel, what actually happened, why did people stop watching?

Couple that with the fact that he had lamented for someone time how much that he didn’t like doing news, that by the time he got the news out he was beaten by others who generally did better coverage. He had bumps with things like the Quantum TV drama, but his political disdain kept bleeding into things and he kept triggering pockets of his fan base, which didn’t help with growth either. He was mostly focused on streaming at that point, but he failed to really build his streams into anything meaningful either so they stagnated as well. Then add the perpetual drama and health issues and it just lead to more inconsistency and stagnation.
He just comes off as someone who will do what he can to get by, but nothing more until he has to.
