it’s sarcasm bro, no one needs a stupid console at the beach and those that really want to do that aren’t talking about doing it. These are fake boujee products. Nobody that’s actually got money wastes there money on stuff like this, they have like a $3000 custom console or pc, this is just to keep middle income or poor people in the same tax bracket or lower forever.
Due to shortages, I got my PS5 almost 2 years after launch. It's too close to do a minor upgrade. I will probably just wait for the PS6 and have to wait 4 plus years for it to be available. Most of the games I play are just PS4 games anyways.
it's crazy that we live in a time where "uh well on some games you already played there is a little less compromise now" is a selling point for a $800 "pro" version of a console during a time where most big games are trash. The PS5 should have came with whatever the pro version now has. The normalization of greed and ignorance towards customers is disgusting.
its more the people who like to brag about being able to afford things than the people who actually care about value for the price. SONY aimed the PS5 Pro to that 1st group, which are the loudest of the 2. PS6 will be expensive as a result of this, and people will still love it and buy it without question.
It’s not for you, it’s for people who have much excess income, so much that spending 800 for an upgrade is worth it. If there is no difference, there is no point in crying about price, just don’t buy it.
Jokes aside, this shows that consumer technology is already so good that anything new doesn't improve much upon what we already have. Not just consoles but games (graphics), GPUs, phones, tvs, cars etc. No more big improvements. Technology is stagnating
Consoles are stagnating yes. But PCs are getting better atleast in the GPU realm. CPUs seem to have reached the point where further boosts require a complete architecture overhaul or just pumping more power into it like the alleged washing machine level of power draw for the rtx 5090.
a friend of mine bought the Pro, then went out and got the high refresh rate tv to take advantage of the new higher refresh rate. THEN he picked up an expansion m.2 drive for his PS5 games, and an 8TB external drive for everything else. He's my friend and I love him, but he never goes part of the way - it's all or nothing. Weirdly, I'm not jealous - but i guess i'm happy for him? Two days later and he's still re-downloading his entire PS library to the Pro. I do know that i will never hear the end of it, though, bless his heart.

What do you mean paying for the vertical stand is something that Playstation's been doing forever? The C chassis PS5 was sold with an included stand, which can be used either horizontally or vertically.
The PlayStation 4, 3, and 2 did not include a stand. The PlayStation 1 didn't either but that console couldn't be stood up vertically anyway. He's probably implying the PS5 including it's stand was an exception and not the norm.

They just like bragging. Good for them, but I don't need them to rub it in my face that they're buying it. I spent $1000 on my base PS5 so I might not buy it. The base PS5 still works well. The ray tracing, performance, quality, etc. The PS5 PRO comes with its benefits, but if you already have a base PS5 it's not really worth having considering it's not essential. It is nice to have one though. And with inflation, not everyone can afford it. Hopefully, I can buy it in the future if it's still available.
I have had it since day one. It's just a PS5 that can run games a little better. You don't need it, unless you need to squeak out like thirty extra frames. I can run a lot of games at 120 fps at 4k which is nice, and some can do 60 ray traced. But honestly it's not THAT much better. Side by side you will notice but otherwise you may notice slightly smoother frames. The only reason I bought it is because I had a launch PS5 and the fans are running rough, the disc drive has some issues and I've had memory issues lately, so I needed a new unit soon anyways. Decided I might as well have the best version possible. If you have a PS5 and you like it and aren't needing to upgrade anytime soon, you definitely don't need this. It works well, looks a little better, and I don't regret buying it.
Dude if the difference isn't better sale it and get an old ps5 and go back to 4k at 30 fps or 1080p at 4k, obviously the pro is better, pssr makes every game look better wether it's enhanced or not. Game boost mode makes all ps4 games look better than they ever have which is awaome for games like bloodborne that haven't gotten a pqtch or port, and to be able to play pro 4k at 120 fps vs fidelity 4k @30fps or performance 1080p @60 fps is worth the price difference alone, hell the 2tb ssd and extra 2gb of ddr is worth the price difference,ps5 are still selling for $500-$600.... $100-$200 more for all the extra specs is worth it but either way if you don't think so sale it.
I have both and tbh there is a big difference for some games and a more subtle difference for others. Also we know future games like MH Wilds will be optimised for the pro from launch. It's no different from choosing a graphics card, you don't need the best available but don't pretend that there isn't a difference.
@@obi-wan3916 yeah a difference that is barely noticable lol. Imagine buying a graphics card for 800 dollar that barely improves your current experience. Nobody in his right mind would do that.

I have a ps5 and I built my first gaming pc earlier this year. So I don't need it. I get it. Now I aint gonna lie. The remasters for certain games didnt make much sense to me but playing the last of us remaster on pc with all the bells and whistles with modern light techniques is awesome.
I'm one of those people that would have bought that just because I want the best versions of games available. But not having a disc drive included killed any chances of me spending the money. I'm not supporting disc drives being an add-on.

My take on this is, if you've been waiting to upgrade to a PS5 Pro from a PS4/Pro, then go for it. If you just have a base PS5, keep what you have. If you have a super power PC and PlayStation's games are coming to PC anyway, then this doesn't need to be debated any further.
Or if you already own a PS5 just trade it? I did plus 4 games to bring the Pro down to half price, also bought a Chinese copy of the vertical stand for a fraction of the price of a genuine Sony vertical stand which look identical.
Every time I see new iterations of the latest gen consoles, it makes me so happy that I switched over to PC, more games, free online play, options for both controller or mouse and keyboard and most exclusives eventually make their way over to PC if you have some patience!
Can someone explain to me why, after a year and a half of the original ps5 not being widely available and with a relatively small library of games, anyone would want to spend $800 on a "better" one that should have been what the first one was to begin with?
@@Person-jw7mk Same here. Although I also bought the disk drive as I prefer the ability to get physical games, having been used to digital "licenses" from PC launchers like Steam.
price is absolutely wild but as an owner of one I can say that the decision ultimately boils down to two things. 1. Can you afford it comfortably? 2. Do you have a VRR TV? If you answer no to either of those questions I would not buy one.
In my experience, if you have the Playstaion Portal, it streams near flawlessly. Ive swapped Portal Play between both consoles, with same game, and find the results to be very noticeable.
Pretty sure there are a lot more questions than that which could be said no to lol, like do you have a PC, would you not be better off spending a little more for a gaming PC, do you game a lot, do you like wasting money etc etc
I have stable income and can afford one, and also have a c4 TV, do I want one? No coz I don't see much improvements, and especially since I'm a physical gamer having to spend even more on this pile of shit just so I can play my games that i spent thousands on already with the amount of games I own, makes the decision even more easier. Plus not every game will have pro enhanced so your really gambling here on the "improvements"
The fact you bought it with your own money makes it a more valid review. I was about to say more but my sparkly PC master race hair blowing in the wind got in the way.
Heard a lot of "slight", "a little", and "didn't really notice" in this video. So the biggest takeaway I got from this all in all, it's a waste of money. Got it. If you need an expensive TV to take advantage of refresh rates, those TVs run about 2 to 4 grand at Best Buy. My advice? For that much money, just go to Microcenter and buy the parts for a computer. For the same price of an expensive TV plus the PS5 Pro, you can get a gaming PC that will play games a hundred times, no, a THOUSAND times better than what you would get on the PS5 Pro. Visual fidelity is godlike and VERY noticeable. Just hook up a controller if you're not the mouse and keyboard type, get a Steam account and you're good to go. I paid over 4 grand for my PC, have RDR 2 and Elden Ring on the PS5 and the PC, the differences are NIGHT and DAY! I'm playing at a constant 120hz on max settings and haven't gotten a hiccup since.
All of modern consoles not just Sony. It started with Microsoft with the Xbox 360 and it was all downhill from there, albeit MUCH slower. By the time the PS4 and Xbox One were announced WITHOUT backward compatibility the writing was on the wall.
@khrashingphantom9632 atleast xbox back peddled, looks like Sony is gonna continue ripping off their loyal fans base, i feel sorry for anyone who is in that whole of being loyal to a multimillionaire company
@ Multibillion dollar company. I was never one for brand loyalty however why I always enjoyed Sony consoles was the simple fact they operated on the principle of “and” with each iteration in the earlier days. The PS1 (a lot of people don’t remember this) was one of the first affordable home media players that incorporated Dolby Digital surround sound AND it played games and music alike (hell some of the games capitalized on the surround sound). The PS2 did EVERYTHING the PS1 did AND was the first console (affordable) to have digital optical output capability, internal hard drive capability (albeit rudimentary), along with online connectivity play (very rudimentary. Lol), acted as an immediately useable DVD player (affordable) AND was also a kick ass gaming console! (Hints why it sold so many) Not to mention it was 100% backwards compatible so it played PS1 games with ease (controls and all which got upgrade to include DualShock capabilities at launch). The PS3 (the BEST console of all) did everything the PS2 and PS1 did AND so much more! So you could imagine with a legacy like that my MASSIVE disappointment when the PS4 was announced and not only didn’t include backwards compatibility it didn’t even have all the features it’s predecessor had and cost more! So they asked me to pay MORE for LESS. And here we are today and I say GET F****! Unless Sony figured out how reclaim some of that long lost respect I’ll just stick to their last good project. Additionally I truly believe if they ever chose to re-release the “fat” PS3 with all the backwards compatibility built into it and original features it would outsell the PS5 pro even if it were the close to the same price.
It would be pretty reasonable for people like me who never own a PS5 before. If I would purchase a console, I would start at pro variant. It's a bit of a waste to upgrade from base or slim but it depends on what you need. Someone on other video's comment say that he upgraded from base to slim and now saving up money for the pro. Imo, if you need to save up for just a different kind of the same stuff. I don't think you should make that purchase in the first place. Idk what your salary is at but logically. It's a bit risky since this is just a luxury not a necessity. If you're A) Financially comfortable B) Have a device that can support the quality aka 4K TV/monitor C) First time purchasing PS5 Then yea, go ahead. Otherwise, it'd be better to stick with the other variant. I myself thinking of buying the pro but since I don't have a 4K TV let alone a 1440p. I don't think it's time for me yet. This is just my opinion. Your money your choice, I ain't forcing whoever reading this to agree with my opinion.
I own a 4K Sony TV and have never owned a PlayStation before. Should I go for the PS5 or the PS5 Pro? I'm particularly interested in playing God of War: Ragnarok and Wukong.

I’m the target market for the PS5 Pro - an enthusiast with deeper pockets than some of the younger gamers. And yet I probably won’t be getting it because of the missing disk drive. It’s bad enough that it’s an optional extra, but it’s also out of stock everywhere in the UK. Like a lot of older gamers, I prefer owning physical media and have built up a large collection since the PS4 generation.
Don’t worry. It won’t be long before your TOLD disk drives are “obsolete” and they just flat out don’t make them anymore. Same goes for any idea of backwards compatibility. Give it enough time with the way thing are going you won’t be able to play ANYTHING without adding your credit card to your account for a monthly subscription to play the console at all, let alone buy games. 🫥
@@khrashingphantom9632 Yep. At that point I will finally get around to my backlog. I still have PS2 games in the shrink wrap. Also, Indie DRM free PC games will reign supreme.

the lighter below the PS5 pro shot on the beach has me dead, somebody at gameranx is a stoner & they just had to toss the lighter on the rock to say "yeah, we smoked here" LOL
Without the drive and stand, I think the pro is worth about $550. I am not thoughtlessly throwing a number out. The PS4 was $399 on launch, and the pro costed the same at $399 when it launched. I understand that times are different, and that advancements in tech cost money, but the PS5 launched at $499, and that version included a stand and a disc drive. So we are sscrificing some hardware as well. $820 with a stand and a disc drive is $320 extra vs the launch PS5, roughly a 65% increase overall. That's an eyewatering increase. (or a 40% increase if you don't add those two items) Looking at the tests, it's hard to really justify spending over $300 more for what is being proposed here.
This is exactly how my brain thought about this generation too… I got an Xbox one at launch cos I was coming from the 360, but when the ps4 pro launched I jumped onto it. Then I got a series s to hold me over until ps5s became cheaper on my country, and now that I’m genuinely considering getting a ps5 this Christmas I just do not see the benefit of getting the pro considering the spec vs price differential. Consumers are growing wise to the spec vs price argument in the era of pc gaming resurgence we’re currently in - it just doesn’t make sense anymore to charge arbitrarily more for better specs when we generally understand how much those upgrades should cost
It's called the 'Concord' tax. Sony just can't lose 400 million dollars and not find a way to recoup their losses. Charging $850 for a $550 console is one of those ways.
@@mrfoofoo69I bought consoles as a "much cheaper" alternative to the PC. I usually own both. Most of us understood that you could buy a laptop or PC at high prices to have amazing graphics, gameplay, and use for school and business. On the flip side, we also understood that buying a console would be a "much cheaper" alternative with good enough graphics, maybe even bad graphics, but excellent playability and quick loading times and "zero lag". Cheap consoles, cheap game, fast loading and no lag. GameCube is still my favorite. Good enough graphics and fast play. I'm focused on the character and actions NOT the details of a leaf in a tree. The gameplay is enough to get me immersed in the fun. The details in the leaf or the landscape are bonuses but not required for me to be immersed completely. Even when there are noticeable polygons or graphical errors. In gameplay your eyes and brain watch teg character and are focused on the actions. So, the details in a leaf or gravel don't really bring me to that immersed place. It's all good though. That's what the PC was for....for those that love more realism. Sadly. Gaming should be about more than just 4k or 8k or hyperrealism. Nintendo attracting me because at least they are trying to do more than realism they are more creative with the artwork, cartoons, and content. Computers were supposed to free the artist. Gaming could be anything, from the real to the abstract. Luckily, 3rd party games and apps show a range of abstract options. Let's see how all this plays out. I'm out until I can afford consoles again. I cannot believe I'm in an era where I can't afford a console?
That's not how it works though. AMD and Nvidia have drastically increased their GPU prices in the last 4 years while providing very minor improvements to performance. An equivalent GPU to the one in the PS5 Pro would set you back $500 on it's own. The PS5 Pro is undeniably expensive for a console but it's unfortunately just a reflection of the GPU market in 2024.

The real difference is game exclusivity. I know several people who say they’ll buy a PlayStation for the sole purpose of playing GTA VI when it releases. A lot of people did that with the PS4 when RDR2 released too.
@@joelmulder This is a good point. But in reality most people buying consoles don't even care that much about exclusives or worse timed exclusives. Thats mostly just a thing for people on social media or people with fomo.

The only way I would buy the PS5 Pro is if I sold my PS5 Slim, but I have no desire to do so. Over $800 is ridiculous. After selling my original Series X, I bought the Special Edition Series X, and personally, that is worth it as an Xbox fan. But over 800 for a limited selection of PS5 games when I'm primarily an Xbox player is why I'm content waiting until the PS6. Normally, I do buy mid gen refresh consoles such as the PS4 Pro or special editions but not this time. Happy gaming for those that do choose to do so 💯😎
I am the person that didn't have a PS5. I went with Xbox Series X at first for a few reasons I won't get into. While this is expensive, I'm willing to go for it to get going with PS5 finally. Also, it's not unreasonable to think that this may end up being the most powerful home console that still supports optical media, so it may well end up being a useful one to keep plugged in when it becomes a legacy device.
My og Ps5 from day one has thousands of AFK hours on it. I was glad for this Pro upgrade and it's definitely running psvr2 much smoother. It's over $1000 here in Canada but if money isn't an issue this thing is awesome and I'm so glad I got it.

it's crazy that we live in a time where "uh well on some games you already played there is a little less compromise now" is a selling point for a $800 "pro" version of a console during a time where most big games are trash.

CPUs seem to have reached the point where further boosts require a complete architecture overhaul or just pumping more power into it like the alleged washing machine level of power draw for the rtx 5090.
a friend of mine bought the Pro, then went out and got the high refresh rate tv to take advantage of the new higher refresh rate. price is absolutely wild but as an owner of one I can say that the decision ultimately boils down to two things. 1. Can you afford it comfortably? 2. Do you have a VRR TV? If you answer no to either of those questions I would not buy one.
Did you have a ps5 already?
In my experience, if you have the Playstaion Portal, it streams near flawlessly. Ive swapped Portal Play between both consoles, with same game, and find the results to be very noticeable.
Pretty sure there are a lot more questions than that which could be said no to lol, like do you have a PC, would you not be better off spending a little more for a gaming PC, do you game a lot, do you like wasting money etc etc
He's right VRR 120hz TV makes the PS5 Pro pop. PSSR is legit; GoW: Ragnarok looks great.

I was about to say more but my sparkly PC master race hair blowing in the wind got in the way.
Im waiting for a garage sale on this one.

“Power cord sold separately.” ~ Sony probably soon
All parts sold separately.
@ Fun not included.
00:32 That lighter just had to be there huh 😂
It would be pretty reasonable for people like me who never own a PS5 before. If I would purchase a console, I would start at pro variant. It's a bit of a waste to upgrade from base or slim but it depends on what you need.
Someone on other video's comment say that he upgraded from base to slim and now saving up money for the pro. Imo, if you need to save up for just a different kind of the same stuff. I don't think you should make that purchase in the first place. Idk what your salary is at but logically. It's a bit risky since this is just a luxury not a necessity.
If you're
A) Financially comfortable
B) Have a device that can support the quality aka 4K TV/monitor
C) First time purchasing PS5
Then yea, go ahead.

PS5 Pro if you care about graphic and high fps. Pair with OLED 4K 120FPS TV to experience the 'PRO' features.
PS5 if you want to play the games and are okay with 30 to 60 fps at 4K.
PS5 slim for that a little bit of extra storage with probably the same price as the base variant.
Disclaimer:
- Not every game supports 120fps. At least, not yet.
- Only PS5 Pro GPU supports PSSR. PSSR is similar to DLSS and FSR.

And if u buy the disc drive it'll cost u 1400 AUD what a joke of a console
@@cenciende9401 if you take in consideration that there is no disk drive, no stand, you are locked in the PS store which has rarely any good discounts or offers even after years that a game has been released, you need to have PS+ to play online, and you need a tv/monitor that has VRR and 120 Hz to make good use of the PS5 Pro, I think you break even with a decent gaming PC

I ended up making the plunge and getting a high end PC. Yes, it was more expensive, but man what an upgrade over the PS5 and XSX I ended up selling. And knowing I can upgrade the parts anytime is such a nice change of pace. It took me a year to get my hands on a PS5 and the XSX wasn’t much better.
PC master race!! Hahahaha no but besides the jokes, I really believe if you can afford it and put in the effort to research and pick your parts properly, putting your own PC together is the way to go
@ 100%. I was against buying a pc for a long time but ended up going all in. Went with a 4080 super and a 7800x3d. It’s been amazing so far.
I also went to a gaming PC. I didn't build it, although I did build my last one. I went with an R16 Aurora with a 4080 Super. Hopefully the new Nvidia GPU's will be compatible with it if I do decide to upgrade. Otherwise I'll just build my next one in a couple years. Gaming has been so much better, aside from a couple Unreal 5 games. I still have my PS5 though, but I mostly play on the PlayStation Portal now while I am in bed, so I'll keep it around, but I can see why others would sell it off.
what game you played?
PC gaming is the best, except you have to wait 2 years minimum for GTA 6. If you don't care about GTA, you'll be fine.
I was waiting for the PS5 Pro to drop the Rejoin the Playstation Family (last one was a PS2) saw that price tag and limited turned right around and bought myself a VR Headset and I'm loving the experiences I'm having with it!!!
@@khrashingphantom9632 you’re probably right sadly, I think it’s days are numbered. “You will own nothing and be happy”
I like collecting stuff. I've never own any console before so I've got no disc game. If my budget allows, PS5 Pro would be my first console but the separate disc drive is... Sigh
I hope disks for games don't go away... We will truly own nothing, the future is not looking bright for gamers
the lighter below the PS5 pro shot on the beach has me dead, somebody at gameranx is a stoner & they just had to toss the lighter on the rock to say "yeah, we smoked here" LOL
(or a 40% increase if you don't add those two items)
Looking at the tests, it's hard to really justify spending over $300 more for what is being proposed here.
Interesting. Don't know the Concord tax.@@ratedRblazin
My PS5 Pro is jealous of your beach date. I had to buy it a disc drive just to make up for it.
Oh wow, I'll be passing on that. The fact that it isn't backwards compatible for PS3, PS2, and PS1 game's is a major failure.
Does it even play PS4 games?! Lol. You know what plays PS3, PS2, and PS1 games
A PS3! Lol.
PS3>PS5 “Pro” lol
That’s why I kept my fat PS3.
@ I see you’re a person of culture. Enjoy the bounty of that great system’s ability. Plays games for itself and the generations before it seamlessly and MORE! STILL Sony’s masterpiece.
But it is backwards compatible. You just have to rebuy every single game digitally from Sony again!
@ If you have to rebuy the game for it to be “backward compatible” kinda defeats the purpose. Lol
Nowadays, consoles are no longer the cheap gaming option. The only reason that speaks for consoles is the ease of use. However, PC gaming is no longer the witchcraft it once was. 😋
The real difference is game exclusivity.
I know several people who say they’ll buy a PlayStation for the sole purpose of playing GTA VI when it releases. A lot of people did that with the PS4 when RDR2 released too.
@@joelmulder
@@joelmulder This is a good point. But in reality most people buying consoles don't even care that much about exclusives or worse timed exclusives. Thats mostly just a thing for people on social media or people with fomo.
@@joelmulderGame exclusivity is anti-consumer. It's a toxic business practice that not only limits sales, but accessibility for those games that should be available on all platforms. Eg, Halo on PS, God of War on Xbox, Nintendo titles on PS/Xbox, and Xbox/PS titles on Nintendo.
Games being exclusive is a terrible business practice that doesn't benefit consumers.
@ I couldn’t agree more.
This is wild $700 for a console! Save about $200-$300 more and you will have a very decent gaming PC and all the benefits of actually having a PC. These "new" consoles are actually running on old PC tech design for the console of course.
