I think it's easily one of the best monsters to bring as a battle companion. You can find one in the Yumina ice area (on the frozen river part I think). I don't know its liked item, but I managed to tame it by first "catching" it with the Seed ability, letting it fight for me until it died and then revived, and then gave it a recovery potion (this method has gotten me a couple monsters actually! It seems to work pretty well if you don't know or don't have a monster's preferred gift).
My main monster in RF4 was just a simple hornet that I got at the beginning of the game. Named him Monty. He was fast, did range damage, and could do seal damage. I trained that dude up to be the most overpowered thing in that entire game. He'd be taking down bosses and giving them every status ailment like it was nothing. I am so looking forward to this game, so hyped I suppose one advantage to being legally blind is that, while I have enough eyesight to game, I'm really not picky about graphics at all unless they're just plain ... ugly. While I've heard this game looks a bit basic/outdated in some ways, it still looks great to me and I can't wait to play it! Also, I really can't tell when the framerate stutters unless it starts getting really laggy, so I'm not too bothered about that either! I'm just so glad the Switch exists so I could finally play RF4, (I can't play DS because it's too small), and so RF5 could finally be created/released! Great job Marvelous!
Wow that’s so cool and handy! It’s awesome that they ported RF4 to the switch for sure. I hope there are more games that are accessible for you besides the ones on the switch. I honestly don’t care as much for the background texture and details like that because I’m so focused on the story, farming, combat, and most of all the characters. I’m sooo ready for next week!
@@tomomishore5738 Thanks! Yeah, I play Xbox One, PS4, and PC as well. However, many of my favorite games are on the Switch. Also, while every console has a magnification feature now, I've found the switch's the most efficient. I just wish they'd add a screen reader for console menues as Sony and Microsoft have. I'd love to see a Rune Factory or similar game someday that's fully-voiced in all bits of dialog, and even the menus. That would be awesome!

I just love these farming type games and have played and watched so many. It's exciting to see all the new features and variety or farm games grow.
This is my first game for rune factory so this is so helpful! Thank you so much for all the content you’ve made with information about this game! Hopefully I can be less of a novice now!
I am so glad I tried rune factory 4. I started gaming after covid. Before I only played mario and pac man. Now I have put 350 hours into rune factory 4 ! I will be starting a new game + for rune factory 4 if and when I get bored of rune factory 5. I had to google / reddit so many game mechanics. But I actually found it very rewarding. I really hope I like this game as much as the last
I've played RF4 and RF5 and this video is the first time I've learned that the monsters can harvest crops on their own. I'm always rushing around to finish harvesting during the two hours in the morning during pick up. Knowing this before would have saved me a lot of time
You were on point with this one Josh. Maybe it's because you exorcized your tooth demons. Queen's Jaw is a 1/8 chance, and Gold Wolves do give an item-Gold Wolf Fangs 1/4 of the time. Clutch correction with the Woolies and Fleeceys. Their FP is really annoying to raise early game on account of Shears being nearly 2k. Those [Hass Leaves] sell for 2.5k at level 10 by the way. OP new monster since it's a 100% item. This game only lets you try to tame each monster up to 10 times, then it'll always fail. Probably worth mentioning. I know a lot of people kept trying and got fairly upset when they first played. So I never hear anyone talk about this, but monsters in this game have something akin to EVs from Pokémon. You can buff up their HP, STR, VIT, or INT by beating certain wild monsters with them in your party. I'm sorry, but why? I did this once, and it was a total waste of time. There's also a mechanic where you can give your monsters one item a day and have it permanently affect things like its elemental (or physical) resistances-even allowing you to make them absorb literally all types of attacks. You can even make them inflict status conditions and absorb HP while attacking. I did this with a Kyuubi once. Trust me, it's a waste of time. Especially since the bugger just spams fireball. Allegedly, hitting a monster with a love-element weapon 4 times makes it easier to tame as well. However, in my last playthroughs of RF4/5 I didn't brush anything, and it didn't take me longer to tame the 20 something monsters I wanted-and I only used Turnip Seeds. I think brushing might be placebo. Paralyzing them helps you keep up with them though, since they can't run very quickly. Why is a single aspect of this game so deep? Is this why I love these games?
Hey, friend! I'm fairly new to Rune Factory (only played 4 before this and was kinda on the younger side and less invested than I am now when I played so I didn't pick up much). I have a question about something in your comment. With the "you can only tame each monster 10 times" does that mean 10 times over the course of the whole game even if you release some of the others or is that a "you can only tame 10 of each monster at a time" thing?
@@astridcreates1843 You can only *try* to tame any single spawned-in instance of a particular monster 10 times. Of course, you can simply try another one after that. They just go straight to "skull" when you give them an item after 10 tries. Didn't mean to scare you with an ambiguous sentence.
Thank you for pretty much pioneering this game for us. I love the RF series, but I’m so clueless at playing fighting/ adventure type games like this. My usual games consist of lots of HM games, so thank you!
I was gonna say "Oh, they added Fur to Wooly's loved items? Neat." because I learned the hard way that Woolys only loved Shears, which meant it was way easier to just spam the medicine and antidote herbs you find littered around the map in RF4.
This video is very useful, thank you. Now I know which monsters are important to befriend. The spiders look terrifying, but I'll have to put that aside and still get some for the items.
The download for my pre-order of Rune Factory 5 finished today but obviously can't play it until the release date which right now is next Tuesday. So excited for this game and for the possible future of the Rune Factory series.
OMG those penguins are CUTE! And that pink frog holding a leaf is cute too! On the other hand, those huge spiders creep me out lmao! I love the monster designs overall.
I started RF5 recently and your videos are helping me a lot 🤣 I had so many questions about taming monsters, some things are pretty confusing and the game doesn't explain much... Thank you for this!!
Thank you for the video! Didnt know we gonna have mult dragons so that makes it much easier on choosing the ones to tame. Also the wooly before Kelve Lava Caves, by the first mini pond before entering the lava area, when tappin the zL button I got some Clippers. Just in case anyone didn't have (like me) XD
I can't wait to catch em all. I will say how gravely I am reminded of one of my few annoyances. x.x The early part once you first get a monster... damn things won't stay still! Makes daily brushings rather tedious.
They can produce gold fangs, but not the one shown in this video, and it's not an every day product. But hey, if you eventually want a source of Lv10 gold wolf fangs, then that can happen.
Oh what a change like in the first game and my favorite Tides Of Destiny you just like brush them into submission lol but now your brushing and bribing them to join you like some shin mi gami heehee but this good to know. Still enjoy the simple way of just brushing them till they love you.
Except for a few recipes that specifically require spider thread or pretty thread, most of the time you'll be able to use the vines that you'll get from the flowers as thread!
Very helpful. Sad to know some monsters are virtually useless outside of making them do farm work or using as battle companions, which all monsters can do. This is useful information.
Sure, but not all monsters are any good at battle. Some have immunities, and weaknesses... or their attacks would heal your enemies instead of damaging them... etc.
On my first speedrun i only had 1 mid lev chicken and some low lev mobs. Now i have 2 "cows", 2 "sheeps", 2 "chicken" for mats and silver wolf, palm cat and an cute fairy for fighting 😊
Monsters you should tame includes the bolt ducks, they can produce the thunderbird feather AND have a decent combat ai. Tricky Muck drops poison powder which is specifically useful for boosting your alchemy. The noticable AI difference between a lot of these animals is that the insect and plant AI is actually really good. They share a similar AI pattern as the Magicians where they hang further back and prefer ranged attacks. Plants have multi-shot, they should not be underestimated early on if you skip -> Nine-Tail AI includes a melle charge ability with 2 unique ranged abilities, arguably the most useful and effective combat pet in the game. You were wrong in THIS particular video about the wolves section 15:30 . . . You have ONE wolf and 3 coyotes. The Hunter gold variation of the silver wolf found in the Thundering Wastes produces the GOLD fang, same as in Rf4. Wolf AI has elements of hit and run baked in, if you just need a distraction they will do it well.
The moment you build the first monster barn is the moment you can tame the nine tailed fox and pretty much it is the best monster to have if you have it that early as it is always going to make mince meat out of bosses and just about any other monster and or gate minus the blazing gates because fire immune and or absorb
Personal fun fact: the first 2 monsters I tamed, fire slime and goblin archer, were complete accidents. I threw a rock and the slime and a failed potion at the goblin, attempting to kill them
you misunderstand... the exception isn't that you can't get it from fighting them, it's that they don't produce their favorite item in the barn... they produce wool.
Gold wolf has a chance to drop gold wolf tooth, boltbird has a chance of dropping thunderbird feather, fairy has a small chance of dropping fairy elixir. Other than that spot on. Only disagreement is that the wolves arnt useless. They are on of the faster mounts behind the ninetails.
The bit with the woolies wasn’t correct. Each size of wool contains extremely different qualities. For example, the small with give a point of vitality to whatever you add, where the medium doesn’t do that and instead offers increased defense (there’s more to each but I can’t think of every exact spec, just trying to highlight the difference here) I haven’t obtained large wool yet, but I am positive, considering you normally have to raise Woolies to be high friendship to obtain it, I am positive it will have great perks These are NOT a waste of time, as obtaining items in RF5 is a much longer process than in RF4, therefore, it is essential not to snub items, and gather at least a stack of whatever you find, if at all possible. Also, it might not be required, but you those extra, empty slots in the crafting bar? You can add extra items into those, and so long as they have upgrade usage, they’ll add those extra upgrades into the item you’re crafting/forging without increasing the item’s lvl. Meaning you can get 2-4 extra bonuses into an item on top of the 9 upgrades you can add. Also, the items you use in the initial crafting process don’t count in the upgrading, so you can add them again in upgrading without their bonuses being halved. Making items extremely powerful if you play your cards right.
ive found that regardles sof which boss monster, that having one on your team makes the game combat trivial xD i always bring a cerberus and the bear, and i sit back and gg
Thanks for this.... and thanks for the edit. It's good to see someone correct what they are saying in their videos. Also, are you planning on an English language walkthrough from the start of the game? I'd love to see that!
Hey Josh, I love all of your content and it is so helpful. Thank you for all the content regarding all farming games. I didn't see anyone making a video about magic plant sword and shield in RF5. Can you do a video on magic plant sword and shield covering these questions and anything that you found about them: 1. Are the stats of the sword and shield randomize each harvest based on luck or is it based on the plant level to get the best status? 2. What can you do with them other than using them for weapons/shield? For example, can you get something in return if you show these items to someone? 3. Can you upgrade them like other weapons? If yes, what are the best materials to upgrade them.
plant level equals weapon level... so you can't upgrade them at all if you get a level 10 seed, and harvest that. stats are random, based on available weapons and shields in the game... I got a shield with zero stats though, on my first one. probably a bug. they're an easy way to potentially get the best gear in the game, through farming. Otherwise, you can use them as a cheap source of level 10 items to get max level bonus on upgrades. you can upgrade them, if they're not level 10.
Is it true that Green Fairy is not in this RF? Only Red, Amber and Blue are present as great fairies? It feels weird to not have all 4 of them if that is the case.
How have I not even got the brush yet :/ I defo don't have the pace down on this game yet. What things should we prioritise doing? I can't even forge or craft yet but I'm nigh a week in
Awesome stuff. This means I got even more lucky than I thought when I tamed the first boss on my first attempt. I did not brush it a bunch. I haven’t played 4 in a couple years and forgot about that. I also found the fox bell item in a chest on the way to fight the fox the second time. I just lowered its health as low as I thought I could then gave it the fox bell and it worked. Geez I got lucky.😂
I had to reload a couple times, only had three or four bells, but when I reloaded again, the last time, I got it with one bell. Which was sweet, as I could then brush it, and give it a bell, for increased affinity. Too bad it's level 5.
What items do the cluckadoodles like? I’ve been trying everything but get the crossbones with all the items. I’ve also noticed in the English version that brushing only seems to work once? Anybody, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Brushing works just fine in the English version. You only have 10 attempts at taming them as in after the 10th item, everything you give them they will instantly reject. That's when you kill said monster and start over on a new one. I ran into this problem yesterday.
I really want more cluckadoodles and buffamoos for more milk and eggs but for the life of me I can't seem to tame any more! I have 5 buffamoos and 4 cluckadoodles. When I try to tame more they just get skulls after so many presents 💀 is there a cap on how many we can have? I want them specifically honestly 😩 I have 7 woolies and fleecies and it's happening with then now too I had a hard time taming the more monsters I had in rf4 but I still had like 8 of each at least 😭

I'm also legally and partially blind, completely blind in my right eye and about 20 over 100 Vision in my seeing-eye which is my left plus I have mild cerebral palsy which is a muscular condition.
@@jillhuhn1129 Oh! My better eye is my right. I can play the Switch in handheld mode because of it, especially with the zoom feature. If its vision was as crap as the left, which can still see but not nearly as well, I wouldn't be able to at all.
My aunt had CP as well, though on the more severe end. Do you play games at all? If so, do you need/use any adaptive equitment/controllers?
@@seamarie3111 I've been playing video games give or take since I was 5 years old and I am 38 now and I'm very sorry to hear about your aunt I hope it's not severe mine is mild but it affects my gate and how I walk and I've had a lot of accidents because of it. I don't use anything that's adaptive though but I have my TV extremely close to my couch and when my mom comes over she helps me navigate in my games and see things that I can't see and helps me find enemies and locations and stuff we're such a good team! I'm not happy that you're suffering as well but it's great to find a like-minded person ;)
When I initially found your videos I had no idea how helpful it would be! I find myself constantly using your tips and advice! Thank you for all of your help!
@@bluedart thank you so much for helping me to understand! Sorry about that. I get easily confused. I really appreciate you explaining to me!
Thank you for pretty much pioneering this game for us.
I love the RF series, but I’m so clueless at playing fighting/ adventure type games like this. My usual games consist of lots of HM games, so thank you!
When I saw the frogs my heart exploded. 🐸
Thanks for all these tests
I was gonna say "Oh, they added Fur to Wooly's loved items? Neat." because I learned the hard way that Woolys only loved Shears, which meant it was way easier to just spam the medicine and antidote herbs you find littered around the map in RF4.
no, they don't love fur. They just like anything you give it, still only love shears.
Thanks for the video! I'll definitely be coming back to this video once I get the game!
This was really handy, good to know before playing this week.
Thank you for this!!
you can also craft threads(use wool) for strings if you dont like spiders in your farm
Fun video and probably one of the best"monster"tutorial on RUclips so far!! Thanks so much!! Subscribed!
Thank you so much for this video! Getting so excited to play this game!
This is super helpful, thank you!! I’m not sure how the heck people figure this out without watching a video lol
I can't wait to catch em all. I will say how gravely I am reminded of one of my few annoyances. x.x The early part once you first get a monster... damn things won't stay still! Makes daily brushings rather tedious.
I watched all of your RF5 vids
Thanks! I'm so excited!
Thanks! I was looking everywhere for this information.
So sad the golden wolves no longer drop Gold Fangs. So useful for crafting.
who says they don't? The yellow one in this video is not a hunter wolf, it's something different, and new to rf5.
They can produce gold fangs, but not the one shown in this video, and it's not an every day product.
But hey, if you eventually want a source of Lv10 gold wolf fangs, then that can happen.
Ohhh i had no idea tame monsters dropped stuff. Will definitely be going after those monsters now.
I can't wait for the 25th, this game is actually the only reason I brought a switch oled for 😄😄 thank you for your videos very handy guides 😊
The English name for chickens is Cluckadoodle, it always gives me a giggle haha
I pre-order this and can't wait
Thank you so much for sharing this information!! 😄
You're welcome! I hope it helps!
@@JoshGamingGarden Yes!! I just can’t wait for the game to be released!! 😄
@@JoshGamingGarden oh yay for me I will get pink woolly hell yeah Woot Woot 😋🤗🤭😝😜🥳🎇🎉💯💥
Question: can monsters lose friendliness? and is the feed box universally feed all the barns regardless of its location?
Yes, one box feeds all monsters regardless of their location! And no, friendship doesn't go down!
@@JoshGamingGarden thx for the reply.
Thanks again for the informational video!
Thank you for this video. I got bombed with a lot of info at the start and forgot about the monster stuff. Thanks!
Wooly is my first monster that I tamed. It can produce wool ❤❤❤
Yes, and the new pink woolies are so cute!
@@JoshGamingGarden what's the difference between the pink and the white one??
@@dennishasnanzulfialda4943 aren’t pink ones just female Woolies 🤔
There's not much difference really, just pick whichever you think looks the cutest!
Oh what a change like in the first game and my favorite Tides Of Destiny you just like brush them into submission lol but now your brushing and bribing them to join you like some shin mi gami heehee but this good to know. Still enjoy the simple way of just brushing them till they love you.
Thanks for doing that now i know which gives u some useful stuff😊
Is there another option for thread? Bc I cannot with those giant you know whats.
Girl same. I was so thankful for Raven in rf4. She was selling thread one day so i bought a bunch.
Except for a few recipes that specifically require spider thread or pretty thread, most of the time you'll be able to use the vines that you'll get from the flowers as thread!
The monsters in rf5 are so much cuter than 4 🥰
Very helpful.
Plants have multi-shot, they should not be underestimated early on if you skip ->
Nine-Tail AI includes a melle charge ability with 2 unique ranged abilities, arguably the most useful and effective combat pet in the game.
@playwithjosh The chickens are called Cluckadoodle in English,at least the white ones that lay eggs
Is there someone in this game who is like Raven in RF4? Who sells all the monster parts that you have shipped?
Yes, Heinz will be randomly selling items, they change every day but you won't always find monster parts!
@@JoshGamingGarden Thank you!
Personal fun fact: the first 2 monsters I tamed, fire slime and goblin archer, were complete accidents. I threw a rock and the slime and a failed potion at the goblin, attempting to kill them
Great video! It'd be nice to see an updated video with more useful monsters. Are you planning on making any updated videos on his game?
It's nice that a lot of monsters are useful.
As an arachnophobe I already know I won't be keeping any of those spiders as pets XD
Is there an in-game bestiary?
Record of monsters info, location, defeat drops and what items they give when tame?
Sadly,no
That would be nice but there's no bestiary unfortunately.
What about the blue and yellow fairies? Where are they at?
Can you do a tools and upgrades video?
I saw people tame the mimics and it was hilarious
Woolies aren’t a total exception, I had one drop shears after defeating them. Woolies only like their rare drop it seems lol
you misunderstand... the exception isn't that you can't get it from fighting them, it's that they don't produce their favorite item in the barn... they produce wool.
Ahhh I’m so excited for this
A duck that looks like a robin? Looks odd with the duck bill, lol. Cute
Yeah I'm not sure that one's actually a duck, there was a white and a yellow one too but they were out on the fields when I recorded 😅
You can tame them after getting hem into your party, makes it much easier when they are alone and standing still.
Does that work for taming bosses though?
Good video! useful.
The bit with the woolies wasn’t correct.
Each size of wool contains extremely different qualities. For example, the small with give a point of vitality to whatever you add, where the medium doesn’t do that and instead offers increased defense (there’s more to each but I can’t think of every exact spec, just trying to highlight the difference here)
I haven’t obtained large wool yet, but I am positive, considering you normally have to raise Woolies to be high friendship to obtain it, I am positive it will have great perks
These are NOT a waste of time, as obtaining items in RF5 is a much longer process than in RF4, therefore, it is essential not to snub items, and gather at least a stack of whatever you find, if at all possible.
Where is the purple flower monster? I neeeed to have all four colours and I just don't know where the purple one is!
ive found that regardles sof which boss monster, that having one on your team makes the game combat trivial xD i always bring a cerberus and the bear, and i sit back and gg
Thanks for this.... and thanks for the edit. It's good to see someone correct what they are saying in their videos.
Also, are you planning on an English language walkthrough from the start of the game? I'd love to see that!
I have not decided yet whether or not I'll do a whole walkthrough/playthrough, but I'll definitely stream it a lot!
Golden wolves actually give gold fangs once in a while at higher levels of affection.
Does anyone know if all boss monsters are tameable? I really want the basilisk.
Basilisk is, at least.
Hey Josh,
I love all of your content and it is so helpful. Thank you for all the content regarding all farming games. I didn't see anyone making a video about magic plant sword and shield in RF5. Can you do a video on magic plant sword and shield covering these questions and anything that you found about them:
@@gwouru My first shield have no stats too. That's why I am confused.
Thank you for all of your videos, your channel is the best for advice on gaming Josh ! 😇
I was trying to harvest a giant turnip and it disappeared! My monsters harvested it before it could get big!
Is it true that Green Fairy is not in this RF? Only Red, Amber and Blue are present as great fairies? It feels weird to not have all 4 of them if that is the case.
Do giving them food and items rise their stats like in 4?
It does, but it's harder to see their stats and it looks like there's actual stat caps this time.
How have I not even got the brush yet :/ I defo don't have the pace down on this game yet. What things should we prioritise doing? I can't even forge or craft yet but I'm nigh a week in
What kine of food to catch cow and chicken, are you just brush it?
@@gwouru It’ll level up quick and has fantastic stats in a fight. It will quickly outstrip your character for awhile.😁
@@jedichris85 well, I did get it at level 96... so... no it doesn't. In my case anyway.
Where did you find the purple flower?
So sad that the green fairy isn't in RF5 :(( I already have the blue and fire fairy~ Gonna aim for the yellow fairy a couple days later
Have you tamed any of the bosses yet i tamed the Kitsuné boss
Kyubi is so cute! That will be the first monster I tame!
What level I should be at though? I know what item I need to use to tame it. Is there anything else I should bring when I face it?
I think even after beating it once, your level should be high enough! Just bring a brush, and farm the Kyubi bells with your Seed Circle a few times!
I like the faeries. The ones named red blue green and yellow. And ambrosia and thunderbolt. And in rf3 I liked the wolf
I want them specifically honestly 😩 I have 7 woolies and fleecies and it's happening with then now too
I had a hard time taming the more monsters I had in rf4 but I still had like 8 of each at least 😭
After brushing once, the musical notes go away for me. I still manage to catch them
This game looks so damn good! I'm already thinking about what sort of monsters I'll want to have~
Ugh 22nd, plz come faster T_T
how do you get milk from the buffamoos? is there a tool or something?
