That part about upgrading your stuff with the magnifying glass blew my mind. Also: You don't need to ship the seeds to get higher level seeds in the general store. You can ship just a single crop that is a higher level and literally, the moment it sells, the general store's corresponding seed for that crop will be available at the higher level.
I have like 600 hours logged to RF4 over all three copies I have (Special included), and I'm still learning things about farming stats. Loving this video. Looks like I'm gonna redo all of my farms now. 🤣
Still playing since launch and yeah I haven't bothered to really understand farming / soil mechanics at all. Reallllly enlightening video that helps a lot, thanks!
You've been a busy beaver with this lately Josh. Good Job. Would have preferred a shout-out though, since I spent an hour sharing notes with you the other day. Using Greenifier + and an Iron Sickle for Turnip Seeds doesn't actually take that long, and is a great play early game to get easy access to level 10 items quickly. You just need to unlock Corn so you can make Greenifier +. About Minimizer. To be fair, nothing will turn giant in one day, as there is an intermediary stage you can harvest during to prevent them from becoming giant, so their inclusion has always been somewhat memetic. I can understand deciding to leave Giant Crystals to a second video, since their inclusion in RF5 basically eschews the usefulness of micromanaging much of this in the first place. I can't stress enough that you should never put Withered Grass in the Fertilizer Bin. Withered Grass is too valuable to craft various nutrients, which you will have to do manually for the first 70% of the game. Crops that wilt completely will yield a Withered Grass. Spinach is a great way to utilize this early game to stock up on Withered Grass by leaving it to die on a Farm Dragon.
I've been waiting for a video like this since the game came out! Thank you so much, Josh! Great tutorial. Had no idea you could add a magnifying glass to armor!
Magnifying glass plus Mugiwara hat, Fucking genius. Btw I finally got the game, despite all my complains this is still rune factory, thanks Josh is pretty fun but I'm going slowly.
7:09 Really? I thought because it says “to” in the description, “from spring to summer”, it suggests the cucumber grows well in autumn as well. If I’m not mistaken, some of the seed descriptions say “Spring and Summer” instead, which suggests to me it grows at an average rate in autumn. Personally, I’m a stickler for grammar because of my need for clarity. You might be right though, or maybe I’m right; I’ll definitely have to look into this to be absolutely sure. That aside, thank you so much for uploading this video! I’m currently on the hunt for tips on how to effectively improve my field’s overall soil stats, (and ultimately max out my crop’s stats.) Figured I may as well start watching this vid and make sure I understand the basics. PS: Upgrading an armor piece with the magnifying glass is BRILLIANT. I wish I thought of it sooner! THANK YOU!
What does the Number say? Since that would be the yield. I assume the HP value is related as well. In RF4 I found my trees would wilt sometimes and only gigantizer would fix it, nothing else. That might be worth a shot.
@@flameshana9 Thanks! I'll try gigantizer on them! Here are the specifics on one orange tree: Growth rate: 100%, HP: 111 No.:- , Overall soil Lv.: 5.93 , Speed Lv: 1.95 , Growth speed: 1.4x , Quality Lv: 1.78 , Quality+: - , Size Lv: 1.70 , Size+: - , No. Lv: 1.95 , Number+: - , Health: 255 , Dmg Resist: 16. I never had this problem in RF4, so I was very intrigued when all my trees stopped giving me fruits.
I thought to raise the hp with corn and 4 leaf clovers you plant them, and hoe them without harvesting.. does that work too? Is it just less effective because you only need 1 for the 4 tile square?
Thanks your videos have been very helpful. I knew a little bit about the stats cause of typhoons but a lot of them were a mystery. Great video looking forward to the next.
It is call field degradation. If you keep planting crops on a plot over and over and over again. There is a chance for getting lower level, fewer harvest, and slew of other issues. You have to keep switching up the plots. I don’t know how long it takes for the soil to reset. But I usually just farm half a field at once, and leave the other. Then switch when I notice crops starts to degrade. This is especially problematic with repeatable crops like pineapple, strawberry and the like. But I have never seen it drop more than a single level. So if you have lvl10 seeds. It should be fine.
Brilliant video...am playing RF4 and just the same. Why on earth did they think blue on a purple background worked visually?? Thank you for this really clear explaination.
Hey Josh, both my Twitter and Instagram aren't working, but I wanted to let you know....your advice worked! I have RF5 currently downloading. Thanks so much! 💜 And thank you to the lovely person who donated the game!
Can you elaborate on Level Modifiers, please? Do they still apply in RF5? Thank you for clarifying that overall level only impacts soil health and damage resist! Before your video, I thought overall level impacted all soil stats somehow. Thanks!
I never understood why some of the crops I'm trying to level up goes a level down instead even if I give the plots greenifier+. It's especially annoying when the crops take so long to mature and still ends up going a level down
I have been trying to get some turnips to level 10 after I was able to get some flowers to level 10 using the same sickle. I have a legendary sickle and it gave me level 10 flower seeds but refuses for the turnips. What do I do?
I have a few questions about growth speed in this game in relation to rf4. I know that there is a multiplier for correct season crops of 1.5x growth speed. Is this value additive or multiplicative? And does the speed level mean that that is the new base speed at 1.0x growth speed? Just trying to understand how the two tie in. Would be awesome if that was how it worked for some super speedy crops.
I have played for three weeks or so and the tree seeds i get from the spots die even if I water them. Any tipps? They need so much time and I need their crops for quests :( About to drop the game...
Harvest Days My Dream Farm. Has now been released on steam two days ago i Tought you might had covered it. But si ce you havent i tip you because i think maby you mentioned it in one of your videos?
Question I would like to have seen answered here. How much does the fertilizer bin restore to the soil? In my early game I noticed that even though I had more fertilizer than crops planted, only a certain amount of them wilted. This begs the question, "Is there a limit to what the fertilizer bin can do per day? For reference, I was monoculture cropping on a brand new farm dragon, so soil stats should have been the same unless there's RNG involved.
To my knowledge, it should have been even, but the best way to do mono culture is to only use a third of the field at a time, that way the remaining two thirds have enough time to recover.
@@aynonymos Interesting. I've been doing some tests since then, and I believe I misspoke earlier. When I said, "wilted," I actually just meant, "turned brown." For the record, nothing actually happens unless you leave the crops alone in that condition, right? Side note: with a fertilizer bin I've only had to wait two days for my soil's grow speed to recover after a harvest. No net HP loss (on simple crops so far) No thirding required. It's only 5k at Palmo's.
@@bobjob2514 huh? Must be a habit I picked up in RF4 crop rotation was pretty important in that one, though my thirding was based on how monsters interact with the fields.
@@bobjob2514 also crops turn brown if you fail to water them, or if they wilt, so I usually water them to check which one it is before deciding if I should empty the field.
@@aynonymos It's pretty weird, though. Any clue why some of them turn brown even after being watered the day prior? I'm certain I haven't missed a spot when it happened.
So, I tried your suggestion of using the magnifying glass to upgrade a piece of armor. It did nothing! I believe that the tools you have at the gold level - the rainbow watering can etc - are automatically giving you the crop read. I was one level under the gold tool level when I watched this and upgraded a white bow and my lion waterpot. Neither helped to "see" what the magnifying glass sees. However, when I forged the next level tools, I noticed that when I had the tool out, I could see the stats on the crops/fields. When I put it away, that information disappeared. I just wanted you to know so that you could update. Maybe the Japanese version allows the upgrades on armor, but the American version does not.
I wish overall level were by the field instead of 2*2. I'll plant my field with all the same crop to be sure the overall level is the same, and it also prevents me from increasing the field on the dragons because they'll start with nothing.(and it would me the field a bit too big)
You should never use withered grass for your fields or fertilizer except it's an emergency. It's used for high level chemistry crafts Not Rot and Greenifier\+, and unlike the other flowers and grasses you can't ever buy it so it is very limited.
It's not really a problem. You can make your own withered grass by planting spinach and don't water it and just wait a few days until it withers. A fully planted ice dragon yields me over 200 withered grass after 3 or 4 days which I can use for tending all of my other fields.
In RF4 I never fully understand the soil stats. I play RF5 on Switchlite and hard to see the tiny text. With Typhoons and Blizzards I use Gaia crystals and wettable powder parts of my dragon farms still get wrecked. The Fire Dragon fields suffered less damage. I've noticed with fruit trees once fully grown intially gave me few fruit there's quest in order to unlock apples and oranges I need to harvest a 50. Why is it I don't get full harvest? I'm doing the giant crop and flowers quests to unlock new seeds. I may need to rewatch again.
The amount of Health and Resistance given to your field from Gaia Crystals is controlled by the Overall level of the field, so with a low level it won't do that much and your field will get wrecked. I imagine he'll tackle this is the second part of his video. Fruit trees randomly give you around 1-4 fruit a day, so it'll take a while to get to 50 with only one. No real rush though, as those requests don't lock any other requests and only give you access to the respective tree's seeds, which you already have anyway.
@@bluedart Oh this explains when I fed Gaia crystals before Typhoon hit it didn't make much difference. I managed to complete all fruit trees quests eventually. First few seeds were from the locations shown in Josh's other videos. Unfortunately, when first typhoon hit one of the apples trees was blown away. With RNG I kept getting Twinkle tree seeds.
