In the end, it's the games that sell the hardware and the only good thing going for this new console is that it still has 4 years of possible banger games to peak people's interest before the PS6 makes it irrelevant.
1,020 dollars Canadian after taxes. For a 45% improvement? No disc drive or vertical stand in box. No thanks. Not even the scalpers will touch this one.
Isn't even a 45% improvement. All they did was add AI Frame Gen that can be added via update and a M.2 SSD cost isn't high anymore max 100 USD so straight up unjustifiable
@bigmiki2620 45% faster rendering is substantial on paper, but in reality it probably won't matter. Current games already run fine at 60fps with dynamic reskution, and to run native 4k@60fps or 120fps you need a lot more than that. The differences might be noticeable in a side by side, but if you already own a ps5 it's not worth it
They're discouraging the disc owners by selling the disc drive separately...😵 Sony's really hell bent on making their consumers shift to digital purchase of their games and it's really sad
There is no passion, only profit. And they don’t realize, the growth from last generations came from passion… of the creatives and the players, and the profit followed. By capitalism dictates infinite growth. And with no competition to keep them in check, we get this. And $70 games with $40 season passes, and micro transactions
Its because digital purchases is the way to go. Discs as a storage medium are outdated and dying, just like casettes, carts, floppy as well as CD and DVD rom has gone. SSD is the storage medium now. Gotta move with the times. Remember PC has been fully digital for over a decade now.
Remember when companies openly took a loss on the hardware because it was the software that made the money? Now it's make all the money from the hardware and don't even make the software.
Its digital only - and Sony takes a subscription fee and 30% off all games and MTX sales... and they still selling it for a high profit price, that nuts. Valve sells the Steam Deck at near cost because they know full well they make all their money on Steam sales. (like a top spec Steam Deck is cheaper than the PS5 Pro) XBox sells for low margin/loss (figures not known) cause they have said they make all their money on Gamepass.
PS5 Pro has an even bigger price tag than OG PS3 and the fact it doesn't come with a disc drive for no additional charge makes the regular PS5 seem more appetising.
The main reason I didn't get a PS5 (yet?) is because I can't sit it horizontally and have it sit perfectly flat-nice and easy-like the PS4. I'm not gonna stand it up vertically. The PS5 slim should have been made to sit perfectly horizontal and not need plastic pieces to make it sit correctly. I'm surprised the Pro wasn't re-designed to sit flat.
they should have shown games that really struggle to reach 60 fps like final fantasy 16 but they knew it wont work because the devs are too lazy to optimize their own game so the ps5 pro is unnecessary

realistically, it'd cost more to buy a pc with the same kind of performance and specs the pro would produce. No stand is like punch to the teeth, while no disc drive is a kick to the balls.
“Get a PC at this point” even though the lack of a disc drive is the main complaint as well as price. This is still cheaper than building a PC that runs every game smoothly for the next 10 years.
@@SamuraiDanny Agreed, their argument would only work if you already have a PC and upgrade it with that $700. But even then, consoles and basically hyper efficient pc's, you don't get your money's worth in PC since 2020, I would say it's a toss up and you're getting ripped off either whichever way you go.
You got something wrong, Linus! The PS5 Pro in the "adjusted for inflation" graph doesn't include a disk drive or stand. The base PS5 includes a stand. And all of them include a disk drive. With those included, that would make it $810 instead of the $699 you have shown.
I love a physical copy more than anything, but unfortunately I can see how everything is going to go digital in time. It's becoming more common to get a physical case with a code to download the game.
You say that when the base ps5 is $600..”in this economy” yes it’s digital but did they say you needed it to play whatever games come out? No. So keep the base 5 and you’re 100% fine, at the end of the day it’s just a upgraded digital version with a new look not the ps6 geez😂

I get more frustrated with how long it takes a console to update than my PC, to be honest. The whole point of consoles was ease of use.
I am a hardcore console gamer in my late 30s. I hope to stay on consoles forever! The ease of use and lower price point and my familiarity with controllers makes the decision easy. Kick rocks PC games!

So I never comment on videos but you asked people to comment... and well here I go. I bought a ps4 Pro in 2018, added a 1Tb samsung EVO SSD too. Me & my brother have played side by side for years on his Ps5 while im on my pro. The only reason I have held off on a PS5 is for the PS5 Pro. Cuz for me, the difference between the PS5 and the P4Pro with the upgraded SSD is graphics and load time, nothing different after that and even then the base PS5 is only like 20% faster. I have first hand side by side comparison going. To me, I've waited years for this model to be released and that extra 65% faster or more memory or w/e is worth it. I will also be adding a samsung SSD with heatsink to my P5Pro. Yea its pricey, but it's worth it for me considering I have held out on buying a P5 for years til this launch. That being said, I got the base model for $760 after tax, shipping, etc on playstation direct.
Yeah exactly like whats the point of giving that much money for some background more clear background and main issue is that in some counteries that disc drive s price is so high . Iam sticking up with my og ps5
Those games are not convincing either Most of those games have a pc port So no dice there And many of those games are very very old But I guess bloodborne will still run at 30fps in pro version
They barely even focus on creating games utilizing the actual PS5 hardware… The pro version is an entire cash grab so the consumer thinks they’re getting better quality out of games being made in the future
Maybe I'm crazy but most ps5 games use the ps5 hardware to the fullest. Everything runs at a stable 60fps and loading screens are practically nonexistent.
@@SuperSteph5 not necessarily… most of the games say PS4/PS5 so how are they made specifically for the PS5 when theres the PS4 port holding it back? I found that the most ridiculous thing about all this. Insulting even. A $700 console and you couldn't throw in a silly plastic circle?!%$@! I swear that must be an internal joke over at Sony just to see how many suckers will actually pay for the stand
I don't get all the hate, people are acting like they are discontinuing the base PS5... Just don't get it. "Pro" consoles are always unnecessary imo, the only time it kinda makes sense to buy one is if your base console breaks or something and you want to buy a new one.
The reason is, if the PS5 Pro is priced at $700 USD (or $850 USD in Japan), the PS6 will probably be even more expensive, right? Also, in some regions, before the announcement of the PS5 Pro, the price of PS5 and its accessories increased significantly by 15-20%. On top of that, the decision to not included disc drive gives people the impression that Sony lacks sincerity and hints at their future business strategy.
I personally have no idea why it's soo expensive in the UK. 700 usd is about 540 pounds. How do you make it 700 pounds based on conversion rates? Like that means that I'm buying a 920 dollar console.... That makes no sense at all.
@@Cody.Tafoya you’re correct there. In UK VAT is included in product prices. Still a tough sell though and we always get the short end of the stick with prices vs conversion rates - even worse since Brexit 😢
Sony prices competitively in the US because they have to compete against XBox who is Number 1... in every other region Sony is Number 1, so they don't care and make you pay more.
Sony are out of their minds. My decent gaming PC cost $680 and I've only had to put an extra $60 into it to make it run most modern games. There is no way I would spend $700 on a PlayStation.
Hate to be negative but i hope it flops hard. The absurd price without basic features like a disk drive and a freaking stand sets a bad precedent for the future.
Personally, I'm gonna wait for reviews first to make sure reviewers don't find any blatant flaws or issues, as well as their own opinions on whether there's a real improvement here when it comes to performance and fidelity. This pricing does feel very scammy since its essentially just a PS5 with slightly improved hardware, and not a PS6. I'm glad other people are calling Sony out for it.
There is a phenomenon called inflation. Video games were bound to get a price hike eventually. One new component from a PC is more expensive. I upgraded to a 4080 earlier this year and that was a whopping $1200. $600 USD in 2006 to 2024 is almost $950. The iPhone 4s was like $299 in 2011; the newest iPhones are $900. So I truly don't understand why people are so fussy about it.
Not slightly pro is 3x faster than ps5 60fps fidelity mode and maybe 60fps+ performance mode the only thing that stops me from buying it is that it's digital
700 system, 80 dollar disk drive, 30 dollar stand, 80 dollars for PS for a year.... you can't literally get a good PC for that price. Sony is just shit.
-The fact there is NO games -No disk drive (Costs 80$ SEPERATE) You can't BUY the games, you only buy a license. -Add microtransactions every month just to be able to play -$700 Sony is literally slowly becoming Apple. A stand for your monitor for one grand? Yeah, Sony is taking notes here.
@@SUB-IN-SUPER I meant what do u mean that when physically buying a game atleast nobody is going to snatch it from your house , unlike in digital companies like ubisoft say u can lose game anytime at their convenience. What does this license mean ?
let's be clear: customers are responsible for the price increase. They've shown time and time again that they're ready to spend 1000++ to scalpers to get a PS5. They also shown that they're ready to pay 120$ to play a stupid game 3 days "early" or spend 60+ bucks on an horse skin all of that while spending 1300+ every year on a new version of the same phone and making the 4090 at nearly 2000 bucks the most sought after graphic card in the market being constantly out of stock.. At this point if you're a big company trying to make money, 800€ without a freaking plastic bit to keep the console upright seems like a freaking bargain price.
So Sony increases the price by 40% and gives you a little more. Very little. Sony raised the price of PS+ by 30% and offered nothing more in return. So let's all spend $700 on the Pro, spend another $60 for Astro and celebrate Sony's 30th. Yay Sony!
@@a.m.4654 If you buy the vertical stand that they removed from the box and purchased the disc drive that they removed as a built-in option, it is getting close to 100% in USD. Not quite 100%, but it does seem like they tried pretty hard to get there.
PS4 launch price was $399, PS4 Pro launch price was $399. I expected the trend to continue with PS5 Pro launch price to be $499 without the removal of the disc drive and stand! You know you're being ripped off when a piece of plastic costs you $30! We got a 62.5% price hike (inc. stand and disc) but only a 45% gain in performance?? We're not that dumb that in the last four years hardware costs have also gotten cheaper. This is definitely not worth it at all.
I might consider it for $700 if it had the drive. I don't care that much about the stand. I probably wouldn't have bought it at that price, because I don't think I need the improvement. But I would at least think about it. But without the drive, there's no chance I spend that much.
Normally a Gameranx video like this would be titled "10 BIGGEST Changes"..... there's not even enough changes to make a top 10 video on it. I don't know what Sony is smoking but I'll have what they're having.
I was so ready to buy a PS5 but I wanted for the Pro to Drop I saw that $700 price and I said forget that and bought the $700 Metaquest 3 instead. I miss the days of the Early Playstation they really broke the mold of what games and consoles could do and be.
The PS5 pro situation is really a matter of buy it or not. Sony most likely likened this strategy with how the portal and the PSVR2 sold, that is if the demand sucks, the supply isn’t that big anyway. People often compare this to how the PS3 sold initially, but you gotta remember, that price was for an audience who was craving for a new generation. The Pro just doesn’t have enough for its price, unlike PS4 Pro which quenched the 4K demand at the time.
The real problem is the slow release cycle for games these days. I don't play on console, so I'm sure there's one or two games I'm not aware of (although I follow gaming pretty close), but more and more time is going by every day between decent game launches. Granted that's subjective...I'm sure there's someone out there who thinks Star Wars Outlaws is the game of the generation and thus counts as a quality release, but imo, even compared to the PS4 era where generational games were coming out on a pretty regular basis, the PS5 seems to be lagging way behind its predecessor.
I wonder if the port for expanding the memory is shaped slightly different so that you have to purchase a special one from Sony and can't just swap out the one you'd use in a regular PS5?
I just ran that through an inflation calculator and $399 in 2016 works out to $523 in 2024 dollars. So, yeah... we're getting squeezed here by Sony. Big time.
@@fourthhorseman4531 I till don't get it, why selling so few by overcharging the consumers while you could selling millions by selling at a more faired price 🤔
PvP needs to be normalized in video games. People complaining about content is an ongoing issue. I think making PvP a priority in video gaming would make a huge difference in how people enjoy games.
I blame Apple for this. As soon as they started selling shit separately that should come in the box and people still bought it. I knew other companies would follow suit

In the end, Sony wil release a modular Playstation where you can easily swap out the "patent gpu, ram, etc" easily by pulling the plates apart and clipping them back together to close the system. Basically a modular console / pc hybrid. Or maybe just full on modular PC.
People should wake up and get a solid PC build for the money, where you can get game keys for less than half the price and free multiplayer. And where you have games.
It should be noted most of the biggest PS exclusives come to PC too at a later date, with better graphics/framerate and superior kb/m. I've been very happy playing Ghost of Tsushima etc on PC! That's in addition to Xbox exclusives, multiplats, and many many times more PC exclusives on Steam etc
I really wanted to get one for my son. But the price and no disc support is a NO for me. I am better off building a PC for him and teach him how to operate a PC.
Yeah, I couldn't have said it better myself. Like why would you buy this. I mean dude, be for real. If developers aren't maxing out the capabilities of the standard ps5, what makes you think they'll do it, anytime soon, on the same but just a little beefier hardware?
I love how they showed 4-5 year old games to showcase their new hardware which goot minimal boosts in visual fidelity, meanwhile you can get an used xbox series S for as low as 200€ and still play current gen games at 1080p comfortably this is just insulting

@bigmiki2620 45% faster rendering is substantial on paper, but in reality it probably won't matter. The irony of using "BIGGEST CHANGES" for a video of one of the smallest mid-generation upgrades ever

The price of the PS4 Pro was 399 in 2016. They literally doubled the price in just 8 years it's ridiculous
I bought mine back in 2018 for 349€ 😂😂😂
I just ran that through an inflation calculator and $399 in 2016 works out to $523 in 2024 dollars. So, yeah... we're getting squeezed here by Sony. Big time.
@@fourthhorseman4531 I till don't get it, why selling so few by overcharging the consumers while you could selling millions by selling at a more faired price 🤔
@@fourthhorseman4531 You should do that for the standard PS5 and Slim.
Price of chips doubled too ask nvidia why 4090 is 2k when 8 years ago 1080ti was 799
PvP needs to be normalized in video games. People complaining about content is an ongoing issue. I think making PvP a priority in video gaming would make a huge difference in how people enjoy games.
I blame Apple for this. As soon as they started selling shit separately that should come in the box and people still bought it. I knew other companies would follow suit
That's not Apple's fault then, is it? It's the morons buying it 😂
My PC has been smiling for some time. Now I can hear it laughing...
Lmao same I only recently upgraded mine too
Same lulz. I bet the gaming industry hates us pc lovers and one day will soon try to F us all over too. Oh wait my bad they are already doing that to us. We basically have no physical media anymore in the pc gaming world lol.
Despite that lame crap though... For now? Still better than consoles in many many many MOST ways.
0:06 Oh yess the good old reminder “ VERTICAL STAND SOLD SEPARATELY” just so we don’t get our hopes up 😂😂😂
$30 for a mass produced piece of plastic
@@SerPodrickthat probably costs them like $3 to manufacture
In the end, Sony wil release a modular Playstation where you can easily swap out the "patent gpu, ram, etc" easily by pulling the plates apart and clipping them back together to close the system.
Basically a modular console / pc hybrid. Or maybe just full on modular PC.
0:55 the main driving factor is profit 😂
People should wake up and get a solid PC build for the money, where you can get game keys for less than half the price and free multiplayer. And where you have games.
It should be noted most of the biggest PS exclusives come to PC too at a later date, with better graphics/framerate and superior kb/m. I've been very happy playing Ghost of Tsushima etc on PC! That's in addition to Xbox exclusives, multiplats, and many many times more PC exclusives on Steam etc
@@H4GRlDYou have never build at least a mid range PC right? Compare to PC built the PS is cheap af… Don’t spread nonsense.

You'd think with the deluge of developer layoffs and studios being shut down, that prices might be more reasonable.
@@greenbow7888 no it is because of that, they don't think there is enough in the gaming market to justify selling at a loss.
I really wanted to get one for my son. But the price and no disc support is a NO for me. I am better off building a PC for him and teach him how to operate a PC.
Diminishing Returns at its finest. Is the slogan that will define this generation of consumers.
Best way to describe it
Yeah, I couldn't have said it better myself. Like why would you buy this. I mean dude, be for real. If developers aren't maxing out the capabilities of the standard ps5, what makes you think they'll do it, anytime soon, on the same but just a little beefier hardware?
Because there is a literal wall called quantum mechanics. Expect CPU to never improve after 2027. There will be literally no more gain to be found.
I love how they showed 4-5 year old games to showcase their new hardware which goot minimal boosts in visual fidelity, meanwhile you can get an used xbox series S for as low as 200€ and still play current gen games at 1080p comfortably
this is just insulting
Not trying to defend them, but stating that another console can get the job done at a drasticly lower resolution doesn't make any sense. I don't know what point your statement is trying to make.
2T is not enough! COD is like 1T now and GTA6 will be 1T too lol
For the added storage, i might get the pro
Nothing is ever enough
@@MrAftermath21 Save the money and just upgrade the SSD inside your PS5...why spend 800 for more memory when you can do the same for a fraction of the cost?

For us Kenyans we were forced to buy the normal Ps5 at 700 dollars already coz of taxes...this pro version will now cost like 1000+ dollars
When I heard the price point I said it can go eff itself. Took me 3 yrs to get a ps5 and it still working just fine.
System, stand, disc drive, and taxes would cost me $882 in my state. Sony can kick rocks.
This would've been the perfect time to announce a remastered Bloodborne and say it takes advantage of the new features.
Here are the prices in Australia (feel free to verify):
PS5 Pro: $1,199
PS5 disc drive: $159
Vertical stand: $49
Total: $1,407
I did a quick search, you can buy a pre built gaming PC with 32GB or ram, 1TB SSD, i5 12400F and an RTX 4060 $1,399...
700$ for a console with no vertical stand and it gets even worse... digital version... Sony's big effort was putting three lines
As a commie shitbag once said.. "You will own nothing and you will like it" Buy the digital, "own" it for a few years, next model comes out and now you can't run that game.
@@Tomekkplk Commie? 😂 The man Klaus Schwab who said it was a capitalist echoing the capitalist ethos. You are utterly insane if you think A SOCIETY WHERE PRIVATE COMPANIES OWN ALL PROPERTY is somehow communism.
They literally sacrificed a disc drive for the spec upgrades otherwise base price would’ve been at least $200 more and you’d still complain😂 they don’t grow tech parts on a farm, the base console was 600, the digital was 500, the pro versions of these have always been at least $100 more, yall are crying over literally nothing. You don’t HAVE to get the pro, the base and digital are still very relevant
@warfare__-oc4vr I hear it has to be bought separately.
Yeah, and the design looks dumb to me. It's like they asked some first year design students to redesign the look of the PS5 but keep it basically the same and this is the design they went with. Then Sony was like "Hmm. They forgot to add in the disk drive on their redesign concepts. You know what? Screw it. We'll just charge people for a disc drive."
Biggest factor definitely is finally killing physical preservation for future sony consoles
Steam already killed it, and everyone in the comments is saying get a pc. No one cares about discs anymore.
Nondisc drive is fucking bull shit considering the target audience
Yeah, I'd be curious to see the amount of people that bought the digital version of the PS5 because no physical option is crazy to me.
Uh, I'm not seeing the correlation between disc driver users and those who want higher framerates without sacrificing fidelity...
@@cenciende9401 both have money to spend 😅

700 USD
Almost 1000 euros for europeans and rest of the worlds
The whole point of consoles is to be accessible and cheap for people. What's the point of buying a console if is gonna cost the same as building a PC.
SONY HAVE LOST THEIR MINDS
Isn't the base ps5 still the same price?
Gamers! Pilgrimage to US to buy new console then send it home to Europe will be cheaper than buying it in place! Thats including shiping and travel... LOL

So let’s say you’re playing since 2020 and you’ll play on ps5 until 2027, this equals $500 which you’ve paid to pay your $80 - $120 game online and most games only function online 😅
